Unfortunately they have tried to change the title (name) of the report in SIMS and a few other things, but the report still comes out with the same title. There is on the final page a of the report designer a section that apparently mentions a 'template', my (uneducated) guess is the actual Word document is getting its 'title' from there rather than whatever the 'report' is called in SIMS.... but I don't know where templates are stored.

Unfortunately (or fortunately) I don't use SIMS, but as it's 'technology' (debatable) I'm still the first person they call if anyone has any issues with it, I mean I can install the whole SIMS server, but I've never logged on and used it in anger... Anyway, one of our admin staff on reception has tried to run a report which outputs in Word and the report has a 'title' I think with a date on 'REPORT 2019'. She told me over the phone what she was doing and I think it may be coming from a template (SIMS temp in 'My Documents'), but she rang back and said she couldn't find anything to change (or couldn't change it, or something that ended with 'I'm not very good with computers'.... but I'd given up listening as I've got a million other things on at the moment and it's low on my list - this new school year really is the gift that keeps on giving, right?!). So does anyone know where this Word document is getting the template from (if I'm right) or if it's something in the setting of the report and how to change it to what she wants...?

Thanks anyway! Not entirely sure myself... as I say all that side of things is managed by admin/finance/reception staff and that's what they told me it was for! I will have to investigate further I guess...

Thanks all! I did have a nice chat with Paxton support and they gave me a link for the version we are currently on (better the devil you know)... One last question (ha ha ha I very much doubt that), there's two folders 'INSTALL' and 'OEM' both have set-up files in them, I'm presuming just the 'INSTALL' folder.... probably obvious, but I don't want to mess it up!

Well, it might have just gotten a bit more complicated anyway! I presume whoever installed the whole set-up for us used an 'installer' copy of the software.... and didn't leave us with a copy!

A very similar post to my Paxton Net2 post, but if you have read it please excuse the copy/paste... A very, very long time ago Parent Pay SIMS auto-link software was installed on to an Admin PC in the office. It hasn't caused any issues for years but recently we have had complaints that it isn't doing the sync. This means that until the Admin computer is turned on (or possibly logged-in to) in the morning the SIMS auto-link software can't communicate with Parent Pay, quite soon we will be getting everyone to use Parent Mail/Parent Pay more extensively and trying to reduce the amount of paper letters sent home. I can't remember the reason SIMS auto-link software wasn't installed on the server, probably a combination of not wanting extra software on the server and the fact that it was being run by the Admin dept. in Reception and any changes to the link software would mean they would have to log on to the server to change. If I've got that wrong, please enlighten me... Anyway, move the auto-link software from PC to Server as is... any chance? Or is it a complete uninstall/reinstall, generate new links, firewall, etc.

New post due to not getting any replies on previous, also slightly different question... Originally I had a server doing everything, now I have made it a host with VMs and divided up the roles. One of these VMs is the SIMS server. The physical host still has the Redstor software (for off-site backup) as it is still the file share server for now and is also the chonky, fat, physical server (the SIMS VM is reasonably slim). I cannot manage to get the Redstor software to backup the SIMS databases from the (remote) VM. The SIMS modules seem to allow you to connect to a remote server/database, but although it seems to be able to see them, it doesn't complete the backup and I am going round in circles trying to troubleshoot. Also that the 'SIMS shared' and 'SIMS Documents' section only seem to allow local paths and it seems to be looking for its settings from a SIMS.ini on the local computer (looking for DBAttach) which should all be executed on the remote (VM)... I don't really understand why it seems to be giving me the option of backing up a remote SIMS server, but then not really making it very easy, or not having the options to do the all the parts it says it should. I don't really want to clutter up the SIMS VM with extra software and Redstor seems to hog nearly 2 GIG of RAM and needs extra disk space to make copies of what it's backing up... so if I put it on the SIMS server I believe it would then need to remote back to the file share server and pull 50+ GIG of files over to upload... Does anyone know if I can do any kind of workaround? The SIMS server (VM) does a backup itself (and zips it), but I don't know if it would be an option to just pick that up and upload it as we are on a limited license and data plan for Redstor and it seems to do VSS, compression and change tracking which might be thrown of uploading a zipped file as it might see it as a different file each time and upload the whole thing (and quickly eat up our allowance)... plus this doesn't include SIMS shared and SIMS Documents...

Not sure, but I think you are doing the exact opposite to what I want...? I am using Microsoft Office LTSC Professional Plus 2021 (as in the program installed on a computer as part of Microsoft Office) and I want to access GMail through that. So, it's Outlook that needs to access GMail, not the other way round.

