That still doesn't give a "Why". Why have Microsoft said that? I believe this is all sorted now. We certainly haven't had any issues. 90% of what people do here is Office based or browser based. Windows Features I'd say are largely irrelevant to whhat the kids do during a lesson. Plus most people's personal devices are probably an iPad or similar anyway aren't they? Once again - please don't take this as me arguing against you for the sake of it. I take these discussions as opinions, and take them onboard so I can make informed decisions. If I'm using LTSC but really shouldn't be, I'd make that change.

Why not use it? It's designed for use where things don't change. What changes in a school environment? We don't need the store. The same software gets used for the entire academic year, and honestly usually two or three years. It has a great EOL. It doesn't have the XBox/Candy Crush/all sorts of other junk on it. We still manage Windows Updates with it. I am not saying "Everyone should be using it and you're an idiot if you don't" by any stretch of the imagination, horses for courses and all that, just wondering if there are reasons it shouldn't be used?

Thanks to all for your replies and tips. I have always been very nervous of buying a refurb'd server but as a few people have suggested them and not one person has replied along the lines of "I wouldn't touch them" I'll certainly take a look.

I'm after a new Hyper-V hosting server. Haven't bought one for a few years so just want to check if I'm realistic on pricing; I have up to £4,500 to spend. Rackmounting, Dual PSU, 4x 1GB NIC, able to RAID, at least 3 year warranty, couple of CPUs, 128GB RAM, and then as much storage (at least 10K rpm disks) as I can get within budget. Doable still? It was four years ago when I last bought one! Discussion about why I'm buying an on-site server is not necessary, that's all already been done internally. I'm guessing it will be the last one I buy though! Stuart

Figured it! She created a form, and then copied and emailed around the URL in the address bar at the top, so of course it was taking everyone to a page to edit the form. I've now shown her the "Collect Responses" button which gives the actual URL you should send round...... Stuart

We've not used Forms extensively, but I'm sure it was working! We have a teacher who has done a form and sent the link around. It is set to "Anyone in my organization" can complete it. Anyone who clicks the link (and is logged in to O365!) gets a message saying something went wrong and they don't have permission. Any clues please? Thank you Stuart

It was absolutely this. I can only assume that the teacher had deleted an unsuccessful recording, and then when I put the iPad down to wake the Mac up it took that as a shake. Didn't know they did that. Thanks to all for your replies, all recordings now safely copied off and on to the network!

Bit scared....... One of our MfL teachers has spent the day recording student's speaking in French on an iPad. I am now about to AirDrop them to the network. I have selected all of them, then put the iPad down while I wake the Mac up to receive them. I've just looked back to the iPad and there's a message on the screen saying "Undo delete recording" and the choices are "Cancel" and "Undo". I can't get my head around the negatives and am unsure if I pressed delete accidentally and this will put them back, or whether it's about to delete them, and which choice I should choose! I cannot lose these recordings! Which do I press please? No liability or blame will be placed, but please help! Stuart

Hiya, My wife's laptop is running Windows 10 (won't do 11) and has Chrome and Edge installed. Often the laptop will run slow. If you have a look at Task Manager, iexplore has a very high CPU usage. Why?! Anyone know a way to stop it please? Googled, but really not finding much. Thank you Stuart

Apparently it's the fact it's a mechanical one which he prefers the feel of. I am wary of opening the flood gates to such requests, but at the same time if it's a one off where is the harm? I also wonder with this student if there's an element of "it'll be a cool thing to tell my mates and show off my £140 keyboard". I spoke to our exams officer who said she believes JCQ will say it's fine so long as it's memory can be wiped beforehand, much like calculators, but she'll check.

Really wasn't sure where to put this one....... We have a student who is allowed a laptop for their exams and has asked if they can bring in their own keyboard from home to use as they find it a lot more comfortable to use than the laptop one. It's a CoolerMaster SK621. I see no issue with it initially, but am aware that these things can record macros and do other clever stuff. The macros to me look like just a few key strokes, but I just felt I should check that there's no potential for him to have stored info on it which he can then generate in to what he's using to type his exam. Obviously we block memory sticks, so even if someone brought a keyboard in which also presented storage that wouldn't work, it is just the macro stuff I'm thinking about. Do the macro bits require a driver to work, or is it entirely dealt with by the keyboard? Should we be allowing this? Is there guidance somewhere? Thank you

Killer Gorilla on the BBC Model B, which I didn't find out until about 20 years later (well in to the 00's) was a clone of Donkey Kong! I don't know how, but I completely missed Donkey Kong existed until it became "retro".

Microsoft brings ChatGPT-style tech to Office365 Sounds like it might be a bit better than the old "It looks like you're typing a letter", but I really hope the icon to use it is a Paperclip!

Thanks all but we don't have an MDM as we have around a dozen iPads so never really saw the need. Is there a little free something? Will Apple's configurator thingy do it? Not played with that for about 8 years now.
