Bit of fun for a Friday afternoon... Actually doesn't have to be particularly strange, but I know you bunch of weirdos won't let me down (you can always say 'my friend' if it's particularly odd though)! I'll start and I'm OK admitting this one... My OH eats all the caramel off the top of a Twix and then eats the biscuit base.... I on the other hand bite off all the biscuit and then I'm left with all the caramel** (which is obviously the correct way to do it and the OH is just a bit weird).... A bit like eating all the sponge off a Jaffa Cake and then eating the orangey bit... Also the other day the OH left me to my own devices for dinner-time... unfortunately I couldn't be bothered to 'make' anything and reverted to true 'Men Behaving Badly' style cuisine... Spaghetti Carbonara on toast! 1 Carbonara ready-meal, microwaved and poured onto 2 slices of toast, covered in grated cheese with black pepper and a dash of BBQ sauce... it was actually lush (so much so, I have had it twice now)! **This is a copyrighted advertisement pitch and has already been sent to Mars Inc.

For a long time I drank tea (this was obviously my gateway drug as a youngster) and I guess I'd take it somewhere about 3.5.... Strange thing is I like it brewed strong but then with a lot of milk (sounds odd even as I'm saying it), oh and at least 3 sugars, as nobody asked.... rude! Anyway, then I seem to remember getting addicted to coffee for a long time, then had no preference for a while, then made the switch back to tea. More recently I switched back to coffee and have found a similar experience as with the tea, as I like it both milky AND strong... full cup of milk microwaved and a massive heaped spoonful of Nescafe Azera 'americano intense'... oh and I'm now down to 1 sweetener! So I guess there's a Latte feeling to it, but the thing is I have at least 15+ cups a day so without the milk it plays havoc with my insides.... It's actually all I drink on a daily basis (apart from maybe a lager or a JD and coke once in a blue moon)... Also I have actually really gone off tea!

Well, unfortunately this seems to have become an issue... again! I can't seem to get this sorted, due to many reasons I won't bore you with or rant about. However, once again the Headteacher has an issue with their Macbook and I think it might have something to do with the 'network location profile' I set-up. I created one for 'WORK' and set a static I.P. (subnet, gateway, DNS, WINS) and left the original 'automatic' one as is, so it can continue to be used as usual. Yesterday (?) they told me that over the holiday they couldn't connect to their home network (it would appear that this was the first time they tried this 'urgent requirement' since I set it up almost a month ago)... Anyway, on the Apple support page it describes one of the uses of 'network locations' to be "Your Mac isn't connecting to your network and you want to reset your network settings quickly for testing purposes, without losing your current network settings." https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT202480 This implies to me that everything configured in the settings for a 'network location profile' would be individual to that profile, but it appears things like DNS is global... As I set-up the 'WORK' network locations with all settings including our on-site DNS sever, it seems that when taken off-site and switched to 'Automatic' it still looks in the settings, doesn't find the DNS servers and fails. To work around this I have added in Google public DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 into the DNS settings along with our on-site DNS servers and presume it will search the list, but when on-site, will it continue to use Google DNS if it sees them in the list? I have a feeling I want it to use our DNS what with the static I.P. set-up, but what impact will it have it uses Google and ultimately does it matter? Should I have put anything in the DNS settings at all? I'd really like this to be the last time I have to deal with this....

Yes. NTP (advertises UTC) > DC (converts to DST) > CLIENT Although it might be a little more complicated than that... for instance all my clients have 'Adjust for daylight saving time automatically' set, but these don't take/add the extra hour from the time the DC is advertising... something clever to do with the fact that the server knows it is getting UTC (Type: NTP (Local)) time and the clients know it is getting DST (Type: NT5DS (Local)) - basically whatever the DC tells it the time is (which might negate the other settings on the client I've never tested it)...

Shame it's on Paramount+... I binge watched most of the first series with a free trial! For me honestly there are only a couple of series I wanted to watch on there (this, Discovery and Halo) and it's just not worth the extra sub after Virgin, Netflix, Prime, Disney+, Now TV....

The original set-up in our hall comprised of a computer attached to a set of powered classroom speakers. This was as simple as I thought I could possibly make it... put your PowerPoint on the network drive, sign on to the computer and off you go (alternatively play your YouTube clip). However, teachers wanted to use their laptops for some unknown reason, so a video splitter was installed (I also split the audio input)... So, now they could use a laptop or the computer and I would say most use their laptop now, but there are a few who use the computer that either don't have a laptop, don't want to bring it down to the hall, or use children to select music tracks or videos etc. Now the set-up has recently got a little more complicated due to the addition of a separate amp and speakers (long story). I'm trying to make it 'all things to all people' whilst being as simple as possible and... well, failing... Trying to avoid the 'because it's teachers' trope, but we are a small school with limited technical knowledge and things like using an amp and changing input, or this wire for these speakers, but this wire for these speakers is too much and I'm being called to deal with it in the middle of assemblies or rowdy P.E. lessons where the teacher isn't really listening to me as they have 30 kids running riot up and down the hall... Plus the 'amp & computer' side of things are locked away, so for visitors, or teachers that want 'the old way' can still plug in 1 cable, turn the small speakers on and do their lesson/assembly. Those who want the pumping bass and unnecessary volume can get the key and learn how to use the amp (which I know they won't be bothered to, so it's all good). So, I'm trying to simplify it further and have everything connected all the time. I've used a lot of splitters, but this creates loops and in a way this isn't a major problem as we aren't listening to classical music recitals and the loop actually means that the audio goes to both inputs on the amp, so they don't even need to press any buttons! I'm sure it degrades sound quality (and I haven't heard any interference, but I haven't tried every possible variation of input), although I don't think it's dangerous or anything like that. Anyway, to err on the side of caution (and hopefully improve quality/durability) I've searched for a 'box' that can do all the splitting internally... I've looked at mixers but most are overkill and add a further complication into the mix (also I need everything to be 3.5mm or RCA at a push and most small mixers that I saw don't have enough of those). For those who prefer a visual (or just found my explanation confusing - which it is, to be fair) luckily I am a master at MS Paint... As you can see the audio from the computer goes both down the blue wire into the amp (INPUT 2), but also goes up the blue wire to the speakers AND down the green wire (from the splitter) to the amp (INPUT 1). This probably happens from the laptop too, but I haven't tested as I can rarely get '5 minutes alone' in there (which may become my song of choice for testing)...

