Our RMStaff area is currently running at 59.7GB, but we also have a NAS box for multimedia resources and student hand-in which, despite telling people it isn't regularly backed up, is now up to 619GB.

Not sure you should have been sticking a dog up there at all, but nice work with the ferret.

Wrong colour ribbons but looks good anyway.

Haven't they just earmarked £1.2bn to be spent on school buildings?

Working environment - server noise. Is this affecting my hearing?
JonWPS replied to adhutton's topic in General Chat
I've just moved out of our server room. The noise was constant droning, and I'd get so used to it I wouldn't notice it until I was away for a little while and came back. We tested the decibel reading and it wasn't above the maximum allowed apparently, but I got the move anyway. Great so far but might regret not having air con come the summer. -
Well after always feeling a bit left out, I've finally had these jokers call. Was a beauty as well; vouchers for me and my family, to be delivered to my home address of course (they've had them go missing when delivered to schools), wanting to know when I was away from work, these world-saving super toners that are only £200 (they work in every printer ever produced), and finally the promise of free toners for us to try. Under the name of CBI or something.

Access to Facebook for teachers
JonWPS replied to paulst30's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
The issue often isn't what it said, but rather who it reaches. In my experience many people are incredibly naive when it comes to Facebook and other social networking sites, and have little to no comprehension of just how open it is unless you specifically alter your privacy settings. A comment about another member of staff that is subsequently seen by staff members and pupils alike is going to get you in a bit of bother. We've had more issues with staff use of Facebook than pupils. -
Access to Facebook for teachers
JonWPS replied to paulst30's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
It's blocked here and that won't be changing any time soon. Absolutely no need for it whatsoever. As mentioned above we have one member of staff with a 3G unfiltered connection which we have used in the past on site to investigate (mainly staff) misuse of Facebook, Twitter etc. -
Those of us who have been through the P&B review are frozen for a couple of years anyway.
-
We allow it for teachers, and our C&M Diploma students, but block it for everyone else. Safety mode is also enforced.

No special laptops for SMT here, although we're looking at providing them with docking stations, monitors, mice and keyboards after some concerns were raised about health and safety.

April 2014 I think. Or I hope.

It's an ongoing issue this. External HDs are generally fine as they're more recoverable, but I've had a few heart-stopping moments when I've realised certain members of staff have GBs of stuff on minute little USB pens that look like they were made in a DT class. Just a case of constantly educating people that if it doesn't exist in three places minimum, it doesn't exist at all. A few have learnt the hard way either by losing years of work, or having to pay a specialist firm to recover data.

I'm outraged!

Same. Have used them for a couple of years now and they've been great. Yes you need 30 items but that's not a problem, and they'll quite often pick up additional boxes of odds and ends you may have lying around.

I'm intrigued as to what Division the PC Brigade belongs to.

We're closed to students. Still undecided as to whether I should come in. Could do with a nice quiet day to catch up on work...

But but but but....she's been getting up at 5am every morning.

You're entering a world of pain if you go down this route.

I'm on the lookout as well as ours seems to have given up, and for the life of me I can't find where the previous tech stuffed the drivers.

We do full backups Monday to Thursday, then have five sets of Friday tapes which are rotated. All kept in a safe in another block. When I started here the safe was directly next to the servers, which was a bit stupid, really.

Great news. Whoever took them is absolute scum.
