  1. Hi Guy's, We need to renew our e-mail filtering... What filtering system do you guys use and do you recommend it? We currently use WatchGuard and are really pleased with them (with both price and functionality), however we were told by them that they are leaving the e-mail filtering business - hence why I'm looking... So... Over to you guys and gals -Ken
  2. Hi All, Just wondering, to any schools/academies in the Northants area... Any chance of letting us come round to take a look at your set-up please? We're trying to get BYOD working - with little success when it comes to different levels of internet filtering (between students, sixth formers and staff). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks -Ken
  3. Hi All, Was wondering if anyone has come across this and how did you sort this out... We currently have a Fortinet system (firewall, controller, etc - all in one), we are moving away from the wireless part of it to go with Ruckus, however we are having issues with internet filtering groups. No matter what we use (AD authentication, Radius/NPS, LDAP, etc) we can connect to the network but we do not get the internet filtering groups applied (these are created in the Fortinet system, based on the groups in AD) - so everyone that uses their own devices only get guest internet access. But, of course, if they use the issued laptops from us (that are joined to the domain) they get their assigned filtering. Is there anyway around this? How can we get the proper filtering applied to the "Bring your own Device" devices? Thanks -Ken
  4. I uninstalled from the client only
  5. Following on from my last post; the startcomponentcleanup, RestoreHealth (reboot) and then startcomponentcleanup (reboot) worked. I have been able to install the latest version of the hyper-v tools on my VMs
  6. Yes, the conbination of the removal of: KB3161606 with the following command: dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup Worked on 2 of the 3 servers (so far), one 3rd server after the dism command, it errored out with "Error 14098 the Component Store has been corrupted". I have run the following command: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth (which ran successfully), rebooted the server and currently running the above dism command again... Waiting for it to finished to see if the 3rd server can be done as well
  7. Yeah, just found that. Half way thru the DISM command, will see if that works...
  8. Hi All, Was wondering if any of you have had this issue... The updating of Windows 2012 r2 integration tools on a virtual server? OK, the environment: Host server: Windows 2012 r2 Datacentre (fully updated) Virtual server: Windows 2012 r2 Standard (fully updated) Integration tools on virtual server: 6.3.9600.16384 Integration tools that is to be installed: 6.3.9600.17831 During installation (upgrade) it comes up with the following error: An error has occurred: One of the update processes returned error code 14101. Error messages in Event viewer: None Work done to try to get it to install: All Windows updates Reboot (just in case anyone mentions that) Install KB3063283 The uninstall of KB3161606 Currently this is only coming up as a warning in SCOM, but I would rather not have any warnings We're still looking into this, but if anyone has any thought (in relation to this), that would be great... -Ken
  9. We use to do this via Prodigy (the UK arm of Certiport), however can't remember if we had to pay the PO first or not...
  10. Yes, we're experiencing it and trying to find a solution for this #Puzzled
  11. 35/44, not bad considering I didn't grow up in the UK
  12. I know this is an "old fix" for previous versions of Office, but have you tried the following: Open IE -> "Tools" menu -> "Internet Options" -> "Security" tab -> "Local Intranet" -> Click on "Sites" button -> Uncheck "Automatically detect intranet network" In previous version, what would happen is that even if the file was on the local machine, Office (excel, etc) would still try to scan the network... Don't know if it applies to Office 2016, but mine is unticked and I can open up files without any problems (not that it helps you )
  13. Has the affected user tried this on another machine? Has another user tried to duplicate the issue on this machine (different logon)? How long has this been happening? Have you tried a system restore? It may be an update, it may have been a virus, etc... Have you checked event viewer just after you/the user attempted the save?
  14. Hi All, Got a weird problem that I've never come across, but has anyone seen this... In Office 2010, when you do a search in clipart and then import it into the document, some of the cliparts turn into inserted .htm file (see attached pic). If you know what it is and have an answer, please don't be shy and post it below Thanks -Ken
  15. What's their size? Big? Big Macs are great especially with fries and a drink.... But on a serious note, for you it's a chance to upskill and certify (get your ACA cert). See if your media or music departments wants to try them out (with limited support until you get more skilled at it). Or if you don't want to do any of that, get rid of them. The question is what do you want to do?
  16. There's also EDx, along with signing up for the Cyber Security course with Openlearn, also signed up for Leadership for Engineers. Depends, there's Project management (eg prince2), Best/Good practice methodologies (eg ITIL, FITS), management qualifications (eg NVQ, Certs/diploma/degree of HE and post grad), higher technical certs (MCSA/MCSE/CCNA/CCNP)... Different organsations (within education and outside our sector) want/require different things...
  17. The ITIL Foundation cert/exam can be self-studied, anything above that you will have to attend an approved course. I did the ITIL v3 Foundation exam, then I did the FITS level 4 & 5 (this was before the qualification was revised, now it's level 3 & 4). This is based on ITIL but aimed primarily for the education (however it can be applied to non-education sectors as well). If you can find funding general management quals from the ILM are great, I did the NVQ 3 in Management - not a training course as such, but it does help with what you should be doing and point you in the right direction. There's also the higher education route, eg with the OU you have Technology Management, Management (general), etc...
  18. Yeah, will be going but on the last day - the Saturday
  19. Hey all, Was wondering if anyone else has the new Linx 1010 tablets and how you were deploying the OS on them? Eg creating a fresh build or just using the one that came on the tablet. If you get creating a fresh build, how are you pushing the OS out? And where are you getting the drivers for them? Thanks -Ken
  20. Just found the App-V server install was on the MDOP iso
  21. Hi All, Just wondering if anyone here has played around with App-V? We use SCCM, etc to push out applications. However we also have external course providers that use our PC's, some of them want additional software installing. In the past, it wouldn't have been a problem but now a days with 101 different applications installed (ok I maybe off on my numbers here), it take time to test additional software on our builds to ensure that it doesn't interfere or crash the machines... How did you find it? Where did you find the install for it - the App-V server? (I'm currently downloading the MDOP for the client part) Any pointers would be greatly appreciated -Ken
  22. All barr one of the machines that I've upgrade/installed Windows 10 have activated ok. The one that didn't, I ran the slmgr /ipk & slmgr /ato commands. Maybe it'll work for you?
  23. Yes, we even added the Pause of 500 seconds.
  24. Tried that, in our scenario, it doesn't work
