  1. Not too bad at all, I've never taken a car up the strip myself, I'd probably burn the clutch out
  2. Niiice, what time did you run?
  3. Thanks for the heads up, I'll pass it on On another note, WTF can't I find my balljoint seperator? Looks like I'll have to get another one, requiring another 20-mile drive to the motor factors...
  4. Looks like a mate of mine's managed to bend his MK2 Golf, if anyone happens to have any front end bits (preferably in maroon) in the West Mids/North West England/North Wales area could they PM/email me? It's a long shot but I might as well start here
  5. I've got a stack of new machines arriving with vista business on them, will these work with my 2003 GPOs or is it best to downgrade to XP?
  6. Hmmm, have you tried another power supply? Or another battery? Or a Priest? It could be that the plug/AC lead is "iffy" and that the way it's plugged in in your office is ok, whereas other places aren't. Have you tried it at home/another building?
  7. My first port of call is the PSU every time, after that's been proven good I check the mobo
  8. Does anyone know if there's software available to view CPU/Case temps on HP ProLiants? All this talk of death and awfulness is making me worry
  9. Think about it, you'd need all those techie-types to mount a counter offensive, and as we know, no tech can live long without tea or coffee...
  10. The prob is that this wall is rather thick (I'm convinced it's been designed to withstand a direct nuclear strike by the USSR or somthing), the caretaker does have a plan though, so we might be able to put in a standard cable. Thanks for all your replies.
  11. For our new digital signage system we were considering putting a VGA cable through a wall, unfortunately out caretaker doesn't have any 50mm drill bits since he stopped working down the mines , so does anyone know if you can successfully wire a VGA connector in-house? Or is it possible to convert the VGA cable to a narrower one for the wall section? (as cheaply as poss) ATM it looks like we'll have to take it through the celing, which isn't the end of the world but I would like to try and go through the wall.
  12. Power options?

    XP SP3

My personal admin PC is running SP3 as of this morning to evaluate, I'll proably re-create the RIS images with it over the summer hols
  14. There has been one moment where I needed more power, I was trying to keep up with a BMW X5 on the A5/M54 near Telford, and at triple figures he was still pulling away I feel much better now Does it play "Ride of the Valkyries" when you drive it? There's nothing like a big old german Panzertankwagen, I think my next car will be a Merc 190E, so I can just use it to drive through walls and suchlike
  15. One staff member is off, and the pupils in his classes are too, everyone else is in, but TBH i don't mind considering most of the annoying ones happen to be in the classes that won't be here...
  16. *turns greeen as Alfa does 30-33 tops*
  17. I think TT were the first to strap a blower to a Metro engine (before ARG got round to it), I wonder how much an installation would be for my Alfa 146 That unfortunate clause "parked at owner's risk" again...
  18. TT kits are amazing fun, no matter what they're strapped to They did a TT XR2 on carbs I think?
  19. We use tall cupboards in rooms with PCs inside them, KVM extension cables and active USB extenders give access to the PCs from the desks. Pretty vandal proof really
  20. Well I've swapped them over, lets see if things grind to a halt or go like greased weasels...
  21. The current switch is a 2626 with two 1Gbit ports, one for the backbone and the "constested" one. TBH I only considered the 5-port unmanaged jobbie to split the one spare giggabit port to both servers, but i think the fileserver should have it. The only issue is that the Exchange box is externally accessable over t'interweb, but I would think that 100mbit should be ok considering that the firewall only has 100 mbit connectivity.
  22. Getting the £50 out of them for a 5 port unmanaged switch is probably going to involve pleading, begging or possible threats of violence so no chance of a new switch. I'll swap them over in a few weeks and see how it goes.
  23. I was thinking that way, but as it stands it aint getting changed until after our inspection next week
  24. On my curriculum network, I have two servers, one is running exchange and WSUS, while the other is running Apps, DC, Fileserver and print server. At the moment our exchange server is connected to the only spare 1Gbit port on the switch, with the other server running at 100Mbit. I was thinking of either swapping the two over, and putting the exchange box on 100mbit, or getting a 5 port gigabit switch and hooking both up to the gigabit port. Does exchange and WSUS generate enough traffic to warrant 1gbs, or should the main server have it all?

    Projector Filters

Looks like I'll be using the caretaker's dustbuster-type battery vac. Our projectors have those mounting "plates" which stop you getting to the bottom face of the projector, and thus the filters are getting neglected...
