BatchGeo is the service I was looking at, but at $99 a month, bit pricey, and the free offering is stunted at 250 entries. But it could be used to produce some snapshot interactive maps with some admin time, just not live to a database

Evening all, there was a similar thread in the How do you do it thread years ago, but doesn't really go far enough, so here is my question. We have a database that contains address data for all the veterinary practices that have our students, I would like to be able to have a google map page on our internal website that will plot these practices on a map and give some metadata, ie which students are at that practice(all in our DB) and hopefully a search function. Basically we have people go out and assess the practice or the student, and then find someone else goes out the next week to a practice 2 miles up the road, so we are trying to increase efficiency, so our people can quickly see what other practices and students are in the area. Is this possible with the API, or is it going to be a b*ll-ache? I have found a commercial website that does this, but it is $99 a month! Any help would be appreciated thanks James

Hi all, Is this available on the standard educational O365 offering yet? I heard rumours it was going to be. I can enable it in my admin console for SfB on O365, but when I try and log in as a user, I get the not enabled in the organisation message Anyone got any news on this or how I enable it for a user? Thanks for all the replies so far, seem I am good with my 2 1GB uplinks on most switches I am looking at having 2 ES-16-XG 16 port 10GB switches as my core and running all the 1GB uplinks into them. So support for 6 dual port LAGS on each switch on the SFP+ ports, gives me enough for 12(or more if an 10/100 POE phone switch, will only need one) switches and still 4 ports of 10GB copper on each for future 10GB servers.

Morning all, Just doing a redesign of our switching and was wondering how many 1GB fibre uplinks people use on a standard 48 port 1GB switch back to the core? Do you do one, or both, or if the switch had 4 SFP, all of them? I tend to use 2, but thought I'd ask the hivemind their opinion if I am overkill with 2 or underkill Thanks James

No I'm not sure This is the same client over and over, I would have thought SP would remember the same port, or does every power cycle cause it to relearn and test? I will check for portfast and see if it is SP. Thanks for the tip!

Afternoon all, When we PXE boot, it takes at least 15 seconds before a lease is given/retrieved and the PXE boot commences. Is there any way to speed this up on Windows server? or am I looking at alternative DHCP sources to knock this time down Thanks James

Thanks for that, it is as I thought! We licence the enterprise desktop pack on our OVS-ES plan, so that gives us SA rights on all owned desktops with an OEM sticker, so all good The only difference will be a new office with around 20 10zig zero clients, that will need VDA. Do you know if VDA is a per user/device or can it be FTE based, as a lot of the OVS-ES licenses? James

Evening all, We are going VDI with Horizon shortly, and just need to check we don't need RDS cals? I was under the impression we won't as we don't have any RDS technologies in use(or do we?), but as usual the internet has 5 different answers for every question! Also as long as we are using our old PC's with an OEM sticker to access the VDesktops, we don't need VDA licences either? Obviously if we swap out PC's for thin devices, we would need a VDA for each one, I think! Good old MS licencing! Thanks James

Morning all, We have just turned on email replying on our OSTicket instance, which works well, but it has the side affect of logging the Out of Office reply if we reply to a ticket and it send them an email, if that makes sense! Is there any way to suppress any OOO messages going to that address? by Exchange 2016 PS or can I set a rule in OWA to delete them(not sure on this, as i am not sure the rules will still run if the mailbox is never logged into again). Any insight or hints appreciated! Thanks James

If you trace one of those emails, it should show you if it has been put in the high risk pool. 200 could be enough to tip you over the threshold, but of course they won't tell you what the threshold is, as that would undermine the system!

it should say if they are being sent out with the high risk servers, if it doesn't then I would raise a ticket. Thanks James

Looks like your emails are going through the High-risk delivery pool, are you sending any bulk emails out, or a spamming linux webserver? You can check with message trace in the Exchange control panel to see what is being sent out.

Is that directed at me for SendGrid or for the OP If it's me, then just the base plan, £10 a month. 40,000 mails a month is plenty! Also should mention we have done the outgoing connector split hack on an On-Prem server, not sure if its possible on full O365

O365 blocks our bulk emails as well, and won't tell us why, as it is against their rules for combating spam to let people know how to beat the filters(makes sense really, but not overally helpful!) We now use SendGrid for all bulk emails, and have a complicated rule to use a different outgoing connector for just our marketing/bulk email addresses. This isn't a feature of Exchange, to have separate connectors for different email addresses, but with a bit of Google Fu, got it to work. Now all normal email passes through O365 and all other bulk stuff through SendGrid.

@AlanD it is also Windows 10 Home, which is not domain joinable if I remember rightly, so that might be a killer straight off the bat

Our original entombed dell optiplex in the ceiling was running Xibo, and had no problems with it. We only use the Planet eStream system now as it comes with a signage platform built in, and ties it in nicely with everything else(being able to just embed photo sets or videos, tweets, RSS feeds etc straight in)

We use generic but known brand 50" LCD TV's(currently Toshiba non-smart) with a raspberry pi "glued" to the rear. Costs around £500 for the lot(probably much cheaper now, as prices come down for the TV's, and a LOT cheaper if you don't need 50"). I would think LibreOffice can show PP presentations with a boot into kiosk mode on Raspbian. We just have ours boot to a Chromium kiosk and then show html based slide shows served from Planet eStream, our chosen media platform. Our first one of these has been up on the wall for nearly 6 years, and originally had a Dell Optiplex in the ceiling running it and then we moved to pi's a few years ago(and yes the Dell is still entombed in the ceiling, was a bother to get it down, so I made the decision to leave it up there!). This one is a LG Plasma(consumer grade) and apart from some burn in(which can't be seen as I switched to a black theme!) It is still working like a champ, showing our students and staff the room allocations in reception, all hands off using RSS from our MIS to update a dynamic eStream signage player. Turn it on and the pi boots up as it is onboard USB powered, turn the TV off, pi goes off too A damn site cheaper than "dedicated" signage, we could go through a skip full of these before paying for one of the dedicated ones! Worth looking at unless you are dead set on dedicated and/or supported signage systems. James

Evening all, I've got a bit of a problem and I think the solution use another solution! Basically we are starting to use DirectAccess on our newer laptops, which works surprisingly well. The only problem we have is that we have a VPN connection to a vendor for a software we use, which is directly accessible on our lan using its IPv4 addresses. The problem is that DA is mostly a IPv6 technology and as the subnet is off site and not on our DNS, ISATAP is a bit of a bust. Is there anyway for those DA computers to route to an IPv4 subnet that is off DNS? I am assuming not and those people who need access to that subnet will have to have a different VPN solution(thankfully its only a handful who need this, so not end of world, but would still like to make DA the defacto solution across our remote computers). Any insights would be gratefully received. Thanks James

Evening all, We have, after a network refresh, a load(circa 30) Sonicpoint Ne single radio access points sitting around doing nothing. Do these have a resale value? We have traded in the SonicWalls, but the points weren't part of that deal. Are there companies that will buy these or am I stuck with a box of oversized hockey pucks! Thanks James
