Fifty does seem like rather a lot. As @synaesthesia says the general school of thought is either to group by location or by similar requirements. Documentation is the key thing. Make sure you know why the VLANs are there and what they are doing before you unpick it. A good segregated network is great... a bad one is a nightmare!

Is this a permanent role? or contractor? If it's the latter, I'd be keen to know a rough day rate.

Can't really see why it's not a 5 minute job... But in all seriousness - it's just a case of registering the domain name - setup your DNS records and then update your firewall/mailserver - so not really a very long job.

Windows Server Backup will be absolutely fine for this - it uses VSS so you'll get a "good" SQL backup. Just make sure that your backup schedules are regular enough and you have enough space on your backup target. I'd also recommend testing your backups too! - no point having them if they don't work!

Interestingly when I renewed in June it had been withdrawn... but my service is still active...

Does anyone fancy giving me a run down on how to use App-V? I used to use SVS as part of the Altiris suite in a previous life and I understand that App-V works similarly and will solve all my application issues, make me more productive, wealthier and more attractive. Cheers!

Sorry to divert the focus of the thread a little, but has anyone else had any issues changing the Homepage using IE10 GPP? I've had to resort to using GPP to edit the registry... bit odd I think!

Don't skimp too much on tyres... if you want to save some dosh consider brands like Cooper, Falken, Kumho or you might even get a good deal on some Toyos... I was pretty skeptical as to whether cheaper tyres actually made any difference until I got myself a set of LingLong Ditchfinders (or some such nonsense)... I took them off the car within a month. Complete waste of money.

Exactly this - installing RSAT on Win8 can be a bit of a challenge unless you've got one of the language packs it 'likes' installed. Took me an hour to figure that out. Also - beware trying to use GPP if you've still got a GPO with IE Maintenance settings - the lovely .ins file that IEM creates seems to take precedence. I'm going to be spending most of tomorrow unpicking this...

Makes restores really easy should you lose a VM completely - just restore the whole VM rather than rebuilding and restoring data.

This is good advice - and worth investigating if money is tight for a Mac mini server. When I first deployed Macs here a couple of years ago I got a Mac Mini server too and used that to configure "Managed Preferences" in order to lock down the Macs.

What does the storage controller support? RAID-6 would probably be a good option, it could withstand two failed drives and keep going...
