Hi, For education the SonicWALL does not yet have the granularity that you require to do the best job. It does have a lot of application control that other filtering units are missing. We are generally providing SonicWALL with a hosted Netsweeper solution that seems to give the control that is needed, backed up by the bandwidth management and profiling that the firewall can offer.

That makes more sense. The 100mb/s link is the only one you need something more meaty on, but only if you are doing full deep packet inspection and application control. If it is just firewalling then an NSA250 upwards will do the deal on the SonicWALL front or a PA200 upwards on the Palo side of things

Hi, Personally I would have gone for a failover pair of firewalls with a couple of switches that you could then connect all of your different circuits in to. I am presuming there is no real reason why they all have to separate firewalls as you can do all the nice firewalling and failover in one box really. If you are doing full DPI etc on the firewalls then I would suggest if you wanted to still with a SonicWALL, then something along the lines of a NSA 3500 or 4500 and if you wanted a Palo Alto probably a 2020 or 2050 would be fine. Palo are a little better on the DPI throughput so as a result you sometimes don't need such a hefty box. More than happy to have a chat at any point.

Hi, I am not sure of the best option on Facebook, but we run a number of Twitter accounts including one for our racing team. I use SocialBro - SocialBro - Explore your Twitter community Which is about £5 a month, but will allow you to compare a number of accounts together to get an overall feel for both your performance and those of others you want to track. I have also used twitter track as well (I think that was what it was called) but SocialBro gives me PDF outputs and all the stuff I need for marketing. Not sure if that helps at all.

BT have increasingly started using poles to deliver fibre. Some of this has come about from the change in OFCOM rulings a few years ago that allowed other contractors, like ourselves, to use current poles or BT ducts to put our own fibres through. This has then opened the market a little (not a lot) and meant that digging is not now the only option, although it is still the preferred.

Hi, It will in many ways depend on what exactly you are trying t get out of the firewall. We are partners with Palo Alto and SonicWALL, but each leads in a different way. The Palo will lead with application control and the idea of being able to control which applications can be used across a network. Firewall rules are then built from that. SonicWALLs will lead with firewall rules and then move on to application control. We can arrange trials of both if you are interested and I will PM you with our details, so you can use them if they are of interest.

Interesting. Are you a standalone site or do you have any other Schools plugged in through your comms rack, maybe a multi SHUK chassis in your rack, or I am guessing it could be possible that your LES or SHUK service connects to another school first and not directly to the LA core.

Hi, It would be interesting if any of you have the ability to download a large file from within the LA network. You are most likely to find that your physical point to point connection from your property to their core will run at the speed it is designed to. What we see in most instances is that the outbound internet section from the LA core is the bit that is over subscribed (or maybe in their terms, carefully cost managed), so technically under your SLA you would get what you are meant to, but in practical terms you don't. It is like your DSL modem at home syncing at 24Mb/s but you only getting 5Mb/s because your ISPs upstream capacity is saturated. I know none of this helps, but it was more of an interesting thought/test, than any comfort !
