I used ExpressVPN when travelling previously (mainly for China firewall, but around Japan/Asia too), generally speed wise it’s never great for streaming live, but if you let it buffer a bit before playing worked fine (or offline download on things like Amazon prime) Nice thing is just being able to buy a few months to use it as needed Steve

Regarding the TV side etc I thought that was more just ease of use Imagine trying to find “your” tv in a list of 88 so if you split it down per block/department vlan etc it’s a lot easier to find things But regarding students etc don’t see any reason you’d need to split them, as I’d assume you’ll have them seperate to teacher devices/tvs anyway Steve

Secondary School Infrastructure Upgrade - Doable under £10k?
Steve21 replied to CyBeRkId2002's topic in Wired Networks
Generally it’s like any 3rd party items, will they do what you want 99% of the time Yep, but if/when it breaks will you have the support to fix it? Maybe! Same kind of thing like why a lot of people have an expensive core with unifi at edge, because of the reliability side of things But you’re right you won’t beat it price wise, same as FS transceivers at a 10th of the price of real ones you can just buy spare if needed Steve -
Secondary School Infrastructure Upgrade - Doable under £10k?

To give you a comparison our Aruba chassis bought last year 5406r chassis (6 modules) £1250 700w psu £230 x2 - £460 Management module £600 (for redundancy) 20 Poe + 4 10gb module £950 each So for a 2 psu 2 management and 2 module you could be talking down to about what 4.2k for a fully redundant setup with 40 Poe and 8x 10gb uplinks for 2 to each cab Steve -
From my understanding connected was the "new" hosted, aka the HTML5 RDS wrapper, rather than the old RemoteApp version, but still not real cloud etc Steve

O365 users message from the same organisation going straight to spam

We have a default mail rule of internal mail goes to -1/Bypass on the SCL No doubt you could do some fancy work with why it's getting hit, but as a quick catch-all Steve -
We are just going through the same scenario and have been in contact with Papercut (not the reseller) to ask for a temporary extension, as ours should only be a few days over Guess it may depend on how long you intend to run that day but might be worth dropping papercut support an email Steve

Think you misunderstood my wording, They use their normal accounts on the laptops (outside of exams), but in regards to on the actual exam day, if you're referencing the lockdowns. That's when we're being told they don't need locking down, and need a generic account because they might be given to other students too. I agree if they have a shown need they are provided one, but if we're "not" providing a laptop to a student is my point Steve

Good Afternoon All, A quick question regarding exam laptop allocation. We've recently been told to give 20~ students access to a laptop with their reasoning being - "The students need a laptop due to SEN needs & to show its their normal way of working for exams" - So we've purchased 20 and assigned these as requested on a one-to-one basis. However, now a few weeks gone by and they've decided because so many of those students don't want to use them in normal lessons for writing answers etc, that they want to assign them to another group of 20 students, "but" still want us to allocate exam laptops to the original 20 as well as the new 20. Obviously we've explained that we can't do this, if they're removing the laptop from those students, and assigning it elsewhere it would no longer show it's their normal working and we couldn't give them exam logins. The kind of responses being given include things like - "Because they are not on time constraints during lessons, they can write at their own speed and have refused a laptop" - which references our point that that wouldn't give them a need in the exam on that basis as it isn't their normal way of working and the requirements are very specific in regards to that being a requirement. The second aspect, is because this now gives us another 40~ exam users we need to do proper lockdown accounts etc, as previously they had a bank of laptops to use in exams, but we're being told they don't need full lockdowns and only calc etc blocking (depsite these being full domain joined computers with 100s of software installed including things specifically mentioned like CADCAM/Coding etc), again against exam rules. So we've requested a list of students to setup for exam accounts, and again are being pushed for generic logins who they can assign to who they need on the day based on who's being "using the laptops" over the terms, rather than any list of students who have actually being monitored and using the laptops over the course since it started, rather than a few weeks before the exams start. While we appreciate that it's down to SENCO/EO to sort access arrangements (and have specifically been told it's not for IT to question), this seems a blatant flagrance of the rules that IT aren't happy to setup based on the current responses we're getting, as we'd have no fall-back if queried by inspectors as to why they have the logins Any thoughts? (Especially interested if anyone from a Governors/Exams point-of-view if you need involved in this aspect at all) Thanks, Steve

[ms office - 2016] Excel formula - is this even possible?

Delete the empty cells, and try in Summary (G1): =TRANSPOSE(Staff!$A2:$A46) (46 based on your current columns at least) Steve -
[ms office - 2016] Excel formula - is this even possible?
Steve21 replied to MatthewL's topic in Office Software
Try: =INDEX(Costs!D$2:D$100,MATCH(1,IF(D2>=Costs!A$2:A$100,IF(D2<=Costs!B$2:B$100,1)),MATCH(C2,Costs!C$2:C$100,0))) Pasting it into Issue Log -> J2 (Drag down) Think that'll work if I understood you correctly. The only issue is it'll always default back to the top if it doesn't match anything, so you'll probably notice the Hi Viz Jacket shows the wrong value because you have no dates set on Costs, but that should fix it once you do Steve -
You can use the default search in Wordpress to find addons via the plugin menu and just try a few to see what you like (example below), unless you specifically want to buy an external one that needs licensing etc: I've used the metaslider (top right) previously, but obviously you may prefer a different layout/style Steve

There’s a gallery option in the blocks menu, but it’s fairly basic. Otherwise I normally use a plug-in for more advanced options Steve

Most the free online ones let you put sentences in by default, it doesn't force just a single word. e.g. https://www.wordclouds.com/ just change the "word" list to your longer sentences Or did you mean by putting a huge text in and it automatically works it out? Steve
-
I thought individuals still could upload but not if forced as admin. But couldn’t you just setup a Google site and host the image public but not really public? Steve

Was on 8.5.61, same issue occurred on at least one client I've found today since upgrading to the latest version 8.5.82 Steve
-
Did you design that? If so what in?!? Steve
-
Yep raised the same issue with them last year and have got nowhere with it since Only suggestion from then has been to disable the impero guardian service to test it, seems less issues occurring but certainly not “right” in any means Super annoying as even the restart of services doesn’t always fix it and requires machines restart, which is controlled my Impero for us normally.: evil cycle of pain! Let me login on a pc and copy paste the links rather than typing Right so -> Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run Which should have TeamsMachineInstaller and Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run Which should have com.squirrel.Teams.Teams Should be able to copy/paste those above into regedit directly Steve
-
It runs from appdata, but the installer is in program files if deployed via 365 Or are you deploying it separately? Did you def check the wow6432node bit? Not just current version The other bit that makes it run (but you’d need the one I mentioned above to install it in the first place) is under HKCU software Microsoft windows currentversion run And then it’s com.squirrel.teams.something But that should only get populated if installed by the machine installer in the first place Steve

Service Login Failed - Classroom mode

How old is the version you deployed? They did an update on December that broke old versions Is it 1.81 orhigher? Steve -
Generally two aspects is how many connections you need, and how long it needs to run for (as in all the equipment on it in terms of watts etc). Is this for a quick 5 min power blip? Or to power it for a whole day? Etc Obviously there’s lots of extras you can get like network management, temperate sensor etc etc but at the base those are the two that really count Steve
-
The reg key it sets up to install Teams per user also makes it auto start (or used to when I last updated our deployments) It’s under (assuming 64bit): HKLM software wow6432node Microsoft currentversion run And it’s the TeamsMachineInstsller key that makes Teams run and if not installed then install Steve
