  1. Congrats to all three of you
  2. We had a teacher's car with the lights/radio left on, the problem was it was a MK4 Golf TDI, so needed a fair bit of juice to turn it over, so we tried to jump start it. The science tech tried first with some "tool kit for your boot" thing her mother had bought her, the cables were the most lightweight things i'd ever seen! So we buttonholed the next person to come out (the DH) and asked if he had any jump leads. He pulled a set out of the boot of his car that could easily have got the QE2 fired up from cold, which apparently were bought by the wife from a farmer's co-op. These had it started in two minutes, and i've been looking for a set ever since
  3. A few of our best: 1: While covering a games lesson the maths teacher thew the ball in for a line out, and off popped his wedding ring... 3 hours later, and after the site supervisor ringing around everyone he knew for a metal detector (including the fire service, BT and Welsh Water, and using the supervisor's pipe/cable detector), and having subdivided the field in to strips for searching, at the end of the final strip we found the ring (along with 37 1/2p, 2/6 and three groats and a gas main) 2: Not long after starting here, for some young enterprise day, the site supervisor and I were dispatched to a farm to collect some big square bales on a trailer. Luckily the site supervisor owns a pickup truck, and we needed it as big square bales weigh about a third of a tonne. It took 8 of us to lift/drag each one when we got back (the were loaded by a telehandler), including the maths teacher from above. Once we'd emptied the trailer, the site supervisor says "can you take the trailer back?".... ... cue me working out if I was legal to tow this thing (with an empty trailer I was), and then driving a pickup truck i'd never touched before, with a trailer hanging off the back, through town, on market day, at rush hour. That was fun...
  4. KVM Switch seconded, but what's the what with mac compatability on them?
  5. We use fibre for our interconnects, but I can see nowt wrong with a gigabit copper armoured/trunked cat6 if your in a hurry. Worst comes to the worst you can use the pullthrough string to install fibre later.
  6. Our town has gone for this, and the local 'group' hold their meetings in our hall. Turout isn't fantastic...
  7. PM member ahuxham, he has a wonderful script for making cubase work
  8. Erm, have you ever tried to recieve AM on your car radio? There's more electrical interference from a car engine than anything else
  9. You think that's low, try taking another 2k off..

There's a simple answer to that, MS just hate me.... I'm planning to investigate why things are fecking up over the half term, my current thought is iffy drivers on the images, so a clean SP2 install followed by fresh drivers might sort it.

I have SP3 on a load of systems, it's only managed to "break" two types, a set of fujitsu siemens amilo Pro laptops and the music dept's HP DC5150 SFFs, so these have been rolled back to SP2 for now

Try uninstalling SP3, I've had no end of issues with SP3 and USB

    Are you using XP SP3?

    SP3 Reboot Prob

What make/model is the system? Try removing all USB peripherals from the system and see what happens. We had an issue with our fujitsu-siemens laptops and SP3 that made them BSOD and reboot when anything USB was connected. Taking all of the USB kit off and uninstalling SP3 would fix it.
  15. 5k under market price, can't view and payment by money transfer? About as honest as a 9 pound note, would you send someone thousands of pounds cash after looking at an ad in the paper? I would avoid like BSF Nowt wrong with buying a car off ebay though, as long as you remember the usual car buying things of test drive, inspection, service history etc. Just because it's ebay doesn't make it any different than looking at a car at an actual car auction (you'd be better off there actually, some amazing bargains if you know your stuff)

  17. Can't see it here
  18. I've deployed it today, might give SP3 a go over summer, possibly with a fresh image.
  19. Fortunately it's not that, as I've had 3 laptops with the same issue, two triggered by plugging in in the activboard, and one that did it with a bog standard HP optical mouse. It seems that SP3 is changing the USB mouse/HID device drivers somehow, and the laptops are throwing a fit because of it.
  20. I've just had a Fujitsu Siemens laptop running XP SP3 with a strange problem, every time you would plug in the USB lead for the Promethean proActiv board, it would bluescreen immediately. Uninstalling SP3 seems to have cleared it, has anoyone else had this issue?
  21. Being a school my money was on LDV, quite possibly the slowest mode of transport known to man...
  22. The kits work very well, AS LONG AS YOU DON'T PLUG THEM IN TO SURGE PROTECTORS! These usually contain filters which have a nice habit of filtering out the network signal along with electrical nasties. The technology's sound, as it's basically sending a modified Wi-Fi signal down the cable, and as long as all your points are connected to the same fusebox/distro board you should be fine. Also electricity meters dampen the signal, so you won't be backfeeding your network signal to next door...
  23. I would concurr that they're probably saving to the wrong place. Have you experienced this problem yourself?
