I have got one user (who has been here forever so it isn't a new account) who can log in to HAP+, but doesn't see the "Booking System" icon on the homepage or any network drives. If you type the URL of the booking system in, it says; Error: Unauthorised Access You have attempted to access a restricted resource I am not aware that any of my other teachers can't access it, and trust me, they'd let me know! The one who can't is in the same OU and security groups as the others who can. I've just created a brand new user and that account is suffering exactly the same problem! I have tried removing accounts and re-adding them to groups, I have two DCs and no sync problems between them, tried changing passwords just in case, typed the wrong password in and it told me I had so it is obviously talking to AD, copied an existing working account and that worked fine, I've gone through the entire list of attributes on the Attribute Editor tab and all seemed fine. I am at an absolute loss here. Anyone got any thoughts please? I could probably delete her account and re-set it up by copying someone else, but don't want to as it will need her profile on her laptop and class computer faffing with, and her mailbox, plus it would be nice to fix it anyway if it's going to do it for all my new accounts! Yep, desktops all day. 120GB might be a bit small though, depends how many different users are likely to be logging in.

They aren't anything format. They're brand new disks. It's not getting as far as trying to boot from them, just detect them during POST. They are now working in my DL360 Gen9 though!

Update on this one. I've managed to migrate servers around quite a bit and now have the SSDs in my HP DL360 Gen9 where they also don't work. Hoping to try some firmware updates on the server to see if that helps. They did work in my somewhat ancient Dell R710 though! I don't want them working in there, I want them in a newer server. Grrrr.......

I have an HP ProLiant DL360 Gen9 which I want to update BIOS and various bits of firmware on. I can't as HP won't let me download the important bits without having a valid warranty! Anyone know a way around this please? I've always purchased Dell/HP servers in the past, looks like it may be Dell/Somethingelse from now on if I can't do simple things like this. Thank you Stuart

I noticed recently that our WSUS is doing MS Project updates as it sees them as required by the clients. We don't have MS Project installed anywhere. I'm assuming there is an aspect of Office (an Add-in or something) which is throwing this up. Does anyone know which part of Office Professional means that our server thinks Project updates are needed? Stuart

I successfully ran the mbr2gpt utility, then booted in to the BIOS and set it to UEFI rather than Legacy and tried Bitlocker again. It then passed the first bit and said it was going to encrypt, then failed saying "file not found". I did a little Googling and as a result of that I renamed the file called "reagent.xml" to "reagent.old" and the drive is now encrypting. Thanks to all for your input. Stuart

I don't know much about Bitlocker but need to turn it on on eight laptops. One laptop was built, then Acronised, then downloaded on to the other seven. Each was then renamed and added to the domain. Windows 10 LTSC. Server is 2012 (Yes I know, that's changing next year). They are Dell laptops. In the BIOS at the moment TPM 2.0 is on, Secure Boot is off, Boot list option is Legacy (not UEFI) and in Advanced Boot Options "Enable Legacy Option ROMs" is enabled. Now I know some of those settings are wrong for a perfect Bitlocker setup, but I thought you could still use it and it would just want a password/USB stick at boot? Am I wrong on that? If I try and turn on Bitlocker it simply says "The startup options on this PC are configured incorrectly." but doesn't tell me which ones or what they should be set to. Please help! I really don't want to have to rebuild these again. Eight latops is a lot to do one at a time, but not enough to warrant a SCCM/whatever install! Thank you Stuart

New DT Technician who doesn't know where it came from, so we can't get it exported to something else. We can open it with a viewer, which will also save it is a jpg/png/others which Techsoft 2D will import, but not at all successfully as they are only pictures.

My DT department have an EDRW file which comes from SolidWorks which we don't have. They would like to open it in Techsoft 2D, which we do have! I've had a Google but can't find a route across. Does anyone know how I can convert it, even if it needs to go to via Autodesk (which we also don't have) or something? Thank you Stuart

Why are you doing this via scripts? Can't you just give them credit which resets itself to (for example) £1 per week and charge them 5p per print?

Yup, ours didn't. I still haven't figured out why but it is set properly before we sysprep, and then isn't after we download the image. Stuart

We had exactly this. We ran w32tm /unegister, and then w32tm /register from an elevated command prompt. Solved it. Stuart

If you use PaperCut, you can set up print queues with email addresses. Then they just email what they want to print as an attachment, and it comes out of the associated printer. Best to make the mailbox only accept emails from your domain though!

Hiya, I have two Dell R420 servers which when I got here used the S110 RAID controller to control the 7.2K hard drives. Not ideal for hosting the file server VMs! I have upgraded one of them to a perc H710 proper controller, a SAS cable, and 4x Dell SAS 10k hard disks. All is working fine. Over the summer I have purchased another perc H710 module, SAS cable and four Samsung 1.92TB Enterprise SSDs for the other one. With everything plugged in, the server won't boot. It hangs when it gets the to part of the POST where it does the RAID card (where it says "Press CTRL R to configure) whist saying "F/W Initializing Devices 100%" for a few minutes, then says "Adapter at base port is not responding. No Adapter.", then hangs at "Initializing firmware interfaces" forever. I left it for the weekend and it hadn't proceeded. If I take all four disks out it will boot, and pressing CTRL R will get me in to the configuring of the RAID. If I re-insert the disks at this point the controller will detect them all and I can configure them, but then after this it won't boot again while the disks are plugged in. I've tried booting with each of the disks in one at a time and it makes no difference. I also have an old R710 here which has a perc 6/i RAID controller built in and the SSDs all work in that one. The R420 is entirely up-to-date with it's firmware. The other R420 is live and I don't currently have the capacity to move servers off it to test scenarios with it. Anyone got any ideas please? I have a strange problem. If I ping some computer names, the correct IP address for that device is resolved. If I then ping that IP address with a -a switch it resolves to a different computer name. One of them (that I know of) is resolving to a computer name which I deleted from AD a couple of weeks ago, and I can't see it in DHCP or DNS. What's going on? This happens from any client/server on my network. ipconfig /flushdns makes no difference. All clients get their DNS servers through DHCP and the only two they get are my two DCs which are DNS servers too. The DNS servers listed on a client under ipconfig /all are IPv4, no IPv6 ones are there. Any clues? It's causing me an issue because when I try to push SIMS on to a client using SOLUS 3 it gets all confused and refuses to work. Thank you Stuart
