Spent the whole day yesterday watching season 1 of stranger things....I HIGHLY recommend it if anyone hasn't seen it!

Anyone here able to access securenet today? My sims admin is complaining that it won't load, i've had a look and it looks to me like the site is just down, but it would be good if someone could confirm that?

"Its Learning" here. It costs a lot of money, for very little benefit to the school. A useless money drain that's been put in place purely to tick a couple of boxes.

Disabling UAC should be considered a temporary work around, not a solution.

Yes it was down, please make sure it doesn't happen again @DaveP it's your responsibility now! (It always was, didn't you know?!)

Virtualbox + image for programming classes
mrbios replied to mwbutler's topic in How do you do....it?
Revisiting my issue with the Virtual folder not mapping on startup... When the VM is started up, the drive doesn't map, yet the folder is created (be it GP or script, both work to create the folder) the VM then starts up with no drive. If i shutdown the VM, then start it back up again i get exactly the same issue...the only way i can make it work is if i startup the VM, then restart the VM (so virtualbox never closes) the drive them maps correctly after the restart. Anyone had this issue? It's frustrating me! I've tried installing the virtualbox extensions and guest additions stuff but that didn't help. -
Anyone had this issue before: All our new year 7s are coming up with an additional parent of "Parent/Guardian" so when they go to print off the codes for those kids they're coming out with an additional code for that parent/guardian user. I've looked through a students details and associated parents for any odd information in sims but i can't find anything wrong. Any ideas where that's coming from?

Network crash - Smoothwall, Switches or Server! Help!
mrbios replied to TMBS's topic in Wired Networks
Two of my most hated words in networking, and you've combined them! If it's not the smoothwall (i assume it's acting as your internal router in this case?) A loop wouldn't surprise me. -
I made use of the paid day off to move house (additional to annual leave) 6 out of 10 years working where i am (I moved faaaar too much)

We only recently (this summer) left them. In the beginning they had some dreadful problems, i think the first month of the service we had less service uptime than we did down, support was frustrating etc. They turned that around and seemed to improve a great deal. The guys in the NOC are brilliant, but the first line support i still found to often seemed very disinterested. I also ended up feeling that the hosted firewall/filtering solution wasn't anywhere near as good as an onsite solution for a site our size. My overall opinion is that there's room for improvement. You wouldn't be making a mistake going with them as an ISP, however I'd be reluctant to recommend the hosted firewall/filtering options unless cost is the number 1 driving factor behind your decision.

Thanks, that definitely seems like the sort of thing a hybrid setup should be doing automatically (Like it does the other way around!!) Cheers Microsoft! >_<

Ahh ok, so presumably i just need to essentially ask the kind people at salamander to adjust their scripts to write into the AD email field at the same time as the account is created. How about still being able to create exchange mailboxes when an O365 mailbox exists? Feels like something should be blocking that from being able to happen...
-
When new users are created, which happens thanks to salamander, they're automatically licensed in O365 and created a mailbox, however doing it this way (only just moved students into O365 this summer) the email field in AD doesn't get populated. Is there something i need to do in order for this to happen? Is it even possible? Currently it seems to be possible for me to create a local mailbox for a user even when one exists in O365 already, so I think i've done something wrong in the hybrid setup, but no idea what at the moment?

Exchange/O365 Hybrid - Someone messed up an account
mrbios replied to mrbios's topic in Cloud Services
Ignore this, the solution was the old "Include inheritable permissions" checkbox in their AD account, as soon as i ticked and applied that, all started working as expected. -
I've no idea how my esteemed colleagues managed this, but one of them created a staff account and mailbox on friday, and managed to somehow make an office 365 and exchange account for the same user.....So external emails were going into the O365 mailbox, and internal were going into the exchange mailbox. Deleted the user, got rid of her entirely, recreated her this morning and mail is all ending up in one place now. However now when logging into OWA it will not let me login as just "username" it tells me a mailbox doesn't exist for this user. If i login as "[email protected]" OR "[email protected]" it works fine! >_< what the hell has happened here and how can i resolve this? User account settings all appear perfectly fine! The error: X-ClientId: 2AA9108823934CA4BDCA950841D94035 X-OWA-Error: Microsoft.Exchange.Clients.Owa2.Server.Core.OwaADUserNotFoundException X-OWA-Version: 15.0.1178.6 X-FEServer: EXCHANGE X-BEServer: EXCHANGE Date: 05/09/2016 11:23:29 EDIT: oh ok, domain\user works as well, even though i gives me the message "A mailbox couldn't be found for ARCHWAY\USERNAME. If the problem continues, contact your helpdesk"

