I always use the built in cleaning page on our HPs....does the same thing with plain A4..

It was put to me that we might think to play with Nagios here...Ubuntu was suggested. I'm up for that..but then I ran across FAN 1.1...CentOS/Nagio and tools in one prebuilt disk... Anyone tried it? I think I'm going to to stick it on a P3 Dell and see what it's like...

My first job in September after the main service is a full check of leads. Every plug off, blasted with cleaner and WD40, packed with lithium grease and reconnected. The HT leads come off, get cleaned and dried, then the plugs get checked and it all goes back together and gets a coating of spray HT sealer. Clean out the throttle body, grease all cables, battery out, earths dismantled and cleaned, regreased and redone, battery cleaned and back in. It's a couple of hours tops, but I've never had any electrical issues. IIRC, these splitfire plugs I'm running are 2 years old now. The HT leads are 5. I might change the plugs this year..heh. My money's on the HT side.

mmm...could be clutch, yes. Or wet plugs/leads/distributor cap...IIRC, the older Clios (it's about the same age as my astra) had DIS ignition but still kept the cap. I know my 11 did. Dry rag, wipe over the HT leads (engine off). Pop them off the plugs, wipe plug bodies dry and put back. Make sure none of the leads are brushing against the engine block. Maybe undo 2 screws and pop the dizzy cap off (watch the springloaded carbon brush), dry inside that and refit. Blast the lost with WD40 or similar. If it's misfiring, it'll jerk. Mine surges after a cold start for 30 seconds or so until cylinder 4's hydraulic lifters wake up. The autobox damps it out though, especially in snow mode.

Mutter, mutter..that's the only arse I had with it. I did the updates and picked the OLDEST version of it..97.xx..works nicely on my 6100. The other 2 just put the screen out to "unsupported" modes. So far, 64 bit Ibex is good...everything works, everythings quick and seamless, nice looking..got XFCE if I find Gnome too slow. Even got my freeview stick working spot on. Shame about Lightscribe not being available, but I can VM Windows if I need that. Jems just installed it on her Dell Duallie laptop - again, it just worked. Wifi apart, and that was the native driver being a pain..I just NDISwrapper'd it with the Win32 one. Spot on. So, we're now a Linux household..2x 64bit Ubuntu 8.10, and one AA1 Netbook running Fedora/Linpus. Not missing anything yet.

I've come in from mums/gone home from there a few times and seen some idiots getting their comeuppance..heh. Narrow, windy roads... 1 car upside down with the driver looking confused, 1 in a wall, driver in car, 1 come off the road at a high point overlooking the severn - couldn't see any more, but it he didn't end up in it, he's lucky. There was one up here..big long 3 lane hill, can get a fair speed down it/up it...accidnet must have happened in the day, but at night I drove past..metal on both sides of the road, and a wheel complete with suspension sat in the feeder lane.

snow in Telford too...surprisingly the roads aren't too bad if you're careful! Playgrounds and carpark are totally untreated, as are the roads outside my house..oh joy. Not looking forward to the home run or tomorrow. Had to listen to the inner child though and take snow mode off in the carpark, then boot it...sideways drift in an Astra..heh.

I was playing Shadow warrior the other night..heh..that and Blood 1...nothing has come close to Blood 1's dark humour for me, since.. "whoa, what the hell did that do..?".. Space b@stards was quite good as well (small platformer, NLA unfortunatly)

I use beyondexec sometimes to send whingy kids to pampers.com after they've had their games banned. The volume and level of threats increases most amusingly. Also got a 1280x1024 jpg of a babys dummy that I fire up, just to REALLY infuriate them.

check the boot.ini...bootcfg/rebuild might sort that out. I've had a few go that way.

Yep..agreed. I carry around a 4gb Cruzer, and a 4gb "no name" unit that I was given. Cruzer is a boot disk/utility store/u3 drive, and the generic one is a dev copy of the website/intranet and a copy of uniform server. I'd go for £20 16gb as a software store "on the move" though. Instead of my CD pack.

I've had 3 WD Passports on my desk of late..all dead. Not robust kit IMO. OK, some teachers are sausage fingered idiots, but... I always prefer solid state storage...more robust.
