Hi, Does anyone have a cloud based policy they can let me look at. We have some staff using Google Apps now for school work so we would like a policy about this and data protection and the way we backup.

On site here. Powershell is very powerful but so is the right click on the GUI. No idea why everyone gets carried away with command lines. Exchange 2010 with outlook which hasn't missed a beat in over 3 years and its very easy to manage.

We got ours yesterday, a lovely 6 pack of 7982s and a controller, even came with a free mug, coaster and pen.

I was walking the dog last night past a junior school which looked like it had parents evening. 2 cars were dumped on the hatches right outside the school whilst the fatty parents went in to collect their lazy kids. It was a bit wet though so I would hate Brittany to get wet. Was going to take a photo but wouldn't want them coming out and lambasting me for being a concerned parent.

I think its more a school policy as we have so many who require readers and the faffing about with CRB checks is a pain.

I don't use exchange, its just the Skydrive we want.

Morning, just curious if anyone locks office 365 down to limit what the kiddies can do. I've had a look round and you can do some stuff but its quite open. Looking at stuff like stopping them doing blogs or disabling sites (think I have solved that one). Thinks like removing the newsfeed and sites at the top (did find a way to do this but it didn't work). Also them messing with their profile information. I know its built on SharePoint but really we just want SkyDrive and office 365, no interest in sites just yet. Also, where is the link for downloading the software for the students. I have found it once and installed it but I can't find it again.

Morning, Just wondering what other school use in regards to pupils in exams who are allowed to have 'readers'. We've been told that human readers aren't supposed to be used now so electronic ones are needed. This also applies to writing down too where they would need something to type into too. Previous years we just used an old laptop which was locked down with word but we may need 10 this year for it and we need more. Interested in what software is used, I downloaded the free version of Clara reader but it keeps crashing and the web version relies on a rock solid internet connection which is fine.. until its not fine. iPads have been mentioned obviously as they are the solution to everything but typing on them is not the easiest. Chromebooks need the internet too so that's out. Maybe a cheap laptop or does anyone know of a specialist device? Swaying towards just buying the software and sticking them into rooms with PC's.

Have you rebuilt the address book and made tripley sure the little tick box with 'hide from global dress book' is unticked?

Just to reignite this thread. We have chromebooks and ipads in the junior school and we use Edmodo a lot which links in with Google drive really well but I prefer m$ especially with the free office offer they are doing. Does anyone use both in schools or is that stupid?

Thank god I am not alone in the fight. Spent an hour now looking for a decent script that suits my needs but given up for now. I don't want to have to mess around with attributes to define kids and teachers in my active directory and I just want to assign part of the A2 license as I don't want exchange or lync. I will come back to it later. But I sorted it myself anyway. I added the word student to the Departments bit of ADUC (around 30 seconds) for all my users. I created a view which looks for the student in Departments (30 seconds) and unlicensed. Selected 20 at a time, and edited them and assigned licenses. if it showed 50 it would only take me 2 minutes to do them all. I know its not automated but I have done all my users (only 400 or so) in 5 minutes and I don't feel like Neo from The Matrix

I think I am starting to realise that the admin portal website is a viewer and if you want to do anything useful you have to use scripts. I guess I am just lazy and like a GUI, back to 1985 I go

Morning, I have DIRSYNC setup which uploads all the users in defined OU's to the cloud but have a couple of questions. Is there a way to set the user location of the accounts in the domain so it uploads to the cloud without scripting. Actually is there a way to assign licenses without having to script? Where does it get the security groups from? I have 4 that its synced and they seem to be random. Just curious because I have spent hours trawling through the internet looking for clever scripts to automate this stuff and I hate scripting, its all dutch to me.

Hi, Just wondering what sort of spec people are running App-V stuff on. After the demo of Magellan yesterday it pricked an interest in this. I wouldn't imagine it would get hammered but useful for maybe running flash sites on ipads (overkill I know) and other M$ only software. Biggest draw would be remote Sims which we have running in a hyper-v server now as not many people use it.

Had a web demo of it yesterday, it looked real good. They did say they are still working on office 365 and Google password syncs but they showed me the Edmodo logon sync and it worked well. I imagine that if M$ in their wisdom change the password methods these guys are using it can be fixable as that's a game changer. The remote sessions worked well too. just want a price now.

Hi, I recently switched from using some Netgear wireless stuff to the excellent Ruckus gear. Problem is the poe injectors I was using (axis poe midspan) seem to reboot the aps constantly.I have Netgear switches and the Netgear GS724TSP-200EUS never worked with my vlan settings (I have some other POEs running some Netgear kit instead of using the Netgear switch) Can anyone recommend me some decent POE injectors... or a decent Netgear switch with POE capabilities. I have a case logged with Netgear about the POE problem but haven't had the time to follow it up or I might not need them.

I am talking about the reasons they have told me that they are not rolling out the updates to us at h moment. Our librarian says the way it picks up the fingerprints means you still have to type a number or letter in the box before it picks them up. The update fixes this.

Exactly which is why I hate chromebooks too and anything 'new'
