I'm presuming Windows 10 due to the forum, but interested to know if it's a specific version... When you allowed your computers to do the latest updates (to see if there's a correlation) and if you actually allow driver updates? Also is it limited to HDMI, VGA, Display Port ? Using splitters? Dual output? Desktops only affected or laptops (with inbuilt screen) too? AMD or Intel GFX chipset?

Probably a rare one as a quick search on the internet yielded few results (and even less answers)... Every minute or so, it pops up saying something along the lines of: “This function is not available; switch from Quick Corner to H/V Keystone to perform this task.” But it doesn't have any information about what the 'task' is that it is trying to perform Now, pretty much all of our projectors are set-up with 'Quick Corners' in fact what a absolute winning function it is, I don't know if I could ever go back to 'Keystone' and I don't know how we ever managed before... I found one link to a question that was pretty much exactly the same issue, but didn't have any useful information... https://www.reddit.com/r/projectors/comments/q1kprj/why_does_this_message_keep_coming_up/ But when I set it to 'Keystone' it randomly jumps the screen a fraction at the same interval as the original message. So I think it is trying to H 'auto' adjust but even with this setting off, when going back to Quick Corners another very similar message comes up about V 'auto' adjust... again turning that setting off and going back to 'Quick Corners' doesn't stop the error message! I reset everything and turned off what I could, the 'auto' keystone setting gets greyed out when the image is flipped for ceiling projection so can't be 'turned off'. Although it's not the latest up-to-date model, it's modern enough to have so many 'image' options I end up going round in circles, unlike the old ones that literally had 'Keystone' and a manual focus ring and nothing else so you actually had to move the projector to get a decent image.... So I reluctantly set it to 'Keystone' and then it took about 10 minutes to try and get a half-decent image to even fit correctly on the whiteboard and not look too distorted (even then there is strip missing at the side that I just couldn't get to display). Anyone ever seen this message and know how to actually fix it?

I always type in 'con...' and it usually suggests the Control Panel (although sometimes still unhelpfully decides to suggest 'Settings')... Anyway then it's pinned to Start and Taskbar! It's also in Settings > System > About... (To get directly there, right-click 'Start' and choose 'System') then in full screen it's in the top right 'Related Setting' System Info (or scroll down to the bottom if in a window) and you can't get there by typing 'System Info'

Thanks, not sure of the exact settings to make that happen, at 'start-up' but delayed enough to make sure the OS is up and running and NICs are initialised for it to have the desired affect (also to rely on NETLOGON wouldn't the DC have to be up? The DCs are some of the VMs that are having the issue)? I was going to hijack someone's thread but it was probably a little too 'off-topic' and the post turned out a little longer than I planned so please forgive me if it's not worth creating a whole new thread (as I'm sure it's probably just me)... but last night I was struggling trying to work something out and I thought 'for $deity's sake, why is this so complicated for me?!' It maybe that I'm not a 'true' geek as I came to it later in life, I was never the science/math/computer geek at school (actually about as opposite as you could get)... in my youth and actually into my 30s I was more of a gamer (only getting interested in hardware/PC building in order to enable me to play bigger and better games)... Honestly, everyday is a struggle (which doesn't help my 'imposter syndrome')... Last night I decided I needed to get my backups sorted as since I moved the SIMS server onto a VM I've been relying on a basic server backup... we have Redstor software to do an off-site backup and that sits on the host (doing some other backups of data on the host). There is a section that 'should' enable me to backup from the now remote 'VM' but try as I might I couldn't get it to connect, then when I actually found the way to make it 'connect' it failed to do the backup.... As a last resort and although I tried to resist it, after a few hours I gave up and thought I could put an agent on the VM and just upload to the Redstor account... after a few failed attempts to even get the correct agent on the VM, I worked out which one it should be, but even the install dialogue was like reading a foreign language, I honestly couldn't understand what it was asking me to do (even basic things like what the 'account' name was, or the error message that said there was 'no room in the group'), so I gave up... I had a similar experience with the SIMS move to a VM, even installing SQL had so many options I didn't fully understand, I ended up just pressing next, next, next... I have also been 'forced' to install EntrySign (and Paxton Net2 onto the server - from an Admin machine where it was quite happy) and now everyday there is an issue where it won't open the door, which is now my problem as it's on the server... but looking through I can see services not started and doors not connected, but I've no idea why... of course as this affects everyone I get multiple comments about it which is annoying.... I 'think' I've narrowed it down to an error now about a service which has created an Event Log that cannot be read by the system, but I can't be sure because it's really helpful name is: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventLog\${appsetting:name=AppName}\${appsetting:name=AppName} Things like this and Veeam, Groupcall and a few others, have introduced errors on my server that I can never get to the bottom of and resolve... To make matters worse after the windows Update on the Servers last night, half of them came back up on a 'Public' network (instead of 'Domain') which I thought I'd sorted until I realised that I actually needed to go into each VM and manually reset the disable/enable the NIC... So I've had 8 hours of no DCs.... We are also moving to Google Workspace (not my choice), which means I have got a vertical learning curve, having never really used it before and will now have pretty much the whole school knocking on my door if anything goes wrong... I don't want to go through everything that's been dumped on me in the last 3 weeks, plus all the day to day (like laptops drenched in tea etc.) and I know there are a couple of other threads about this start of the year being bad for a few of us... So I just wanted to thank the edugeek community who can usually help and without whom I probably wouldn't even have this job...

