  1. This has now appeared following the Windows updates on Tuesday 12th on "some" PC's in school and on my home computer, I'm therefore thinking its related to a recent Windows update. Now affecting both Windows 7 and 8.1 clients! Steve
  2. Then you are lucky as not all inspectors ask the same questions, if I asked as a parent "what mechanisms do you have in place to discharge your duty of care to my child by preventing access to inappropriate websites" How would you answer?
  3. Ok, bear with me here... Oh hello Mr Ofsted Inspector, how may I help you? Oh, you would like to see what mechanisms we have in place to discharge our duty of care to each student? What do you mean we must take reasonable precautions and be able to demonstrate how we do this? Yes of course we understand that parents expect a higher moral standard be applied by schools than by parents themselves.. How would we deal with a front-page news article that we provided unfiltered Internet access and failed in our duty of care at even a basic level to protect a student from inappropriate online material? All this without even considering the use of the schools network to download inappropriate or illegal material? Filtering in schools is nothing more that students can expect once they leave education and take up paid employment, Try surfing p)rn in the offices of your local business and see how quickly you get the sack! Appropriate filtering is everywhere, just not on your home broadband connection. Setting boundaries is essential in preparing young people for the world of work, getting to your new job and saying its my right to access social networking whenever and wherever I like is likely to get you the sack! Steve PS, Oh and yes I have worked in some high end automotive (Arrows F1, Honda F1, TWR Engineering) & IT (Digital Equipment, Compaq, HP)companies and at each I've seen staff dismissed for inappropriate use of the companies systems, given the contents of their desk and escorted off the premises.

  8. because in the UK we have "free" banking, in the US people have to pay for current accounts and have transaction fees etc
  9. We use Powersdine and they support POE+
  10. I'm just installing a mix of 2920-24 POE and 2920-48 all linked by stacking modules and then 10Gb SPP Modules back to our core. so far I'm very happy with them.
  11. I know where you are coming from and I'm not offering to moderate it, personally I'm not up for giving people a stick to beat us with! Any "issues" should certainly be reported direct to school, not via a discussion group! Happy Christmas BTW Jenny
  12. The pitfalls of social networkingpptx.pptx here you go Steve
  13. Ditto, presentation you can use if needed, pm your email Steve
  14. I'd just like to share with you a timeline, now this level of customer service doesn't happen very often so these guys and gals need to be congratulated! Ticket Created by Maidstone Grammar School 27/11/2013 14:52:00 Hi Guys, we are testing (live) the Parents Evening module, so far so good. However we opened booking to staff only for a couple of days before parents, this was to enable teachers to pre book appointments with pupils that they specifically wanted to see on the night. this's fine, when parents login they can see all the appointments pre-booked for them and than fill up the remainder of the evening with other appointments. We would like to be able to click a button on the day before the event to remind all participants (Parents & staff) of their schedule. We note the report "all appointments" is an HTML file, so hope this function would be easy to implement? If so we would LOVE to try it out on the 3rd Dec for the Parents Evening on the 4th Dec. Can you clarify what the function of the email button on manage/parents evenings/Globe icon (Email) please. thanks Steve Support 27/11/2013 18:32:00 +3h 40m Processed (Fixed) 28/11/2013 13:18:00 +18h 46m ADDED: Parents can be emailed from the main Manage Parents Evening screen alongside staff. As far as I'm concerned that's above and beyond the call of duty (?) The new updated version was posted on their page today! Steve
  15. Hi Kirsty Welcome to the forum, however not too sure how comfortable people will be if you look to hijack other peoples threads for commercial gain? its a bit "not the done thing" although not sure if its against forum rules MOD? Nor am I very happy and being mail shotted by PM
  16. We've already been there as Parents have had access via Insight for a few years, the Insight portal shows Attendance (live) Behaviour and achievement.. The only new consideration is an actual Parents forum where they can post discussion and comments on threads (much like this forum) Steve
  17. Morning all We have used TASC Software's Insight product for some time, however our SLT have awoken to some of the features we have not enabled. Does anyone have experience of using the Forum facility for parents to discuss school matters? I'm somewhat aware that these things can become a platform for parents to bash us with! Thanks in advance Steve
  18. The MSM422 are dual band 2.4 & 5ghz Wireless N, so unless your looking for something running AP, than they ought to suffice in stand alone mode as a pretty much FOC option.
  19. Ok, after another weekend of payment issues we have now reached the breaking point, parents are calling up and asking to be removed from ParentMail altogether and go back to paper letters! For us this is going to be a deal breaker as the one of the main reasons for going with PM was to reduce paper not increase it! It will not save us any work or paper if we have to run a dual system, especially if the online side of that is so unreliable if you're reading this ParentMail I think the straw just broke the camels back....
  20. Just out of interest, but I assume you have your "WiFi routers" uplinked into a 100mbit port? if so ALL your Wifi clients are getting each is a proportional share of that (e.g. 10 clients would only get 10mbit each) Your WiFi router or Access Point) will need a gigabit connection at least to be able to cope with this many clients. I actually have 55 x HP MSM422 dual band AP's that are going spare (and a controller but that needs a 5400 Procurve chassis) you can have a couple for the postage...Oh, and you'll also need POE (Power over Ethernet) switch or a Midspan power injector as these work with POE (I have no mains adapters) Steve
  21. Not as such, just give them a call I guess....like I said, sometimes they have them listed under a different part number. We also sell these to students at cost ex VAT via our Bursary
  22. I bought 96 @ £3.95 each inc bags Call them as they sometimes list them with and without bags etc They gave me a free pair at BETT to take away to try... Sound quality is pretty good, cables are cord wound and have additional strain relief anchors where they enter the headset, left earpiece has volume control and mike
  23. You can get a Peter King pre build, flight tested 450 DJI (Clone) with a AMP Flight controller etc off Peter king for £270! APM2.5 Multirotor fleet for sale £270 - £480 - YouTube
