Sudden 'Unauthorised network' issues on Domain
Torrevez replied to marsdenprimary's topic in Wired Networks
I agree, we have just removed all our converters and installed the proper modules. File transfer times have more than halved They are expensive compared with the cheap converters you can pick up, but well worth the money.- 19 replies

My money would be on a damaged VGA cable, try replacing it. If not try unplugging the VGA splitter and just run the monitor on it own.

Sudden 'Unauthorised network' issues on Domain

Any device can fail I guess, have you got another set of converters you can try? Have you had any building work done recently near the fibre run, maybe its been damaged.- 19 replies

After a bit of googleing it appears that the WD Velociraptors do have TLER, anti-vibration ect. It's seems the only reason they have changed from Enterprise to Workstation is the inclusion of Advance Format which I believe is only an issue on older server/OSs
-
Ok so RAID may not be a good idea with SSD's. How about using WD Velociraptor's for everything 2 250GB WD Velociraptors in RAID 1 for OS and 3 1TB WD Velociraptors in RAID 5 for data. This gives us some redundancy, 2tb of storage space, 10k spindle speed and I think I can squeeze it into my budget.
-
Didn't realise storage was going to give me this many options. I think a 10/15k SAS setup is out of the windows, I just don't have the budget. I also think the E5-2620 is a stretch to far. Maybe I should have stated this at the start but, I have a budget of £1500 for hardware (Server licensing comes from another budget). After taking the advice on here I am now looking at a HP ML350 G8 with E5-2420 and 8GB RAM, RAM can easily be upgrade to 16GB at a later date if required. As for storage I am now considering 2 Samsung 256GB 840 Pro SSD in RAID 1 for OS and either 3 or 4 7.2k 1TB SATA drives in either RAID 5 or 10
-
Thanks for the input, at least I am on the right track. Expansion scope is important to us and the ML350 G8 can support more RAM than we could ever use and has dual CPU socket. I agree the E5-2420 looks a far superior CPU so it may be a consideration budget allowing. I also like the idea of having the OS on seperate SSD's.

Not sure yet probably just a couple of 7.2k 1TB drives in RAID1, we don't have an awful lot of data to store.

Hi, We a currently updating some of our servers and moving to Server 2012. I am having some trouble deciding on the specifications for our main curriculum server. We are a primary school with 500 pupils and around 200 computers. The curriculum server is used for AD, File Sharing, Print Server, WSUS, DNS and DHCP I am currently looking at the HP ML350 G8 with a Xeon E5-2407 and 8GB RAM, is it going to be suitable for the next 3 years? Thanks Dan

I changed some options in one of our group policies the other day, and ever since out XP workstation have been opening every folder in a new window which is incredibly annoying. I have re-traced my steps however I don't seem to be able to find the option that changes this. Can someone point me in the right direction Daniel

Take and image off one of the the other machines that is working properly and then load it on the broken one. -
The main things I use my machine for. Several VMware machines Video editing and encoding Photoshop General office and internet Itunes and remote desktop. Usually all at the same time. Which is why I really need to upgrade to an I7 like everyone else.

At the moment I run: Core I3 530 @ 2.93GHz 3GB DDR3 Ram 500GB Hard Drive And to be honest with you its far too slow for what I use it for. Considering building myself a new Core i5 or 7 machine for work.

Via Group Policy. You can add it for either users or computers. Depending on if you want roaming users to be able to use it or just a physical location.

[hosting] What sort of hosting should I be getting for this site?
Torrevez replied to sidewinder's topic in Web Development
I used Godaddy.com in the past for an online game I used to run. They where really quick and I don't think it went down once in the 3 years I used them. You get PHP SQL ect. Plus 10GB storage and unlimited bandwidth for £2.89 per month if you sign up for a year at the moment. Web Hosting | Secure Hosting Plans with Unlimited Bandwidth -
As far as I know, both Promethean and Smart make multi touch boards
-
Both system state and data. Not in the same backup though. I have used Robocopy before on my personal server at home, so that could well be an option. For system state I have just used the built in backup utility before but I fell its not very user friendly.

I am just about to build a small NAS box for our 2k3 servers which will be located in a different building on our site basically giving us an offsite backup. The hardware side of things am fine with. Its just the software, I really can't decide which is the best method to backup the data so am now asking for suggestions. Thanks Daniel

I have used con2prt.exe in the login script to add printers in the past. It works flawlessly I have found. Example \\server\NETLOGON\con2prt /cd \\server\printername Information on the switches here: con2prt - Add or Remove Printer Connections Download link: Downloads | This is Helpful

[ms office - 2010] Best way to Deploy Office 2010
Torrevez replied to MattDLEA's topic in Office Software
If you run a script to run you office script as a schedule task at login you can make it run from an administrator account. For example SCHTASKS /Create /SC ONLOGON /TN taskname /TR \\Server\Software\office2010.bat /RU DOMAIN\username /RP password Then after a few months when all your machines have updated you can remove the schedule task with. SCHTASKS /Delete /TN taskname /F Bit of a long way round but it does work. -
Regardless of if they are getting warrenty or support. It is still a VATable item, a school although it doesn't pay VAT itself is still VAT registered so therefore has to charge VAT for anything it sells. Otherwise it is tax evasion.
