is it Possible to open a paxton door via a windows shortcut?
Jaan replied to Jaan's topic in Physical Security
yeah i think that the route we're gonna take here. cheers - - - Updated - - - awesome cool! i'll take a look -
I'm just thinking out loud here. Our office has paxton door access..... long office, door on one side, our desks on the other (not possible to move). we have a push to exit. We get lots of knocks at the door.... which means we have to get up and walk to allow someone in......... i thought cool, i'll get my steps in.... it's got frustrating very fast! it's been proposed that we have a "push to exit" button on our desks to allow access to the room if we're in there...... something like this: does anybody know if it's possible to make a shortcut or action that allows us to open the door via a click of the mouse instead of installing new physical hardware? The door is an external one, in a high use student area. Also the room needs to be secure due to the nature of stuff in here, so issuing access to the room other than it techs, cleaners SLT etc isn't an option. Just wondering if there's a geeky fix to this as i can't see one! It's not really a problem. just thinking outloud

We are replicating to another server and backing up the vms from that replica. Of course were fortunate enough to have a "spare" server outside of the S2D cluster. The issue with this is, if i need to restore a file, it expects the VM to be online to restore. I have to do a "copy to" restore and then manually browse to the VM file server that's online to restore the files. Would be great if i could just back up the vms direct from the cluster instead of having to use the method above, or protect each of the nodes separately. Just wondering what you guys do with veeam and S2D. I don't think Veeam officially supports S2D.

We have a Qnap TS-870 here also with Veeam, been rock solid.....always having firmware updates and software improvements, however it hasn't missed a beat once.

Hyper-V Cluster with Local Storage questions
Jaan replied to mdrabble's topic in How do you do....it?
We use a 3 node S2D solution here. The nodes all replicate to each other, if the case of a node failure it failsover to to another node. Each of the nodes have local storage. SSD cache layer with a spinning rust storage layer. We also use veeam. Whilst its doesn't directly support S2D 2019 (yet), we replicate the Vms from the cluster to a standalone "back up server" which then back ups to it's own independent SAN and replicates that to an "offsite" nas in another building. We then have to tape. We went from having 3 dedicated hyper-v hosts (non clustered), to this setup. The difference is amazing. Would recommend looking at VeryPCs options and Stones options. -
Is this not the self update mechanism? EDIT sorry just noticed this

What windows 10 build are you using? Ryzen 5 1000,2000 or 3000 I got caught out by this once. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/design/minimum/windows-processor-requirements

Anybody doing this? Are they using proprietary protocols/API? Thinking out load on my dinner break Found this but don't want to any more 3rd party apps. cheers

I didn't even think about that! lol Thanks for that makes sense now. So i just add my domain admin account or who ever is managing the email groups on the OU properties below? thanks again
-
Thanks for that, i'm still confused to how it knows which account to use as the owner or manager for the group just by putting managedBy into that field.

with an email address below it? Any change of a screenshot please?

Hi all, Just wanted to know if another Google Admin could check a setting for me in their "Google Cloud Sync" App. I have found where i need to change the setting, but i'm unable to find an example. not sure if its the DN i need to enter or simply the username and email address. Google says the below, which doesn't mean too much to me:

i've managed to do this centrally. I redeployed the older 9.6d and checked "uninstall if it fails out of scope" or words to that effect.... rebooted all machine a couple of times. then i marked it for removal immediately. couple of restarts laster, schoolcomms is no longer installed. then deployed the 9.6K the same way.... that also worked. However i get a UAC prompt that relates to the .dll not being installed. Which it is as i push that via gpo also.... will have another play tomorrow.

Jaan replied to Jaan's topic in How do you do....it?
This is to map the v: to launch the console. i thought the "newer" version didn't need a mapped drive. -
i've pushed the newer .dll via gpo also, no change - - - Updated - - - yay x 125

Hi all, Just pushed, the Schoolcomms 9.6K MSI out via GPO. Was working fine before this, but somebody had been told that a bug we were affected by had been addressed. Removed the old deployment and created a new one with the newer 9.6k .msi. It installs fine. just after you have tried to login i get the below error...... anybody else having this issue? Can find anything in the event viewer.

It's for more than one user in more than one location now. Also our users can't manually map drives.