Not personally, 'we' (by that I mean SLT) have just decided to 'go Google/GMail'.... I'm sure that will be fun managing my 6 email accounts in a GMail interface that looks like it was designed in the late 80s for 5 year old children (reminds me of Yahoo *shudder*), annoyingly I can't seem to manage to get GMail accounts into Outlook (LTSC 2021)... @TwistedHelixis Did you ever find a better solution? I did the Windows Updates for all our servers last night and it quickly reminded me that I should have sorted this out!!! My problem is similar to yours (all server 2019, DCs, VMs and Hosts, etc.) however all mine default to 'Public'... Luckily I have a VPN solution and I worked out that for the hosts I can log into the Network Switch they are on and can disable/enable the ports which seems to bring them back on Domain. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to work for the VMs... last night I just pinged them all and as they replied I thought that was the job done... this morning when I got to work I tried to RDP and couldn't connect... that's when I knew. All I do is go in through Hyper-V Manager, disable/enable the NIC on each VM and they pick up the Domain instantly, why can't they do that on reboot?! I guess it isn't a massive problem otherwise there would have been a fix by now (and a lot more gnashing of teeth/crying/wailing on t'internet), I wonder if it's more to do with our server/network set-up or something....? Anyway, if nobody has found a permanent fix, could you please share the settings for your task?

Interested in this (not the Mosyle free debate) but the Renaissance Learning/Accelerated Reader part... We had a teacher in our Year 3 who deals with this software as part of their Head of English/Literacy role who had a similar complaint. Although we don't use the app and have a 'webclip' for Safari to use the web version, it seems that although most of the site works OK, there is a particular test they do which will not load. I advised her to email a contact (Customer Enablement Specialist) who sent us an email earlier in the year about the site upgrade to see if that was anything to do with it and if it was, is there any way around it (I haven't chased up if they ever replied). These are also older iPads (the last year group to replace), but luckily we have an ICT suite, so any teachers in that Year Group who need to do that test (which I don't think is done that often) can book it for a lesson.

Many thanks, I had looked at many previous posts from knowledgeable Edugeeks (including some from yourself), but most were concerned with getting data into Excel and using Macros etc. In any case it seems a way over complicated process for what it actually does... I don't actually use SIMS so any explanation about the report creation process will probably go over my head, but I did look on the user's computer and found the document in question... There are two actually: ReportForm.rtf and ReportOutput.rtf ReportForm.rtf seems to be the template and looks like this... The ReportOutput.rtf is the same but obviously filled in with pupil details. These were both in the user's 'Documents' folder on their PC (in the 'tempSimsRpt' folder). Would it just be simple case of amending the date in the page title of the .rtf document and saving it?

Some of you may or may not have read recent posts from myself regarding the 'consultant' that has been brought in by the Headteacher to aid in the delivery of the computing curriculum... and how this has quickly escalated into a complete change in our IT environment (i.e. it was decided in a 20 minute conversation that we would start moving everything to Google Workspace)! So, this weekend the consultant has decided to migrate the Headmaster and Admin email from Outlook to GMail... I have walked in this morning to a message from the consultant saying that they could only transfer 1 year's worth of email on the Admin account (as it got 'stuck' going any further back), I'm unaware of the status of the Head's email, but I can tell you (although I'm sure you know) this will be unacceptable. These are the main 2 email accounts for all school business, advertised on compliment slips, website, etc... How can this be fixed...? Does this impact anything (SAR requests, proof of anything over a year old)?

