I don't think GPPs are in place as the DC is an old 2003 server and GPPs weren't used then were they? The backup DC is 2008 but I think it just picks up the policies from the older server. I can see policies relating to staff and student IE settings but nothing about SSL\TLS

Hello Having recently signed up to this site the school is now experiencing issues accessing it. Only when the students are logged to the PCs does it flag up a security certificate error, all is well under a staff login. The students can get the home page of methodmaths but the error occurs when they type in their login details for the site, if they click continue they are prompted to login again and it does work. Is there anything I can do to just get it to work properly the first time? I'm guessing it isn't a problem with the site as surely this would happen regardless of staff\student logon. I thought maybe it was a proxy server thing with the student traffic going out through port 8083 but if logon as myself then try and access the site through this port there is still no error. Any advice welcome, thank you

Hello I was looking into updating our version of HAP+ as we have a new website and thought a new version would look more modern alongside it. So I downloaded HAP+ V10 and extracted all the files then simply copied all of them apart from App Data into the HAP+ location but this did not work. Is it more complicated than this? I don't know a lot about it as I didn't set it up originally. I took a backup of the original files and folders and have put them back so the old version is still working for now. Thank you

Hello This is probably quite a basic question for anybody who knows but I am wondering which permissions should be set at which level to enable multiple staff to edit one document. For example a document inside a folder on a shared drive...are permissions set on the file, folder or drive? Obviously I know the security group that teaching staff belong to. Thank you

Hello I think my last place had a pretty good setup employing somebody to be 'Web Services Manager' and basically deal with the back and forth between the design company and SLT and then to update and maintain the site upon completion. It took a bit of the strain off of the tech team too as things like SLG and VLE were also dealt with by the web services manager.

I'm over that hurdle now, I did indeed just add the IP address of the Dans Guardian box to the proxy bypass list and the pages in question came to life. Even though i previously said I didn't think it could be IE related I'm going to roll it back to version 9. Maybe the server and clients have to be on the same version? Maybe the version of IE on the server determines the behaviour of certain group policies, Active X springs to mind particularly as the problematic content is Flash based.

I hope you can see that, I'm not even sure if it's a relevant section of Dans Guardian. It just seemed strange to me and I thought perhaps it was part of a bigger problem.

I tried that but it made no difference. I did notice that parts of the Dans Guardian system itself are being blocked by the council filter. According to them none of the URLs that make up Dans Guardian appear in their logs but we have a high number of denied access attempts which apparently suggests Dans Guardian is being bypassed?

Hello If anybody out there has any experience with Dans Guardian perhaps they can help me as I am convinced it is the root of a current problem. Student traffic here at the school is first directed to a Linux PC running Dans Guardian before being sent out on port 8083 to the council. Everything was working well until recently when students could no longer access the interactive textbooks on the Kerboodle site. So to test this I logged on as a student and changed the internet connection properties to bypass the internal filter and go straight out on 8083 and it worked. I cannot figure out what it is about Dans Guardian that could be stopping the content from loading, I don't appear to be having issues with any other sites and naturally it works if staff are logged onto the PC because their traffic only goes through the council proxy to begin with. At first i thought it might be a group policy thing as I did around the same time rollback and then upgrade IE on the backup DC but this seems unlikely now. I accept from recent reading that Dans Guardian has pretty much been unsupported for years but don't know if this would affect its configuration\functionality. If anybody can shine a light on this it would be very helpful. Thank you

Hello We went with School Website having previously had a Joomla site, I picked up the project 75% of the way through with the new head and it was just really a lot of effort to get anything changed even at the design stage because it had 'already been agreed'. These other posts are right, Fluency is restrictive is what you can customise forcing you to contact School Website and be charged for most changes. Cleverbox designed the website at my last place and that turned out really rather well.

Yes exactly i am suspecting similar behaviour. Luckily i took notes on all the original GPO configurations before enabling offline files and have disabled everything again now just to monitor the difference. I'm thinking maybe I could just enable offline files on a per laptop basis? Should there be an offline files cache on the server I could delete to free up space?

In total there are roughly 700 users and the total capacity of the server is 1.25TB Yes in the summer two new servers are making there way to me but it won't last that long Only two weeks ago I had 165GB free space and now it's down to 115GB, this Tree Size looks like a good option

Hello Our file server is Windows Server 2003 and contains many shared drives, student area, staff area and all user documents. At the moment it just seems to be running out of space regularly. I'm wondering if it could be because offline files is configured for all users? Any advice would be welcome Thank you

Hello I am wondering if anybody can tell me why some users have a long list of files in their My Documents called Trace_*.txt I would like to know what they are, where they might have come from and if I should get rid of them. I suspect they may be slowing down file searches in the user areas giving the appearance that previously saved files are no long available. I posted here as our file server is 2003. Hello I don't have security settings applied in that way all I can see in Group Policy regards IE9 for all the computers is a policy referring to Compatibility View-Use list of Internet Explorer 7 sites and Internet Control Panel-Security Page-Site to zone assignment list As far as I know these have always been in place. The only other change I made a little while ago was to roll back from IE10 to 9 on the server to enable some proxy configuration options in group policy but I've put it back to version 10 now.

Hello I'm not sure if I am posting this is the right area but for some reason our student accounts have developed a problem displaying certain content on the web such as the Dropbox homepage or Kerboodle content. Everything is still working fine for staff logons. Is it likely to be port related and maybe a problem with the local authority? Thank you in advance

Not to complicate matters but when I talk of these services not working I am talking about them on our intranet page, this is the page we see when loading internet explorer which has these features built in and a URL of intranet.schoolname.thurock.sch.uk The intranet page itself however has its own A record pointing at a different server on which I can see a site called Intranet installed to IIS and this has the same folder names in it referring to the services which stop The intranet page also has a link to the website and it is this I am using when I say I see the old site but even doing a Google search produces the old site so I'm guessing the problem is still somehow linked to the entry in the bypass proxy list. What does it all mean?

Lets go back a step, I was too quick there Those services have stopped working, where they should be on the page I just get 'Internet Explorer cannot display the page' I also have an error message regarding a logon script

www. does still work but I am seeing the old website still

So far so good, I now have the www2 entry and deleted the www entry At this stage I have no errors and the services I speak of are still working. Correct me if I am wrong but I now create the CNAME record?

Right so I will delete the www record now and report what happens