For us it was uBlock Origin, I thought I had turned it off for that site... maybe something has changed on their end and the original I.P./URL whitelist needed refreshing, so I just unblocked it again and it seems OK. Try your web blocking/filtering solution if it's tied to a particular Chrome user group (as uBlock is set by GPO for users here).

Yes, I had seen that. I just presumed it might be configurable...? As in you could keep it on a bit longer when the temperature drops in the loft as it was heating the air it was blowing out a bit. Seems a bit odd (if not pointless) if it is going to shut off on cold nights when the condensation would be bad and you need it on...

Strange... same here. OK in a Chrome incognito mode window (Edge and Firefox too)... I'm not sure why my teachers haven't been banging on my door yet, guess they aren't signing in to their browsers... again!

I think others have intercepted the recommended electrical supply (fused spur) and have it on a timer. We only get condensation on the windows overnight really so could have it set to only run then...?

The heater would prevent this though, I thought that might have been the point of it?

We had a bit of a mixed bag changing over to an LGfL I.P. subnet... Initially my knee-jerk reaction was no (as it would cost us an extra 3rd part support fee to get all the switches and VLANS reconfigured), but was told there was no other option. Then there was some discussion about double NAT (or something), then it turned out it might have been possible to keep our existing ranges ANYWAY... Unfortunately we had already 'bit the bullet' agreed the change and contracted the support. YMMV but if you are supporting the school, see if the school can link you to LGfL/Adept/Atomwide (whatever they're called now) so you can get on board with the discussions.

Isn't this possibly something LSASS has to do? I'm talking out of my a$$ here obviously as I'm no expert, but from the little I know isn't LSASS a security process? I can only imagine in more recent iterations of Windows Server, this has got more and more 'hardened' with much more emphasis being put on the security of user accounts because so many threats try to attack targeting credentials. On the other hand if it's only doing this at boot... does it run fine after that? How many times is it going to need to reboot?

Never had any trouble with Cisco AnyConnect and VM, we use it via the LGfL offering. Having said that I'm never really doing much with it (apart from poking stuff around the servers) and mostly doing it in the evenings... Do you know if your BD2 uses pre or post-auth...? Presuming you've tried all the usual like wired vs. Wi-Fi as you are pointing in the direction of VM. What are pings like? What are speed tests like? Both connected to the VPN and not? I've never really got a handle on how VPNs 'really' work... but the OH WFH and has a work laptop, which uses a USB C 'dock' and I wired that via ethernet directly to the hub just to discount any Wi-Fi issues because it used to have very slow times, I think it uses the Windows AOVPN. I wondered then if it is basically like being 'in the office' and any outward comms are then affected by internal processing/congestion as well as the hops to get the data back to the client...

Looking at the heated version, because our house is cold already and I'm apparently a 'scrooge' with the heating... don't really want to start blasting cold loft air in as well. But is it really worth another £200...? Not sure I can justify that, but these days turning the heating up would soon cost the equivalent!

Obviously feel sad for his family and friends, but the work he did promoting Battersea dogs and cats home will be sorely missed by many.

OP says they have also tried using a 8GB with 4 processor setup. I think it's going to be one of those situations where it might not be the best way to do it, or it might not be the best practise and there may be a whole new better way to do it, if you forget everything you know and completely change everything about the entire process, that's got to be tough. I think it we've all had those times where something that's worked just fine for 10 years suddenly doesn't work anymore for no 'apparent' reason thanks to some kind of 'progress' and it's mind blowing... So the only way to get over it is to try and understand why... EDIT: Probably not what you want to hear given the above, but if you are just trying to get away from Server 2012R2 due to its EOL, did you try 2016 (although I think anything based off a newer OS might give you the same issues as it's obviously doing something very differently from the OS 2012 is based on)?

EDIT: Just to add, I wonder if you'd be able to easily find anything other than enterprise/server class SAS drives doing 6Gbps, 15K, 10bits (not the specs for your drives I know)...? Also, can I ask the OP why a 4 disk RAID 1 array, that doesn't make sense does it?

The solution is as follows: check the flag Full control for the user or user group in the section ‘share permission’. This prevents from folder creation. Of course, folder privileges are granted via NTFS permissions. Which is a bit of a confusing answer and the 'share permission' already has 'Everyone' as 'Full Control'... So it must be in NTFS/Security permissions... Thing is, where do I add the user...? To the root of each share I think they will need (and with what permissions - does it need 'Full Control' or will it be OK with 'Modify' etc.)?

What make/model did you get (did you get a heated version)? How big is your house? How did you wire it up? Where is the placement of the vent in the house?

Thanks, we had the 'create back-up' and any 'Auto-Save' features off and this stopped the folders appearing automatically, but the manual edit/save still does it. I remember researching a fair bit when it first happened, but that was a while ago and I've messed around with the shares recently so might be I've missed a permission somewhere. When you say: What are we talking here, 'Full Control' permissions for the individual user at the root of the share?

Just to add, we decided he would copy the files to his MacBook and edit them there, once finalised he could then just copy them over to the server...
