We've been replacing ours when they go pop. So many of the projectors are old and falling apart it doesn't make sense to buy lamps. We're replacing them with the new Casio LED/Laser machines and it's really a case of install and forget, maybe cleaning the vents once a year too.

Printers. How many and where do you have them?
Bento replied to DCUK6's topic in How do you do....it?
We have a Ricoh MFD system with PaperCut here, school size 620 Pupils and about 80 Staff with about 30 classrooms including specialities such as Art and Food. The school is a bit of an odd layout but we've got: 1 Small MFD in each IT Room (2 total) 1 Large MFD in the Reprographics area (with finishers) 1 Large MFD in the Art and Design Technology Block 1 Small MFD in the Staff room 1 Small MFD in the main school office which also serves the surrounding offices for the HT etc. This Device also faxes. All our devices default to Mono and Duplex. Going with this system is one of the best decisions for the school IMO. We scrapped inkjet printers on every desk and the amount of time I spend on Printing issues has drastically reduced. Automatic toner ordering is a godsend too. Worth every penny. -
[ipad] One Apple ID for all School iPads?
Bento replied to Bento's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Thanks Brimstone, During my testing it was all setup and working with one ID across multiple iPads, however just wanted to make sure that I was doing it right for other reasons that I may have missed. -
Hi All, Just a quick one from me. We have about 40 iPads that are assigned to staff, these are configured using configurator, which also applies our Meraki MDM profile. The staff iPads are using the staff's own Apple ID which we then assign and revoke apps to via the MDM method. Great, all works (relatively) well. We have however got an iPad safe in our Library with 16 iPads in that are booked out as and when, setup the same way as the staff iPads (supervised with configurator, then MDM'd with Meraki). The question is; in this situation what is best? One "school" Apple ID that is signed in on all 16 of these, or a different ID for each one? Which would probably end up being [email protected]. These too are on the Meraki MDM. Still trying to work out the ideal system for us because my office (With the mac mini server) is at the other end of the school to the Library so it really has to be a wireless solution. Thanks in advance.

I found out the problem with our setup here, seems someone has updated the default login profile (we don't have roaming or local profiles and force a static profile on all accounts) and that included a bunch of printers. Obviously then when users logged on these showed up in addition to the deployed ones. Time to fix that profile!

I've had the same issue this week with our Windows Server 2008 r2 and Windows 7 domain network. We've recently had a new fleet of printers installed along with PaperCut to enable follow me printing and monitoring of how many prints were done (No monitoring at all beforehand). We decided on going for a Staff Follow Me print queue and a Pupil Follow Me Queue. Set these up via Print Management -> Deployed printers and all was well for a week or two. Then we started getting random printers that weren't deployed to the user or machine. E.g. staff could see the Pupil Follow Me Queue and vice-versa. Guess I should do the same then?

Kids Can't Use Computers... And This Is Why It Should Worry You
Bento replied to seawolf's topic in General Chat
I saw this a while ago, and while I agree with a lot of what is said, some of it (like X-13 pointed out above) isn't quite as cut and dry. Still an excellent read though! -

Hello all, Quick hello from me, I'm an ICT/Media Technician based at a school in Dorset, and also Head Technician at a local community radio station. I've been a reader/lurker for a long while now and thought it was probably about time I started posting!
