  1. if the Mac's hardware doesnt do PXE, then i dont see how you can aka ur stuck to using a CD or USB pen. Does its BIOS have no options in the network card area to do PXE booting? Theres a setting Dell's have called Boot w/ImageServer instead of PXE, but not sure what thats about [aka havent needed to find out ]. Puzzling stuff....
  2. That leads me on to another point Sukh.... Is Exchange all updated with SP's and Update Rollups / Hotfixes etc? Can cure alot of wrongs if it isnt... but research any Exch SP's to avoid "surprises" Nath
  3. With a service that did that sort of lock up, we used procdump [ ProcDump ] with the Microsoft Support Services Engineer, to get the dump files. Cant remember the exact command line to use but it wasnt too hard to figure it out.... might be of use, especially if u want to make a dump of the crash to see whats occurin' Nath
  4. EDIT: Ignore my post - you've all beat me to my posting hehe Save as: thestopstartspecial.bat and use Scheduled Tasks (with an account that has permissions to stop those services etc etc) NOTE: The order of stopping them should be checked out first, use ping waits inbetween if needed, etc. I recall Exch 2003 being a bit of a winger regarding that many moons ago. I take no responsibility if it destroys all your data and doesnt take you out on a date to make up for it etc....
  5. If those services stop, do u have them set to auto recover i.e. start the service again in the configuration of each service. Being ur on Exch 2003, I'll assume Server 2003 too, and you just need to: Run > Services.msc > Double Click the service(s) in question > Click the Recovery tab and set the Frist, Second, and Third Failure to Restart the Service and see how that goes although I'm assuming you've already tried this, or that the service itself doesnt actually stop, and just locks up, meaning that this likely wont work and I could see this being a right pain in the proverbials Nath
  6. Can you update your first post with what you have in the script now? and the resultant output too?
  7. Can you not detail them here? Or are u specifically after a consultant to fix them?
  8. Saw you use that in another thread.... might give that a go myself. I'm sure the techies here could benefit from it most likely, although (without looking into it), I'd need it in a Press F12 to initialise the menu [like the current boot into WDS/SCCM does].
  9. hehe I mean you've got explainations in the script i.e.: and have following it given us the output of the script that still has those explainations in it:
  10. er... I think theres something wrong with ur error message ;)
  11. Couldn't you capture that ISO as a boot wim and add it into WDS somehow as a boot image? [just thinking out loud there, being I dont use WDS natively] Ta.
  12. We found not having the setting there much more tempermental than having it there, so worth a shot (on a test/group of machines) Outlook 2010 + Exchange = a joy Outlook 2007 + Exchange = works Outlook 2003 + Exchange = i darent even attempt it We're running Exchange 2010 btw (have Exchagne 2007 on a diff domain tho only accessed via OWA), but 2007 is very similar in alot of aways, compared to Exchange 2003 at least, so there is a fair bit that applies to both. Cheers.
  13. Yeah, i know all this, but alas, I was told not to set up another WSUS server just for SCCM etc.... but we digress PM me if u want to chat over messenger etc Always willing to talk about SCCM with people Nath.
  14. Forgot to mention that we have account lockout policy in place so providing you know your domain setup, its not a problem.... providing care and testing is used of course
  15. Exchange Server Versions - detailing SP's, Rollups and Versions Exchange 2010 SP1- Update Rollup 6 is currently the latest: Here's the initial blog announcement on it: You Had Me At EHLO... : Released: Update Rollup 6 for Exchange Server 2010 SP1 Specific fixes in this are: 2627769 Some time zones in OWA are not synchronized with Windows in an Exchange Server 2010 environment 2528854 The Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Replication service crashes on a computer that has Exchange Server 2010 SP1 installed 2544246 You receive a NRN of a meeting request 120 days later after the recipient accepted the request in an Exchange Server 2010 SP1 environment 2616127 "0x80041606" error code when you use Outlook in online mode to search for a keyword against a mailbox in an Exchange Server 2010 environment. 2549183 "There are no objects to select" message when you try to use the EMC to specify a server to connect to in an Exchange Server 2010 SP1 environment Exchange 2007 SP3 - Update Rollup 5 is currently the latest: Here's the initial blog announcement on it: You Had Me At EHLO... : Released: Update Rollup 5 for Exchange Server 2007 SP3 Specific fixes in this are: DST: New updates for August DST - Exchange 2007 2536695 "Some items cannot be deleted" error message when you try to delete or modify an email message in a public folder in an Exchange Server 2007 environment 2292150 A deleted hyperlink remains in the HTML source of an email message if you create the email message by using OWA in an Exchange Server 2007 environment (article not yet live) In regards to either Exchange 2007 or 2010, the following is worth noting: Also, check the appropriate blog post before getting the update - in case new info has come to light etc I'll update this when i get around to it etc, but feel free to nag/pm/post/punch me about it if you see it before I do Enjoy ppl Nath
