I watched it with interest myself last night, but I just don't know how in this day and age these educated people, actually believed that these computers were completely free to begin with and then did not read through or mull over what they were signing, like has been said, I wouldn't be pressurised into anything especially given the obvious financial implications, I have had cold callers at the office once or twice and they get nothing, be it over the phone or in person where I previously worked. The old adage in that "if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is" and "theres no such thing as free", I mean you only have to watch things like watchdog or any consumer show to see that these types of scams happen all the time, yet people still get sucked into them.

I nearly cracked and bought it last night, but the fact that I didnt get paid until this morning means I didnt buy it, I am in midst of a busy week here anyway so resisting the urge so far

the scam comes up from the over inflated price that they value the equipment at instead of its cost price, i.e. a laptop valued at say £2500 a unit instead of the £250 cost price, which the leaser is left paying when it all goes wrong (something to do with the type of lease as well I believe), they basically gain the credit for that from a bank as its secured on the leases if I am right then they as a company. I am looking forward to the documentary tonight myself to see whats going down with it all and how exactly it works though.

I am primarily a raider/pve person, I used to be fairly hardcore up until about 2 years ago (three raid nights that I "had" to make a week from 7pm-11), until burnout set in for me bigtime and I saw how destructive the game can be, raid finder and a drastic reduction in playing time helped me see the error of my ways then and enjoy the game casually. At the moment though I find I am genuinely wondering whether I will even buy the expansion, because I have so much more stuff going on in RL at the moment, I think I have finally broken the hold the game had on me, so we shall see

ironically your right, the US supposedly got hacked, I think it was a little wider though, because this hack didnt stop my RL mate getting his account hacked though on his eu account, strange it tied in with the password leak, considering he never used any dodgy game services and is tech savvy about browsing the web and clicking links.

I instantly regretted updating mine to 6 on Thursday night, the google map showed my location at home precisely and all versions of the map worked, whereas with the new "apple" maps my house was in the midst of a grey/brown field with no definition, this is in an urban area as well :/ Honest to god I think iOS6 is the absolute worst thing apple have done to the iPhone in the short time that I have had one (7 months into a 4S here), on top of maps instantly becoming crap, my battery life has now started tanking on the phone, last night when I got home from work, my battery was on 7%, averages around 40-50% normally % when I get home on any normal day and yesterday in work was fairly quiet compared to most days also. We berate M$ for some of the stuff they do, but I just cant see how apple would release something that's clearly untested as a whole, especially if you buy into their whole "Quality User Experience" ethos.

I play mmorpgs here and was lucky enough to get a M$ Sidewinder X5 for a £10 at christmas in my local Currys, that being said I would pay £40 for one of these after having this one, my main thing is that its illuminated as I tend to have the light off in the room.

I downloaded it via the torrent available on the site and it came in within about 4 hours last night, after I got in from pub it was done, been playing it this morning and its good fun so far.

I just had a look at the specs and tbh it seems to me to be another fairly insignificant release, if for me you have a 4S at least, its only difference seems to be slightly different data abilities(which dont affect us in UK at present), a diff processor, a .5 inch screen increase and a change to the connector. I am going back to android in 14 months myself here and I know from speaking with a mate of mine last night, hes renewing to an SIII as well.

BBC News - Viewpoint: Apple's iPhone launches no longer excite - that made an interesting read earlier I thought, I am not really for or against apple (In that I see as many plus as negatives to me overall personally), despite owning a 4S myself.

samsung one for me, had a couple of their TVs now, cant go wrong with them usually.

The ads thing just put me off a fair bit there, I agree with @AMLightfoot, I accept them on games that I play the free versions off like angry birds and such, but :/ to forcing them down your throat. Reminds a bit of the old Gizmondo and its smart ads

I think the only reasons for 64bit stuff with office when I looked at it originally, were if you were working on massive filesizes with the suite regularly, i.e. over a couple of gb file sizes, otherwise stick with 32bit

I can understand it if its a long serving technical issue the thread staying open or even being reopened if it autolocked say after 2 years with what I suggested. I raised this because I noticed it a lot on here lately though, that people "necro" very, very old threads like the one I linked, usually with their first post on here, its not usual "netiquette" to raise dead posts in forums and I find it a little frustrating thinking something is somewhat a "hot topic" to find that someone has just replied (sometimes with nonsensical/trivial stuff) onto an old thread. I think it could be a possible problem with the "similar threads feature" also as I am typing this in the edit box, I see 3 posts linking in from 2010 and 1 from 2011.

our air con is set at 18 celsius in our server room (it is a large server room where the equipment is at the opposite end to the air con unit, no issues though with overheating at all for us.

Hello Edugeekers, I want to suggest that we add a rule or discourage people from posting/raising long dead threads, i.e. ones that havent had any updates in over a 12 month, its quite frustrating when that happens I find, don't know how anyone else feels about it., but I just wanted to raise it as a suggestion after seeing yet another thread raised to the top here with nothing massively relevant - http://www.edugeek.net/forums/behind-red-door/36706-todays-evil-prank.html Possibly auto lock posts after 12 months inactivity is a solution I think (been a couple of years since I looked behind a VBulletin board)

late to the party here, I trialled it onto the wifes laptop (not brave enough for my main machine here yet), not sure what to make of it in all, its different, bit buggy (it is a pre sp1 os from M$ though), seems to be a bit like the gnome shell from Linux too me at least in parts, but I do like the look of it overall I think. First impressions for me are that it has a learning curve alright, its a departure from previous versions of windows, I spent best part of an hour working out how to get the address bar up on demand in IE 10 #winning now and I actually like full screen browsing of the internet now. I like it, but it needs to be worked on, think ill delay judgement until further down the line with it as things stand now. Can see the problems of switching to it no end though from a professional pov, esp where I am working given the change.

My super hub works fine here with an iPad, two laptops, phones and my gaming rig, never crashes here that I would notice, you have to fiddle a bit with the super hub to get it working well from what recall, part of the firewall needed disabling, you can find out about the guides in google about that though Other than that I would recommend virginmedia, I use the Internet in a similar manner to what you described and I haven't noticed the throttling here at all so far on the 50 meg connection (though they pushed my "free upgrade" to 100mb back until dec/jan)

Interesting read there, saw interview with jury foreman earlier too, seems the whole affair stinks really and quite rushed

google "setting up ubuntu 12.04" and you will get no end of guides telling you how to set up Linux and what applications you may want to install onto your machine, it takes a little bit of getting used to, but its a nice operating system when you have it installed and setup properly.

I dont know how Gareth feels that I work with, but this OS to me seems another vista/ME in the making, M$ are going like Star Trek films, every other one is good it seems Windows 8 just doesnt get me excited about using it from what I have seen so far, seems designed for the tablet/touch device market to me more than home/desktop user.

At the moment I'm levelling my warrior who is 70, I started a fresh one on this realm as transferring anymore characters will result in nasty things happening to me according to wife, but I'm struggling myself at the moment to find enough interest to do things, I keep going on low level alts now and have 4 40+ alts on Ragnaros, my two druid and mage 85s are ready to go, I just hope mop won't be the same kind of expansion that cataclysm turned out to be myself, because I haven't been impressed with that so far, it was a very poor expansion I felt, looking back now I have played through it

We have a onelan box for our digital signage and I have a Linux workstation that I made to sort out a nas we had that failed in work that's quite useful, I've also played about with freenas and openfiler as well when looking into storage solutions before here