I am having trouble adding my GMail account to Outlook and have read various how-to/troubleshooting guides about enabling IMAP and such but still no luck. Then I read that Google is actually stopping access somehow to Outlook version 2016 and below... also I thought I read something about 2FA, but I don't think it said explicitly that you HAD to use it, just that it was a troubleshooting step...? There was also something about creating app passwords, thing is it isn't even getting to the point of asking for a password so I'm not sure that would help...

Well, I've 'fixed' it, but I'm not really happy with the workaround I've found and I don't actually know if it will work until the backup kicks off... but I'll detail it here so I can search for it when it stops working and I've forgotten why... I logged the firewall when the connection attempt was made and it produced the following (redacted content): It appeared that the Redstor server (XX.X.XXX.1) was trying to make the request on random TCP ports, but the SIMS server (XX.X.XXX.2) was always listening on the same TCP port (60392). Nothing on UDP for some reason... So, I created the rule on the SIMS server to allow that as a TCP local port from any remote port and it worked... but only if I dumbed it down so much it doesn't really seem secure! It always failed when I tried to configure it with: 'Allow the connection if it is secure' (any of the settings in there - so I just had to set 'Allow the connection'), 'Remote Computers, Scope (Local Computers - although it allowed 'Remote IP Address')... I didn't bother with 'Remote Users' or 'Local Principals'. To be fair I don't actually know what most of them infer by local or remote.... Any way, I'll see if it works and if it does I'll run another check when the servers reboot at any point to see if it picks another port... unless someone comes up with a better/easier solution.

We've had Redstore for a few years now as a remote/offsite backup solution. After making a few changes to our set-up over the holidays I need to find the ports to allow in the firewall. Basically the server that Redstor is installed on used to be the 'ONE SERVER' that all small Primaries seem to have (it still is, but now it's mostly a host and the majority of the roles are split out on to VMs) and I don't want to uninstall it and reinstall it onto the SIMS VM as it also backs up a few big file shares still on the host.. Anyway, so when I add the SIMS server into Redstor it complains that it can't connect, however when I turn the firewall off on the SIMS server it can... Unfortunately I can't find what I need to add into the rules on the firewall to allow it. I did find a random reference to UDP 1434 in the troubleshooting, so I tried adding a rule to allow it (and tried every setting in that rule) but it still didn't work... The other troubleshooting tips were way over my head about settings static ports in SQL etc. I'm not going to start following guides I don't understand as I really, really don't need SIMS to stop working on top of all the other stress I've had since school started (and turning the firewall off works, so it's got to be that)!

Thanks to those that responded via PM, unfortunately it's just confirmed that we did already know the default, but it seems the engineer that installed it took it upon themselves to change it for some unknown reason.... Probably knowing that if we ever had a problem it would cost us to get them to come back and sort it out... Talking of which the company that put it in have apparently changed and so have the personnel probably. The BM has emailed the company (now SCUTUM I believe) and they want £180 +vat (and a call out charge) to send someone to log us in!!! EDIT: Messing with passwords in an SQL database might be trivial for some... also I've always thought that it could cause serious issues (although mostly that's when the subject has been SIMS)? EDIT 2: Reading the supplied PDF it appears that changing the 'default' on installation is a security 'feature'...

EDIT: Unfortunately, it's NOT the default! We are trying to get our Paxton Net2 door entry system integrated with our EntrySign system and have been asked by EntrySign to provide Paxton Net2 server I.P. address and the System Engineer password. The Paxton Net2 'server' is just the reception computer it is running on I guess, but we are having trouble finding the 'System Engineer' password. I don't have anything to do with it as it was purchased without me being involved and installed by a 3rd party contractor. Unfortunately it was quite a few years ago now, the person who was involved with it doesn't really remember any of the details or who actually installed it... So I guess we need to find out how to log on as a 'System Engineer'... is that actually an account/username and is that the syntax to use on the log-in page? Also is there a default password? The 'user' believes they know that, but I'm not sure they have the correct username format? EDIT: Just to add, I'm obviously not asking anyone to post 'default username/password' combinations, PM is fine...

