Are you running DRS? Why not turn it off and move all VMs off on to the other hosts to see if the LUN spikes still occur? Could be the ESXi box doing something odd.

Probably worth changing the default performance reporting to see if any of the VMs are sending lots of write or read requests - although with the latency the way it is currently it may not be terribly obvious as to which the culprit is.

Personally, I found that having Smoothwall as a VM caused unacceptable levels of disk latency on my VM environment. Have you tried vMotion-ing it to another host to see if it causes issues on that one?

Definitely consider Ruckus, Aruba and perhaps even Cisco if you've got cash to burn.

They're quite different roles. While the Exec role shares the 1st line IT support, another big part of the focus for that role is to support the MIS Manager, the SLT, and provide IT support for our admin and admissions teams. The Senior role is more technically focussed, no real MIS involvement. As I said above the Senior Tech will be supporting our imaging and software deployment (we're in the process of setting up SCCM) as well as general IT support. Deploy Studio is great. I'd also recommend putting Star Deploy in place in case you need to add additional apps in future... it's great!

All of them seem like perfectly reasonable questions, especially if any of them are seriously considering a career in IT. I personally found that the IT and computing curriculum didn't give me a true idea of what a career in IT would entail and only really found that out thanks to a really excellent IT teacher that explained about IT infrastructure (back when NT was king) and how things really worked. Some of our sixth formers occasionally show an interest in IT and so we show them the main server room and answer any questions that they might have... probably only happens once a year though! The only thing we don't disclose is budget information or anything that would be deemed "sensitive".

The only reason I can see that you'd want to do this is to stop people printing direct to the printers via IP, rather than through the print sever.

You can configure TimeMachine to exclude certain folders - so in effect it will only be backing up the "users" folders.

Yep - should tell you which port it sees the mac address on, even if that port links to another switch...

What sort of switches have you got? Most will let you do a "Show mac-address 11:22:33:44:55" type command and show you which port it's connected to... makes life a LOT easier.

Odd then that things would stop working completely. But if Active Directory is still referring to the old DC this could cause a lot of problems. I'd try and fix the problem before going down the destructive route.
