Just had a teacher bring an iPad that was in 'Guided Access' mode and asking for a passcode to exit... OK, so I read the instructions to triple click the 'Home' button and entered '123456' as a first guess and it let me quit (good job most KS2 children aren't that devious)... So obviously my question is how to remove this option (if possible). We use Meraki so I'm hoping somebody knows of an option is in there (because I'm not finding anything)...?

Bit of a strange request... feedback required! Does anyone here speak/understand fluent Welsh and like rock/alternative music (and can access Soundcloud or Youtube)...? I contribute to a music collaboration website called Wikiloops, where artists upload tracks of them singing/playing an instrument in any style/genre and others from around the world can join in and mix in their instrument. Although it's mostly 'amateurs' there is some amazing music on there with talented artists from around the world contributing and I can't recommend it enough if you want to 'jam' with other musicians but can't for whatever reason do it 'live'. Last night I came across a beautiful vocal track from a Welsh singer... it was originally more of a dirge/lament (?) I guess, with a definite 'celtic' flavour. Anyway the original track had the vocals, a drone in D and a basic drum beat at 60BPM. I took the vocals and added a new drum track, bass line and guitars and upped the BPM a little (although it's still a fairly slow track). Anyway, to my question... I had to do a bit of mixing, stretching/squashing, splicing, re-timing of the vocals (as well as upping the BPM) and once it was finished, I realised I had absolutely no idea what she was actually saying, so I just don't want to offend because I have no idea if I have messed around with the intonation/inflection/meaning or any other part of the language. Also if you can hear the vocals clearly enough in the mix to understand the words (although I do realise I have probably spoiled a beautiful naked vocal track anyway, so there's no need to mention that bit)... +1 for some kind of Mosquito type net. I'm not scared of anything we have here in the U.K., but I understand phobias in general and know that you can't help the reaction you have to things sometimes, so you have my sympathy. Even I cringed a bit when a friend who had been to Borneo said that at night a big beetle had found it's way into their room and they could actually hear it's footsteps on the tiled floor... I genuinely would seriously consider getting yourself some professional help though (aversion therapy? Easier said than done, I know) as being scared of things like falling off a building, or snakes etc. is unlikely to impact you greatly in general everyday life, moths on the other hand as you found out can be quite prolific in certain conditions... Lately I've been working on my music late into the night on the OH's work station (which is downstairs in the living room) with 2 big monitors. It has patio doors which in the heat I've left wide open and although we have one of those dangling type fly curtains the moths seem to be impervious to it (or they might not see it in the dark as they are so drawn to the light inside the room). I am regularly distracted by them fluttering around or dive bombing the monitors. The trouble is one of our dogs is quite the insect hunter (as I found out when she brought a big beetle in from the garden yesterday) so I have to flap about in the middle of the night trying to catch them before she does because she bounces around the room knocking everything over and then eats it!

Many thanks for confirming, that's along the lines of my initial guess too (hosting server not having correct certs) not as detailed or knowledgeable, but I was in the ball park... I'm not actively involved with this (but I'll pass the info on) as it's being dealt with by the member of staff who maintains the website, however I do like to keep my ear to the ground for if it ever gets dumped on my desk! I'm quite glad the receptionist phoned and said she was concerned about the message when trying to go to the website, at least some sort of cyber-security message is getting through. Although it does state in plain black and white it could be someone trying to hack you, so maybe just common sense, but even that's in short supply around here sometimes...

I noticed last night that one of my VMs has a Veeam Recovery Checkpoint, but it's showing in Hyper-V manager. I left it overnight in case I'd interrupted it doing something and it would merge itself away afterwards, but it's still there today... Honestly, I can't be sure how long it's been there as I don't look in the Hyper-V Manager application very often (or at all really unless there's a problem). Veeam is run on the HOST and I've looked in there for any errors and not found any mention of this checkpoint. In the backup history the last issues I had were in May and I guess it could have been there since, but it was a general Veeam issue and affected all the VMs, this is the only one with a checkpoint... Question are: Do I delete it and hope it merges? Can I just delete it without merging? Why is Hyper-V showing a Veeam checkpoint?

Well, we've been told the website is finally up, but we're getting this... Anybody know what the issue is?

They did ask about our postcode when support were called, I wonder if they group them on the server by location (or it's a form of lookup identification on their helpdesk/support system). Anyway, bit slow on the notification.... we got an email today that starts "As you will be aware, yesterday afternoon a fault appeared on the server hosting the Your School website.".... Apparently we weren't... ooops! Only found out when a teacher asked me why she couldn't get on to edit the website... So I checked the filtering... no, I checked Sophos... no, I checked their website for a status page...no, so I checked the actual school website... bingo... so I checked 'Is It Down Right Now'.... and it was! I'm sure we don't pay enough to get an instant failover to redundant hardware, but this is a Fasthosts issue, right? Surely someone who runs servers to host websites for a living knows how to backup/restore quickly and have configured their systems so they can... EDIT: My bad, apparently "the hardware has failover options"...

