  1. Expert in Cubase or Cubasis? There is a differnce Cubase does it all fine - and Cubasis *should* do it but they are two worlds apart Can one comment on the various Cubase Sx3 versions about? (not got time to start new thread - am late lol - mark, let me know later) Our teacher uses the scoring part of things, but some say the scoring in the cheaper Cubase Sx (SL, SE) versions is different/not there. Is this true? Cheers Nath
  2. [isp] <> [spam assassin box] <> [Exch box] so all mail goes thru it (suppose you could say the assassin is a proxy (sounds like a song lol)] and everyone just uses the exch box as normal - but with no spam lol There are some firewall's that you can get spam/email filtering modules/plugins for too btw. If you have Exchange 2003, doesn't each CAL give you a outlook 2003 license (if you dont use OWA that is)? For stationary users (if this is what you were thinking) like admin users, it might be the best way Cheers Nath
  3. You can get Cubase SE3 (think its E) for about £50 each now - we're looking at the different flavours today. Either way, it would be alot better than Cubasis - Cubase SX3 is probably overkill tho (depending on the usage) and SL3 looks a good medium at around £118 p/license. We have one version of SX1 (soon to be upgraded to SX3) and have various older versions of VST 5, 3.7, etc... , and also got given (lol) 4 copies of Cubasis [shrink wrapped - edu versions] - they have got used to them but its like a different program compared to Cubase lol Midi is sooo much easier to use on Cubase than Cubasis. I'll let you know more info later. What are they gonna be using the suite for mark? Does the teacher know how to use Cubasis? (or cubase?) [never got to ask you that lol ur batt died lol] Cheers, Nathan
  4. No problem. If you have to reimage any in the future, give it a go and see if it makes any difference. Besides, it's also useful in disabling the use dialup check box and i imagine that it should change the logon domain to whatever you set it as (for when you logon as a local machine user - if u need to ) Cheers N.
  5. Not quite sure of your question dude but its sooo much easier to get a WSUS system setup on your DC or a member server. If thats still a no no then either: a) stick SP2 on and then visit http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=31886 for a list of current hotfixes which gives you all the hotfixes for post SP2 which you can use in a script b) create a UA CD with SP2 and all the hotfixes, updates, etc slipstreamed too Cheers N.
  6. hmmmm will give it a go - u saying that it worked for you then? And does it do anything when you apply it to a GP? Dont use any view filtering tho - but will have a look thanks Cheers Nath
  7. Dont see why it would no :S - unless RIS uses the same port but its unlikely. I dont use R|S yet so cant say for sure. Cheers N.
  8. wish you mark - then maybe i can stop reading new posts and go to bed :P N.
  9. alot of Trade suppliers require you to register and log on in order to view prices. Prob for the same reason lol N.
  10. nice one how much you paying now? did u still have to pay the final month with aol. I hope after that russ that they'd wave that one after all the hassle (but then again, pig will fly no doubt ) Nath.
  11. what about assman.exe in sims? lmao that *has* to be up there in the "top 10 stupid app names poll"? Nath
  12. still waiting for this years kudos from powys' careers dept..... *whistles to himself* how similar to last years version is it? I ended up making a tidy install for it if its similar - same process will work - shall make ya a copy of the script and info on what to do if folk are interested ta, Nath
  13. lmao at andy - free sky - the come out in droves i'll bet lmao getting them to go to reg/lessons wasw the hard part I bet (and that was just the teachers lmao) Nath.
  14. was exactly my comment (nearly lol) i migrated from nt 4 to my 2003 with ease using that tool too the only thing was that it didnt migrate the passwords over - i tried all sors with it but then thought bugger it - not a bi prob. Everything else was good users & groups moved the HD out of the old server - the one containing the users home dirs - and imported the specific user and a few other shares from the old server that i had exported from the reg of the NT 4 server. Worked nice. Even ran it a few times to make sure - yes u can migrate the users a fw times. worked good N.
  15. i got sum originals for £16 - not from county that is mark - powys knows they wont be getting the £12 copies back lol N.
  16. Just had a thought that perhaps if u create a default user [domain - in the netlogon share] - when making the profile, you could set the Always On choice accordingly and then all machines would have that in them (maybe) and you could make it so all machines choose Always On during logon - reg tweak for that Or something like that Nath
  17. tried the .adm template myself today and it doesnt show any settings in the GPO - it shows the category have compared it (in notepad) myself with a "proper" one and i cant see any problems in it as to why its not showing up properly [ps - is there any freeware .adm makers - I've tried PTE and saw another that say 2003 which I might tryout - it looks more complicated than PTE tho) Any thoughts? Nath
  18. looks good to me mark the thought occurs - how is the script being executed? have you moved the script to the netlogon of the 2003 server then? mine is working fine - just for equal measure, i've added kix32.exe (with share path) to the firewall exceptions list but it was working before i did that One thought is - when installing Server 2003 - did it have sp1 slipstreamed into it i.e. server 2003 SP1 CD - or not because if so, the server's firewall will be on by default, as opposed to installing SP1 afterwards (in the later - you have to run a wizard to enable it and other stuff - not done it so dont know what process it is exactly) PS have you tried using the latest version of kix32.exe - it *may* help but wont do any harm as u dont have any complex things that might have changed Cheers Nath
  19. have you tried it on more than one pc? i.e. on a different model to the one you tried it on I've found programs in the past *coughs "kudos" hehe* that refuse to install on a networked pc, especially when using folder redirection for the Start Menu in some cases. Odd though about a direct3D error. Have you tried updating the gfx drivers too? Cheers N.
  20. Um.... so long as you've only set the IP range in VNCon (and that the range itself doesn't change) AnD have it set to rescan the range every 5 mins, then I cant see the prob. N.
  21. good point mate... Will have to give him a shout N.
  22. Hi all Just a small plea to anyone advertising a educational/county based network techie / IT techie post in the area of Machynlleth outwards (i.e. Aberystwyth, Dolgellau, Newtown/Welshpool). I'm getting increasingly more frustrated at where I work (cant go into details publicly but pm's are welcome hehe). Looking for anything paying a good wage for the job and good management support. If you know of somewhere, please post a link / details too thanks (searching every job site i can find from here-on lol) Many thanks Nath.
  23. £5?? thats a bit cheap aint it? lol What does that include? Nath.
  24. Thought it might be that - I *think* that comes with 6 ports active on it (lucky git) - 2 x external, 2 x trusted, 2 x optional (1st being for connection to powys router, the later being for physically seperate lan - policy manager defining what can see what ) Cheers N.
  25. Hi Shane By using the Outlook adm template in your Group Policy is probably your best bet. and/or you could make a mst that you use when installing Office that doesnt allow access to that toolbar (see the office resource kit i think - should have the answers your looking for) Regards Nath