The procedure in the instructions I linked, doesn't appear to be a 'backup' of the whole Net2 system as such, it just seems to say that it is copying the 'database' which you can restore to the new computer. "Using the Net2 Server Configuration Utility, go to the Database tab and click the Create Copy button. This creates a copy of this existing database into a Zip file." Maybe there's a terminology mix-up somewhere, or you know of a different procedure for doing a backup to include all the other relevant files?

I'm always wary of answers that say 'it's easy, just do this'.... I should know by now, that for some reason it rarely is... Well, after a bit of a battle, a roll back, a reinstall and a restart (annoying as it meant I had to remote in last night after everyone had gone home and then wait until all the backups had finished to do it... ) I finally got it installed on another server... Was it this bit? "Changing the Net2 PC Site specific Net2 Files All of the files containing the site-specific information in a Net2 system are stored in a single folder. This contains all user and door details, events, reports, pictures and back-ups. The default folder for this information is C:\Net2 Access Control. I'm sure I've posted on here about it before (and I wish now I'd kept the CCTV footage).... But late one night one of my dogs (who had an upset tummy) was whining to go out, the OH put on her dressing gown to let him out and followed him up the garden. At the end of the garden is a fence and a gate leading onto our driveway, by some weird twist of fate a ne'er-do-well was walking down the street trying all the door handles of the cars and as the OH reached the fence he tried the boot of our car... it opened... and then he came around and tried the door... and then he started rummaging about in the glove box etc. The OH heard it, looked through the fence and saw what was happening, so she started shouting and banging on the fence and obviously the guy did a runner (hopefully off to change his pants and give up his life of crime)... we worked out she had her car keys in her dressing gown pocket!

Yes, I did skim past a search result link that apparently showed an Air tag being tracked across the world! I think Tile work on a similar principle to Air tags: "In the unlucky event that your car gets towed or stolen, you can count on the global Tile Network to have your back. Could be the unlucky person to have your car stuck at the back of a dirt track or field where nobody really goes and probably even less likely to find someone with the tile app than an iPhone?

With a general 'move everything to the cloud' feeling percolating through education and it slowly encroaching into my school, I have dropped the 'what if the internet breaks?' question into every discussion... More pertinent than ever now as the latest is whether to move to Bromcom or Arbor so this thread is interesting and it seems not only to be a question of 'what if the internet breaks?', but 'what if the MIS platform breaks?'... The answer I get is that there should always be a hard copy of these things (locked away but still available anyway as detailed in the DR plan), is that right?

I have a tenant, literally built on 'free' A1+ licenses... is this going to disappear/become unlicensed...? Or does it mean it is no longer going to be 'offered' to new subscriptions as a license option?

Ah, now actually that's a good point... I guess she does have her phone on her whilst running, so I might have been missing that point, thanks! I did see Apple Air Tags and I've got to say I'm a bit confused on the technology... I thought they were Bluetooth and relied on being close, or apparently anyone with an Apple device being close? Also, although I have an iPhone, it's quite old (5S) so not sure on the compatibility side of things. Yeah an awful lot on Amazon, but looking for a positive 'I've got this one and it's brilliant' edugeek review rather than rely on the internet! So my point was if my OH can click a button on her (£150?) watch and I can get an email that links me to map where I can see her run round the park 20 times, with none of the other SIM, pay monthly, network data fees, app download shenanigans... why isn't that thing available as a vehicle tracker... or is it?

Yeah, from what I gathered she had tried that. I did go to see her at the end of the day and in her section of reports she now has reports titled 'Staff 2020', 'Staff 2021', 'Staff 2022' and one just 'Staff'... However when she runs the report, the Word document always has the title 'Staff 2019'....? I don't think the name (title) of the report in SIMS has any bearing on the output title of the page in the Word document is, I think that is only internal to SIMS so you can see what report you are running. I presume the report takes the details from SIMS and fills them in on a 'template' RTF document output to Word. I think it's this 'template' that has the heading (title) 'Staff 2019', but I don't know where that template is or how to change it.

