Hi, I am trying to work out why the U (home drive) is not being listed in the My Computers folder. All the other mapped drives are. When I click on my documents its directing them to it but obviously its a bit confusing for them. I can't see a policy that specifically hides it. I have seen a few bits on the web about having to delete a drive then re attach one but haven't tried it yet. Anyone seen this?

Hi, We are looking at installing a monitor and a mini pc to show stuff on (sorry can't think of what its called) like the news or the school menu for the day and am looking for a vesa mount that you can attach a mini pc to like this one. MSI WindBox DC100-009EU PC System Anyone bought one they can recommend. not sure yet if its going to be wall mounted or ceiling mounted until i get it and see how it fixes.. celing probably .

Can this delete them also? I have managed to get a internet explorer (2) on the profile now.

Hi again, Just a few more things... I thought I was really clever and worked out how to add My computer to the nav pane making the libraries usable but the dimensions of the new windows always show with the nav pane as 90% across and the folders on the right as a narrow windows. After looking for ages on the internet it appears its a common issue about windows not remembering the sizes and I can't find a fix..I have tried several fixes including a reset fix but its still defaults to a cr@ppy size. Soooooo I may need to disable the nav pane which I have found out how to do but... when I open up a save as it goes to the libraries so I can't get to the mapped drives easily... well I can just type the mapped drive letter but it will baffle staff and kids. Anyone seen this issue or have a workaround. Hoping this can be done via GP as I really need to get these units out.

Thanks for this, the only thing I have to sort out now is that the default size when I open explorer shows the navigation winodws 90% across the screen and I can't work out how to change it... it seems to default back to the silly size when I log off and back on...

Hi, I am trying to work out how to pin items to the start menu in W7, I have created a default profile nicely which has the pinned items I want and the links are in the default profile folders. For some reason they are not showing up in the student or staff logons.. so it looks a bit pants as its blank. I did read somewhere that they must exist in the redirected start menu folders. (I redirect to the C: drive) Oh and does anyone know what the least permissions need to be in the redirected folder? I have found that staff can delete items from the menu folder.. not a biggy as it syncs on logon but an annoyance. Almost ready to deploy 50 W7 machines.. so sad to be leaving XP. S

Evening all, I have decided I need to take the plunge to W7, I love XP but the current new crop of machines and laptops don't have all the drivers I want and the wireless extras on W7 mean I need to do it over this holidays. I have around 40 machines I am going to coexist, I have mandatory pupil profiles and open profiles for staff and redirected start menus... I copy the menus to the clients C: drive and redirect to there... seems to work okay and I might try to drill this down even more at some point. I have read the gotchas and loads of articles.. (shame someone couldn't come up with a definitive library killer).. and done a bit of testing so am 80% happy but does anyone have any stuff I should watch out for or some font of knowledge/advise they can give. I've got a full week to get these up and running.

Hi, Does anyone know the way to deelte the old computer information from Solus 3 so it picks up the new computers after they are sysprepped. I have done a few computers and they are stuck, the old computer is there but will only delete from view.. when you re-add it then it still has the old information. The old comptuer client will allow a uninstall manually but will not go back.. i have been through the registry and wiped all stuff related to Solus 3 but its still saying it cannot connect. I have also tried manually instaling Solus 3 agent but it shows up on the console with no data or version number so won't update.

Any pointers on how to check this? I have HAP's running on the same server and the other one seems fine. I have gone through the settings and everything checks out and the rest of the site is fine.

I have tried putting the domain at the front but its still not working. Could it be an issue that I am using 2 HAP installs on the same server? The other one works fine. Theres no errors in the event log and I don't seem to be pulling staff into the room booking section either if that helps.

Hi, I have created a seperate HAP for staff running alongside the current HAP which logs students directly into their folders. For some reason its started not allowing me to logon to the setup page. it logs you on correclty to the frontpage and shows the domain admins username on the right hand side so auth is okay but goes round in circles and never gets to the logon page. I got round this by deleting the line for the setup.aspx page. Not ideal but its a workaround but its doing the same thing for the boking page for all staff even though they have access to it. Is there an obvious thing I can check? The rest of it works perfectly.

Here is a reply from our Sims guru. The reporting of timetable info out of both SIMS and T6 is still not as good as T4. If you run an All Staff timetable it comes out alphabetically using the 1st initial, rather than the surname, which is not much help. Our 10 period day does not fit onto a year group timetable and I can't remove the footer, or change the margins to make it fit to one page. Just a couple of things .. The T4/T6 reporting issue has been going on for years and its still not been addressed properly.

Is it defunct or is the version in the program files still workable. I only ask this as T4 is still used by lots of schools for reporting as T6 reporting isn't much good.

Ermmmm.... T4 seems to have vanished from the menu, which is a bit of a pain.

Got the ShrinkDB file from Sims this morning... nice and tidy now.

Standard edition 64bit. The onyl issue I have is the solus3_deployment_server_log is 8Gb and is filling up my C drive...... and Sims case logging is down

Decided to do it and..... it worked perfectly. Even the clients are updating 12 hours after the deployment. Solus 3 is still not perfect but it seems ok.

Can't do it anyway, my solus3_deployment_server_log file seems to be 9Gb so theres not enough room on my C drive to run it.

I have been bitten pretty much on every release of Sims... should I or shouldn't I????

Hi, I am looking for some help with networking in my schoolover the summer holiday.. helping with VLANing and maybe guest access. Can anyone recommend a company in West Yorkshire that they have used previously. We are fully netgear in school so one that likes and knows their weird terminology would be good too. Thanks

Lync interested me cos it wasn't much cash and obvioiusly would talk to my Windows network easily enough. Looks liek I will have to look at open source stuff but I really wanted one which I could group policy the settings for ease of use.

Because I wanted to use it as an alert system as well as a messaging system.. and I didn't want to give emails to all the kids in school. I intended to run it alongside emaisl for staff and instead of for outlook for kids.

Well after getting it running and adding a few users for testing I find that you can't do offline messaging so its not what I wanted anyway....I found an article on MS forum anbout this and they talk about making API's and TNT's and stuff like that which I am not going down the line of. Waaaaay to overbloated too, thats Lync and UAG I have got rid of recently... my M$ whore tag is slipping.

Morning, I am having a play with MS Lync as we have been looking at an instant messaging system for staff and its dirt cheap on our schools agreement. I have it installed and working and I am on lync as an admin but wondered how everyone else has set up their system. I would like to lock it down as much as I can but the ADM that MS supplies is a bit weak. I'd also like to lock down who can chat to who... what I don't want is the kids chatting between themselves all the time.. and I wondered if groups can be automatically created for people... say set lists.