  16. hehe SCCM's management of WSUS/MU seems so complex compared to just running WSUS, although the SCCM Maintainance Window(s) thingy seems good idea - just not had chance to put it into practice. As Win7 SP1 deploys out like a dream, i'm currently working on getting a custom boot wizard set up, and hitting a few (many) road blocks. Suppose it doesnt help that i never bothered to learn VB scripting.... hate the thing.... give me php/powershell/batch/anything pretty much, but vB scripts seem [to me at least] to be the devil brought to life in scripty form. hehe Anyhow.... i digress.... Nath
  17. Sukh's link is on the money btw. I had to do the same thing myself and we went from semi-frequent prompts to it only happening on a rare occasion (usually caused by switching between multiple connections and/or password change during switching connections etc) .... so plz test this one out before dismissing it. If it works, use GP to deploy out the setting and you'll be cooking on gas I've gone for this: Also, get Office 2007 updated to SP2 (along with any hotfixes) to try and minimise the problems. Despite looking nice, Outlook seems to be pretty riddled with bugs and stuff when connecting in with an Exchange account. Cheers
  18. Made up a Win7 SP1 SCCM OS deployment with no issues a week or two ago. Works a treat. Havent found anything wrong with it. Everything seems to deploy as it should. For reference, using SCCM 2007 SP2 with R3, PXE booted TS advertised creation of a reference build image, and deployed via PXE TS advertisement. EDIT: I'm yet to update existing RTM machines with SP1 for the moment (still need to engage brain with how to really get the updates working correctly/maintainance windows/etc). Cheers Nath
  19. You might find its because of this: A "Set Network Location" dialog box appears when you first log on to a domain-joined Windows 7-based client computer so you'll need to slipstream this into the WIM of wni7 Note that in Win7 SP1, it is already included Cheers Nath
  20. I assume you have injected them into the correct boot image etc? Also, as an idea, on another laptop of that model, see if its running in ACHI mode in the BIOS and change it to something else, and then boot that one to see if you can see the HDD then?
  21. Ignore my message... its not the same thing Any antispam or transport rules that might be causing it? Perhaps a stupid thought, but could it be a upstream provider thats stripping it for some reason? Can they confirm that they arent stripping it as it leaves them? Nath
  22. Of course, you both know that without the proper licensing [for Ghost] for those target machines - home or otherwise - that its illegal right? and especially so if your intending on using the volume Windows media in work instead of the correct OEM media :S Dont shoot the messenger however Am just pointing it out in case you / others arent aware A little idea though, as far as the OS goes, you could install the OEM of, say, Vista / 7 Home Premium in a VM, get it all updated and install the various runtimes and tools etc. Sysprep it and shutdown and then capture that image and clone it with some open source application and use that perhaps? With XP, using a automated and slipsteamed CD / DVD is relatively straight forward to make and use. Vista / 7 is a bit more involved, and so, havent really needed to try it yet (havent had the urge to get around to it). Just floating ideas there.... likely someone else can point out some better ways SUHK: you keep beating me to answering hehe Cheers Nath
  23. Iain.... difficult to explain but we've hit this sort of thing and made a workaround so it might work for you too. Create a Transport Rule that does this: Apply Rule to messages Sent to users that are 'Inside the organization' and when the 'Content-Type' contains 'related' Set 'Content-Type' with 'multipart/mixed' and see if that works for you. You might want to adjust it a bit more to narrow it down to your test, or possibly keep it disabled until just before you get one of the generated emails come through (assuming they are a scheduled thing). Of course, use at your own risk etc in case it destroys all your emails or some such weirdness Point 5 of sukh's post would be good to know the answer of, as thats how we were noticing it, and in Outlook itself, you'd have the paperclip icon next to the email but you wouldnt see anywhere where the attachment was, whereas if you logged into OWA, you could see it and access it fine. Happened on both Outlook 2007 and 2010 as i remember... Nath
  24. I've not timed ours but 3/4 mins sounds about right for winPE to boot on a 100Mb infra. You could potentially make up a USB flash pen with it on to boot it i guess if its a big concern. Nath.
  25. Sorry guys. I should have updated my findings. Also worked with Microsoft Support Services and got the same fix too I believe. As i'm sure you've all fathomed by now, but its updated CSC / Sync Center components that are included in SP1 for Win7. We found this hotfix (also combining this with a custom ADM that turns off Sparsely Caching for selective file extensions) to work out for the interim, but for the time being have just disabled offline files for all the network storage servers that arent host to offline files. The custom ADM in question, in case you were wondering, is: CLASS MACHINE CATEGORY "SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\NetCache" KEYNAME "SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\NetCache" POLICY "SparseExclusionList" PART "SparseExclusionList" EDITTEXT DEFAULT "*.doc;*.xls;*.ppt;*.vsd;*.tmp;*.pps;*.msi;*.mst;*.dot;*.opt;*.mpp;*.dts;*.vsmacros;*.mso;*.suo;*.msg;*.est;" VALUENAME "SparseExclusionList" END PART END POLICY END CATEGORY and, oddly, by setting it, you have to include all the extensions you want to continue to use sparsely caching, and remove the extensions you dont want. Ensure you test it out fully on a test machine / OU / GPO first if your going to try it to make sure its what your after as Im not sure [yet] what issues it might cause you, depending on your situation and what you want. Regards Nath