Yes, could be the issue... I do have other VMs, but license wise (and host resource wise) I can't really justify having a VM spun up just to run Net2. I could possibly put it on one of the VMs I already have, but the purist in me likes the fact they are all split out for their own various roles and are quite slim. From what I saw of the Net2 software install it has quite a lot of 'stuff'. Adding SQL to these is just adding another load of updates and security holes to have to manage... I had checked previously (and the Paxton support checked) that the version we are on is supported on the Server OS, I think the only issue (mentioned in a post above) was the newer versions need to pass updated firmware to the controllers and that it could even cause issues (one or two threads on here about it). EDIT: I can't tell you how off I am with SLT for dropping this in at the beginning of term! Like I don't have enough to deal with already day to day! This is a job for the holidays, so we can test/troubleshoot and iron out all the kinks when nobody else is here...

There's been a few car thefts recently from my local area and it prompted me to look at a GPS tracker solution. Although I don't' think my car is high-risk (I guess a large, white, KIA SW isn't top on any criminal gang's wish list to chuck in a container and ship off to Dubai), there's always the chance the local yobs wouldn't be against taking it on the local new road and running it ragged, drifting round the roundabouts and doing donuts until it ends up in a ditch (which we hear them doing quite often late at night)... So, I thought I would just have a quick browse on t'internet... Obviously that's as much use as trying to Google a printer problem, there are thousands on the market and as usual all get both good and bad reviews, ranging from £5 to £500, powered by battery, wire in, OBD, using Apple Find My, VHF, SIM card (even using 2G networks which apparently are going to be switched off at some point?)... As well as up front cost, there's also ones that use a SIM card and pay-as-you-go, or monthly charges PLUS cost per call or network data usage costs... What a minefield! The thing that struck me is that my OH has a Garmin (I think) 'smart' watch which she uses to measure her running 'data' (time, distance, heart rate, even steps/movement and elevation, etc.), she has set it up to email me an alert when she starts and I can even follow the link to get a real time location and route on a map for when she is running a fair distance from home (it can even send a distress alert). I'm not saying it was cheap (I don't actually know how much it cost), but it's the size of a watch (obviously), runs on a (rechargeable) battery, and has a lot of other functions besides the GPS tracking. I don't know how it works, but don't think it uses a SIM card, doesn't have any monthly charges that I know of, doesn't need a 'phone number' that you have to text, is quite accurate on the GPS side of things and although the watch does have an app for the other data, the GPS tracking just shows on a map in a browser... What am I missing? Why isn't this tiny part of the watch (GPS function) available as a thing? Why does it have to be a £500 pound wire-in job for a car? Is there such a thing as a small-ish, battery operated, 'relatively' cheap one-off cost, non SIM card, no app to download, no monthly fee, GPS tracker solution?

Great! So, I just had a chat with Paxton support and... "...this code 0x84c5c74b doesnt actually come up in our knowledge base - it's not one we see commonly. But I googled it to find its related to SQL" I just wondered when I look through the install log it seems to reference installing SQL 2008, SQL 2012 and SQL 2014... is that right? As they stated they are not SQL experts and can't advise on it as such, only the Net2 software itself, so the only other advice was: "First try installing SQL separately from the included redist folder before trying Net2 again. If this still fails, uninstall Net2 and all SQL entries on the PC after checking nothing else is using SQL and try to reinstall Net2. If neither of the above steps work, they will need to install Net2 on a different computer." and the classic.... "reinstalling windows is known to resolve this." Unfortunately this is a big old server with many years on it (as it used to be the 'one' server) and many SQL instances already running or not being used anymore and having the OS been in-place upgraded a few times. I'm a bit wary of anything that will interrupt uptime as it's a prod server. It's also an ex-SIMS server with the install being kept in stasis for as long as I can until I am 100% sure we will never need it again (SIMS moved to a VM over the summer). It also runs a few other critical bits (Redstor, File Shares, HyperV). I guess it could also be FSRM, SRP, Applocker or Sophos...

Well, it will not install on my server (2019)! Unhelpful... 0x84c5c74b - Unspecified error Then when I tried to reinstall it said it was already installed and gave a 'repair' option. That failed with... 0x80070643 - Fatal error during installation Is it half-term yet? Time to go home...