I'm using one of these: Das Keyboard 4 Professional Mechanical Keyboard Really nice to type on, not flashy (can't stand stuff from the likes of razer for example), feels very well built. Quieter to type on than the corsair one i had a while back, but not as silent as a non-mechanical by any means.....and I'm really fussy with always having media controls so that i can control music while i game EDIT: This one is Cherry MX brown keys, the corsair one i had previously were blacks.

Just this week enabled SSO for all our staff, however when someone starts working on Nova T6 it asks for SQL login details....having never touched Nova T6 (or T4 for that matter, thankfully) i have no idea how this works. Are people using Nova-T6 going to need an additional login to authenticate to that which isn't domain connected, or is there a way to link T6 logins to a sims login?
-
I've noticed since setuping up ADFS and enabling SSO with office365 that office 2013 now signs the user automatically so they can just select their one drive to open or save from without issue, however I'm hoping to ban/block the use of pen drives entirely by forcing everyone to use their onedrive accounts instead. Can only do that once i get a drive mapped though Spoke to iamcloud earlier, apparently their minimum purchase limit has gone up this year from £750 to £1500 or something along those lines. However i mentioned that I'm only after one function of their product and that all the other features were surplus to requirements....he's gone away to speak to his manager and will be getting back to me about a cheaper price and seeing if they can do something for cloud drive mapper only. Not holding my breath on that one though. The problem i had with the OneDriveMapper script is that it all runs through perfectly fine, but when it gets to the map drive part the logs say access denied when it tried to run the net use command, however if i enable "Map network drive" in group policy i can manually enter the path and it maps fine...so I'm at a loss for what permissions the script needs to do that (always worked fine in the past when we used to have login scripts doing the drive mappings opposed to group policy preferences.)
-
So I've tried and failed at getting the OneDriveMapper script by Liebensraum working. Seems it needs permissions that i simply can't give. iamcloud seems too expensive considering we only want to map a users one drive and not all the other bells and whistles that they offer. (They don't happen to do a special price for cloud drive mapper only do they? Nothing listed on their site) Are there any other solutions anyone here's using to map one drives? Or anyone got the OneDriveMapper script working successfully with heavily restricted users?

Roughly 40 new network points installed in varying locations around the school New fibre optics between each of the buildings leading back to central location (yay no more patched OM1 junk!) New switches, those new fibers are now running at 10GB/s New internet connection gone in place too, same speed as before but new provider and back to using in house equipment for firewall and filtering. 50 Aerohive wireless APs installed to those new network points Configured 63 voip phones Setup freepbx Installed all the phones into various locations, and had a couple of new network cable runs to areas that had none....still got one of those left to do (stupid swimming pool) phone lines transferred over from our IDSN30 to SIP last friday, that's a tidy £3800 a year saved, and no more nasty digital/analog phones! moved all 1200+ student mailboxes into office 365 4 new doors gone on to the paxton system as well, the whole of 6th form are going to be getting ID badges this september, which should prove interesting. Next up: Setup sims to be single sign on Setup VLE to be single sign on (just realised, they never called me today and should have!) Testing out a new printer and photocopier sometime this week and for the duration of September at no cost (Ink based printers and photocopiers! but it's not as bad as you'd think, if the sales bumf is to be believed....i'll have to report back on this one if anyone is interested) All that, and we found a ferret on site, that was a fun day.

I bought this on steam, played 86 minutes, then got a refund. All the exploration of a vast ocean, but the game has all the depth of a puddle.
-
I haven't really kept up with information on this game, but have the devs promised to add more content? The general opinion I've gathered about it so far is that it's best described as the size of an ocean but the depth of a puddle.
