  1. The stuff I've got is a exe setup. No msi and no instructions for silent installations.
  2. Hello, Does anyone have any guidance for installing the vex drivers, firmware update utility and modkit link software across a network? I've been asked to install it on at least ten laptops, and I'm reluctant to do this manually. No replies on their own forums yet. Cheers, Ian M
  3. This is still available if you want it: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/classified-adverts/143473-netbook-lapsafe.html#post1229923
  4. You need to be careful with that. In the past I've found that no insurer would touch a van if they thought it might have been a self build conversion.
  5. Pah - VW hipsters. Overpriced and unreliable. I insure my Toyota Granvia through Staveley Head. They have a specialist policy which worked out way cheapest for me.
  6. We've just had a workshop with these chaps looking at exactly the same scenario: Software Asset Management | Software Licensing | Infrastructure Solutions | Phoenix Software. Not cheap though.
  7. How about a pair of ear defenders? Seriously - you shouldn't be working long term in a server room, and temporary protection is much cheaper than silencing all your kit.
  8. I'm also looking at a similar requirement, so will follow with interest.
  9. An important problem with mobile devices is the support cycles of the OS. How many people are still using old, unsupported versions of Android? We certainly have some iPod touches that are now no longer getting iOS updates.
  10. Hello, Has anyone come across courses suitable to get a newbie up-to-speed on AV related technologies? I'm looking for something that covers basic signal and connector types and maybe runs through troubleshooting different types of device. A hands-on real life course rather than online would seem more appropriate if possible. Ta in advance, Ian M
  11. Have you got HDMI to VGA converters somewhere in the signal from AppleTV to projector? If HDCP gets broken then you might get symptoms like this.
  12. Just out of interest. Am I the only one who would apply for this, apart from the Saturday working? I suspect they are massively reducing their pool of candidates with that stipulation.
  13. This greatly concerns me for a number of reasons, some of which are stated above. Personally I worry about abuse of power as much as anything. On this occasion I've decided that politicians need to know that not everyone wants 'greater security' at any cost. Hence I've taken the unusual (for me) step of writing to my MP (https://www.writetothem.com). I would encourage others to do likewise.
  14. Have you seen this document? https://meraki.cisco.com/lib/pdf/meraki_whitepaper_ios.pdf It has all the different models mapped out with proc and cons for each.
  15. Surplus Lapsafe available for anyone who can collect from York. I think it's the Lapsafe 'Mini Mentor'. Measurements: 655mm x 605mm x 1165mm (113kg) Suitable for 30 netbooks, with built in chargers suitable for Toshiba NB250 or similar. Could probably be adapted for tablets or other devices.
  16. Just managed to find a suitable pallet. Should be OK for a pickup early next week.
  17. That's really helpful. Thanks to the ITNinja link I worked out that the transform wasn't applying. For me it was because I'd saved the .mst file with a lowercase filename, but the script uses an uppercase 'A'. Together with proper privileges this looks like it's going to work nicely - thanks very much!
  18. This is very timely for me. Unfortunately I can't quite get it working. Is there something about the mst which references your specific network?
  19. Just need to check it with the boss, and then see if our facilities chaps to have a pallet kicking about. We also have a more compact lapsafe for netbooks if anyone is interested in that...
  20. 1000mm wide, 500mm deep, 1150mm tall inc wheels. Weighs a ton. Each laptop bay is 360mm x 52mm x 250mm and has a Toshiba a10 charger built in.
  21. We've got a spare 30 bay Lapsafe if you're still looking - probably free to a good home who can collect/arrange transport.
  22. Care to share how you've sorted it?
  23. I'm curious about organisations who are using a single preshared key for wireless. Why do you do this when things like WPA 802.11x RADIUS authenticating against AD are available?
  24. I agree - any new installations should have a HDMI available otherwise you'll have all sorts of fun and games with HDCP as soon as someone wants to play video.
