Our office staff just e-mail those staff that do not do their register in a timely fashion as it was easier. If we wanted to do an automated system it would be a nightmare as not all our classes start at the same time this year as the 2 key stages are staggered so our social areas are not over capacity.

Coronavirus: General discussion (see opening post for rules)
Boredguy replied to Dos_Box's topic in General Chat
Thats a 3 day old article, Portugal was allowed the following day https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-57117918 (helps if I put the right link!) -
I was basically discussing the similar MAT transfer with our licensing provider earlier even though we're not the lead school just to get the heads round it and make sure we knew where we were going with the licencing. Unlike you we've got the fun of creating a whole new 365 Tenancy which to migrate everything over to, but happy to have assisted with the sanity check.

[sims] SIMS performance issues since Easter hols?
Boredguy replied to PotNoodleTech's topic in MIS Systems
Solus shouldn't be 9Gb, so sounds like that might need the tidy up run -
If each of your schools had their own 365 Tenancy, then you would be restricted to the free service without a licence agreement (Which is normally just Outlook and not the Word/Excel part of Office) However if I read it correctly, you already have a single 365 Tenancy with each of the schools e-mail domains within it? If so then it shouldn't matter as that main tenancy would be associated with your Trust Volume Licence agreement (be it OVS/CSP)

Show My Homework / Satchel:One - Good/Mediocre/Bad?
Boredguy replied to pete's topic in Educational Software
Yes the Data Manager is the first port of call for any parental queries regarding it and she resets the passwords as required as the reception team struggle enough with resetting a student password via the intranet, never mind them having to do it via another site -

Boredguy replied to pete's topic in Educational Software
Our Data Manager is a full admin on SMH, but all the staff are not, since to reset a password they only need to be able to do it on the network since we use the SSO via 365 Azure and not the built in accounts in SMH -

We've been using it for a while with not issues, we use SSO with 365 for the staff and students, and parents have their own login to see the kids homework etc which is based on their mobile phone number set in you MIS. So far not had any issues with the sync and as it's using 365 to authenticate it's easier for the kids as it's the same interface for that and 365 (plus we've also added a app shortcut in the 365 dashboard to take them straight there too) -
SIMS and auditing data is something that doesn't go hand in hand due to how it was designed =/

Could always use a 2x4 to raise them off the floor, plus give some side support at the bottom?
-
I'm going to guess the original request was to limit access outside of school hours, which could be interesting, but without ADFS providing the authentication direct you might be out of luck.. and even then we all know it will open up more issues than it might want to solve such.

We've got our old router that was replaced last September still sat on a box waiting for the ISP to arrange someone to come and collect, since they were unable to do so at the time due to covid restrictions (even though they could send BT engineer out to do the work, and it was only picking a box up)... We've also got 2 BT LES units sat waiting from over 4 years to get collected... think they might end up in the next recycling collection as BTo don't seem to want them.

[sims] Solus3 Unable to download or Deploy any updates
Boredguy replied to bobmanuk's topic in MIS Systems
Well you can try setting it to NULL via an SQL query UPDATE solus3_deployment_server.Solus3.system_config SET proxy_address = NULL WHERE service_guid = 'yourserviceguidvalue' then try restarting the Solus 3 service -

Boredguy replied to bobmanuk's topic in MIS Systems
The last ditch check in the DB can be done, assuming you have the SQL Management Studio installed on your server. Connect and open the solus3_deployment_server database, and right click on the Solus3.system_config table and select "Select view the top 1000 rows" (but there will only be 1) Scroll along and double check that the proxy_address and proxy_port are set as NULL. I would expect them to be so since your Solus 3 console is showing that none are set, but sometimes there is no harm in checking to make sure -

Other place to look, but not recommended, is to actually update the value directly in the Solus 3 Database (I had to do that to get the damn proxy to work in the first place) -

Boredguy replied to bobmanuk's topic in MIS Systems
Nope that should be the only settings... however what you can try doing (though doubt it will make any difference) in the solus 3 admin console, is the toggle switch in the top right corner to turn it on and off... you can try switching S3 off, update the proxy details to something and then clear it again, then turn S3 back on. I sincerely doubt it will make any difference, but you never know. I assume you've already called your SIMS support company to see if they have the info since thats part of the service you would be paying for? -

If you have removed it from the My Site Proxy Settings and rebooted the server, and the server is able to access the site via the browser (not that we should be using browsers on servers) then as long as the new proxy server details are set with the Solus 3 console (if needed for Sophos) then it should be using it. -
Activ calibrate repeatedly popping up
Boredguy replied to cherd84's topic in Promethean Direct Support
What version of Windows 10 are you on? We're running 1909 and all our Gen 2 boards are running the 5.7.22 Driver and not had any BSoD or calibration popups occurring. Have you tried connecting a laptop or another base unit in to see if the issue is actually with the Board and not something strange going on with the PC? -
Been watching Shadow and Bone on Netflix, certainly an interesting series, but shame it's only the 8 episodes so far

you can add a step to your task sequence to fix the issue. MDT, ADK and Failure (5616): 15299: Verify BCDBootEx - Blogs - EduGeek.net has the step to add the new entry into the PreInstall -> New Computer Only to fix the UEFI detection so that 20H2 builds regardless of BIOS or UEFI

There was an issue from around 14:20 yesterday based on the screams of frustration from our admin ladies.

We normally run our own fibre these days, and one of our local electrical firms then comes in to splice on the pigtails. Last time we paid £500 for 24 cores to be terminated, and I've still got plenty of OM4 8 core fibre on the drum I bought 5 years ago in case we need to run more. Decided it was easier do go this route than pre-terminated as it meant only needing 12mm holes drilled instead of 25-30mm holes in the walls, but it still came in cheaper than some of the quotes we had for it all to be installed by a company

Merging Tenancies - Considerations and best practice
Boredguy replied to CyBeRkId2002's topic in Cloud Services
We are planning on doing something similar with all our secondary schools, but also going down the route of moving us all over to a single AD domain as well due to the ADSync limitations. We're likely to be doing the migration ourselves using the MS powershell scripts so that will be fun. Regarding the isolating address lists, that is actually very simple to do using the OWAMailboxPolicy, and we've had that in place for years on our tenancy so that students don't get the Governors and support staff in their address list. We already have standardised our retention policy and Teams policies but we will recreate them as it doesn't take too long. As for moving Teams over... we already have powershell scripts and SIMS reports for creating and adding the users so that task shouldn't be bad, but might see if https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepointmigration/how-to-use-the-sharepoint-migration-tool can be extended to copy over the content as well (since we will be using it to copy over staff files) -
Promethean PRM-35 Replacement/Equivalent
Boredguy replied to dekusolutions's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
We switched out our old Short Throw Sanyos with Epson EB-530, and AVPartsmaster have a range of brackets suitable to go on the Promethean booms (but they are around £80), or our other method was a A4 sheet of 3mm aluminium and some bolts. -
Our DB is mainly used with read access as it just checks the MAC address to get the computer name/OU/Task sequence etc. Server IP has not changed recently has it? Might be worth checking that TCP/IP access hasn't accidently somehow been disabled for SQL Open SQL Server Configuration Manager Expand SQL Server Network Configuration Select Protocols for MSSQLSERVER Double click TCP/IP on the right