Ah good shout and well spotted... I meant DHCP not DNS... Anyway, interesting... as I don't have a clue (which you might have guessed from my original post) I ended up doing a 'show running-config' that I found from another forum. Scrolling through I found a section on DHCP with a part showing 'ip dhcp excluded-address' However, the VLAN (SERVERS/PRINTERS) I am looking at isn't in that list, nor does it appear in the next section detailing each 'ip dhcp pool'... Do I take it that this VLAN is excluded completely (or alternatively is not included) in DHCP and so all I.P. addresses within it are only available for static assignment?

We have a Cisco 3750 and it handles DNS for us (set up before I started here). I need to patch in a new device and it has to have a static I.P. and I seem to remember being told that the first & last 10 I.P.s in any VLAN range are available for static assignment. I need to verify this now as this device will take up the last 'static' I.P. I think I can use. I'm looking to Putty in and CLI, so I need to know the syntax for the commands that mean I can view the config of the VLAN (or specifically where it gives the info I need). Any other easier way to do this also welcome...

Thanks all, seems it wasn't that... unfortunately the message I got was garbled and rushed due to time pressure. Doesn't help the teacher isn't very I.T. literate and it got passed through to me via a few other people! They were trying to access a Google Form, but it turns out it was sent as a Hyperlink in a Word document (why?) and it was Word/Office that is giving them the following error: Your organization’s policies are preventing us from completing this action for you. I don't remember setting a GPO for Word/Office 2016 to prevent them opening Hyperlinks, so if anyone knows what's happening there please let me know (or I'll just start another thread). Thing is I do have a hazy memory of doing something in the Google settings that actually limits any kind of data sharing with any other domain, I can't for the life of me remember where it is though!

A few years ago during Covid I set-up a Google Workspace (GSuite) tenant for our school to enable distance learning. With my limited knowledge I locked down everything I could possibly find. After lockdown it didn't get used and I pretty much forgot all about it, now for reasons I don't have time to go into here I need to allow the children to access a link to a 'Google Form' which I believe is hosted in another Domain. However the children can't access it and I believe I would have purposefully made it so they couldn't, now I need to undo that but I'm struggling to find the settings I would have used back then.... I have pushed this back to the 'consultant' the school has hired to deliver the computing curriculum who has insisted on everything Google, but they haven't fixed it and the first lesson to use this Google Form is a t 11:45.... Help!

I am thanks (apart from being overworked/underpaid/expected to deal with this sort of thing at short notice with no due process... but that's a lot of schools I.T. I guess), hope you are too... Thanks for your reply, of course I don't mind you replying and I'm sure nobody else does either (as a supplier it is only right and fair that you be able to openly reply to queries and give support here and it's good for you to do so imho). So, here's the thing (again only in my opinion)... Once you have sold the 'new shiny thing' to the SLT the very next thing would be to actively secure the contact information of the team that will from that moment on be responsible for it. Not sure about other schools, but I can guarantee you here it will NOT be the SLT, it will be Site team and I.T team. As you give the portal access to the procurement lead (SLT/BM) those who actually need the information could possibly be left out of the loop or will just have to supply the SLT the required information instead of being able to provide it directly. Bearing that in mind we did not get the 'holiday' installation we required due to the delay in collating and sending all the data, we are now having the disruption of a mid-week, school time installation... Unfortunately we do not have a preferred solution, there is no remote access allowed apart from a commercial VPN solution, with users (actually just me) provisioned from an integration and requiring 2FA. Yes, I'll hold my hands up I have since been informed (from this or another similar thread) that is the case, but obviously I wasn't informed it was (due to the fact that I'm not directly involved)... I was just emailed by the SLT to send them all the details (as I was on holiday). Well unfortunately I've been busy over the 'holidays' and with the start of term and I've only just been informed the installation is mid-week (next week) and I can tell you now there is no power and no data socket installed so far (therefore no patching done as I don't know where the cabling is going as my site agent is on holiday)...

So, just to close the loop... After 2 days of messing about with GPOs and Sophos, trying all sorts of settings at breaks and lunchtimes and after school, reboots, logging off and on as admin and then the user, remoting in and checking through event logs and device manager I had a eureka moment followed by a moment. Whilst remoting on (obviously as admin) I could see the visualiser display in the software, I hit a button called 'side by side' and this then showed the visualiser and the laptop webcam image. So then when I logged in as the user I tried that... no visualiser but also no webcam, tried to open the webcam in VLC and Zoom... no webcam... Well that's not a USB issues at all then is it... that's a general 'camera' issue... yep, you guessed it! Settings > Privacy > Camera > Allow apps to access your camera > Off... Is it half-term yet...?

If you find out why, please report back.... I have been trying to disable it for a while now!