Anyone else got this problem? Apparently there is an issue with Windows on the server hosting it...

Sorry, are you saying that the settings are applied per the individual users preference (as in one user can set it to run everyday and another user can set it to never)... Yeah that adds up now I think about it, that's why there are no real in-depth settings unless you run it manually.... Also that it only runs when that user is logged on? So if nobody logs on (or logs on only briefly) it will probably never run no matter what it's set to? I guess it's not worth having it on in that case.... back to scheduled tasks it is then....

I have a Windows 10 VM that runs on the server for one application, obviously I haven't given it much in the way of resources and kept everything (RAM, disk space etc.) minimal/default. It recently complained about disk space so I enabled 'Storage Sense' with fairly strict settings (well as much as you can) and delete everything everyday. I've recently looked at the VM and it is complaining again... I've run 'Free up space now' and it has found 8.34GB in Windows Update Clean-up!!! I know this fills up as I don't run 'Storage Sense' on my home PCs as I did some housekeeping at the weekend and one of them had over 40GB in there... But does anyone know why this doesn't get cleaned up automagically?

Ah yeah, I got it now... I thought from the way I read your reply was that I needed to add more to the SQL allocation for the OS for some reason.... hence why I was confused, but re-reading now I can see that you meant don't allocate all the memory to SQL and leave some for the OS! I've got 32GB of RAM, I can't quite figure out how it's all been used up if I'm honest... but it's back down to acceptable levels now. Even restarting the SQL server service seems to have knocked it right down! Thanks I've gone for 4GB for now and see if either SQL, the server or the staff complain... Yes, unfortunately same old small school story, one physical server running everything! I've so far managed to move its DC role onto a VM and have another VM setup and ready to take SIMS but haven't managed to do the migration as yet (long story). So, currently one physical server running everything (SIMS, file shares, etc.) and 2 x VMs.

Thanks, I've looked in Server Management Studio and it's currently set to 2147483647MB (!)... Can anyone just sense check my calculations? My MDFs are: SIMS = 2,084,352KB ( ) 2000MB = 2.00GB FMS = 353,472KB (so roughly) 353MB = 0.35GB DISCOVER = 331,968KB ( ) 331MB = 0.33GB There are other MDFs in there (templog, solus, MSDB, model, master which add up to about 200MB) so, am I going to get away with 4GB (4096MB)...?

Awesome, many thanks! Is there anyone who could shed any light on the Voodoo that is SQL and what sort of figure I should be looking to allocate? Does it go on the DB size, amount of users, or some other unknown mystical algorithm? What DB should I be looking at (SIMS.mdf)? We use SIMS and FMS (also Discover - but not really in anger).

Wasn't sure where to put this, but I figure a lot of school I.T. personnel would have a knowledge of SQL through SIMS... I tried starting a VM today and got an 'out of memory' error! The (physical host) server has 32GB, which I know isn't a lot by todays standards but we're a small school. It hosts 2 VMs, but also runs SIMS and file shares, we are also running Sophos and have Redstor backup software (not ideal I know, but it's our only server). Anyway, from the screenshot below you can see most of the memory is used and it struck me (if I'm reading it right) that SQL has committed 7,672,948KB but is only using 342,188KB...? So, my question is obviously how to make sure SQL doesn't need that 7GB and how to limit it to a more reasonable figure?

What I did notice (prior to the deluge) was an infestation of biblical proportions of red spider mites! All my garden furniture, water butts, outside storage, shed... in fact almost every surface was absolutely covered in a blanket of them!

Just to update the 'solution'... From the link I posted above, there was a mention of some GPO pointing the machine in question to WSUS, so I thought I'd remove all potential issues from GPOs or WSUS. Took the machine off-domain and just tried simply adding the Windows Media Player back from 'Settings > Manage optional features > + Add a feature' ....and it worked first time!!!! It didn't appear in the basic 'optional features' list and had been pushed onto the next page. So all the downloading of extra N versions of 'Windows Media Feature Packs' and the DISM commands to install package/feature may well have worked too once it was off-domain...

Just for if (when) this happens again, I thought I'd come back and update how I fixed it. Yes, I had been told so was aware they were 'randomly generated' and we've been using it for a few years (surprised it wasn't a link to of mine where I was complaining about it though - as I am getting grumpier in my old age) so I think I had just 'sucked it up' and lived with it. That's twice in recent succession I've had those file types though, so not as 'random' as advertised...
