    I do this, but more from a correct/dynamic VLAN assignment point of view. Not really much in terms of perils/pitfalls - just make sure that you keep everything up to date. For example, I use the machines' AD accounts to authenticate them and this just means it's a case of putting machine accounts into the correct security group for VLAN assignment. For switch ports with printers and non 802.1x aware devices I use MAC authentication. Another option is just to use port security on the switches so that it remembers the current MAC address connected and then disables the port if any other device is connected.

    After doing that there should something in the Application Log in Event Viewer that will give you more information - the source will be "Server ActiveSync".

    Hi @Bankesy. ActiveSync is an exchange feature that just needs enabling and then configuring correctly - the guide above that I linked to should explain the process. I've not really ever used IMAP with an iPad so can't offer any advice on that front. You could try using the Exchange Remote Connectivity Tool - this is useful for troubleshooting issues. https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com/ Make sure that you use a dummy account and change the password after using the tool, too...

    Ah - ok. No problem. In order for the iPads to pick up emails from your Exchange server you'll need to set it up for, ideally, ActiveSync, although you could also use POP or IMAP - activesync is probably the preferred mechanism. SANs eat a fair amount of power, so that may negate the power saving you see by reducing the number of physical servers, especially if you're going to have additional networking kit to support SAN traffic. If power-saving is the real driver behind this then it'd be worth considering VMware V-SAN.

    Well in that case - back it up and then try to delete it (out of hours... of course) that'll soon tell you if it's in use!

    It's not a database backup file with no extension by any chance is it? (assuming SQL is on the same server) Given that the 23rd is a Sunday... I wonder if that's the case? Have you checked in SQL to see if there are any maintenance routines or scheduled backups?

    How odd. What's the last modified date on the singular extranet file? has it been modified recently?

    Ok - in that case open up Central Admin - and have a look under "Application Management" for a link called "Manage content databases" - see if "EXTRANET" is listed there...

    What's the file extension on this extranet file? Do you have access to the central admin site? if so - you can find out how much storage space is being used there. I'll need to check how you do this in 2007, I'm running 2010.

    Totally this. My Macbook Air dualboots OSX and Windows 7 and hasn't caused me any hassles in the last 3 years.

    You'll need a public performance licence to use this for hold music... and indeed any copyrighted piece of music!

    Either way, it's a reasonable solution. Although morally speaking what do we do when someone has a "problem" and can't afford to pay? It's a minefield having a "civilised" society!

    I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you @nephilim, but I've observed very different attitudes to alcohol/binge-drinking in different places and I don't think that just making a drink unaffordable will solve the problem. I can only think that would lead to either a black market trade in imported drinks, perhaps cause more people to take up recreational drugs, or possibly worse - dodgy home-brewed moonshine with anti-freeze in it. (I'm being facetious about anti-freeze, but you get the point).

    Interesting. Nothing to do with education, health awareness and trying to get the media to de-glamourise lad-culture (ladette-culture?) then? Perhaps bars and pubs should actually be made to enforce the law by which they're not allowed to serve alcohol to someone who is intoxicated?

    I'm not sure what those part numbers beginning USR are... a J4858C is a J4858C... As for patch leads you'd need one end LC to match the J4858C, and the other end would need to match your fibre patch panel.

    Generally speaking it's easier to unclip the SC end and reverse the pairs. Some very gentle pressure with a flat-blade screwdriver will do it. Go carefully and if it's the first time you're doing it, get a spare patch lead! Edited to add - there's a little plastic housing around the pairs that will unclip. Some are easier than other.

    Personally I use Econocom for all my leasing and they've been very good. I find their T&Cs slightly more flexible than some others and they're happy for you to source the kit from anywhere you like.
