Hello This may be a general problem but does anybody know why when viewing 'Office-My Account' online none of the downloads have any specific information relating to the install? All we see is a list of products with the date it was registered\installed but if you've completed more than one install that day it becomes confusing as there are no details relating to PC name or even a time to go by so re-installing becomes a problem. Is this right or is there a way of enabling this? From screenshots I've seen on Microsoft sites the information should be there. Any help welcome, thank you

Hello I've resolved it, probably not the right way round to do things but I just set the Year2015 group to universal instead of global then Exchange found it when I ran the 'Add Distribution List' wizard and pointed it at the right OU. Then I just set the Year2015 group back to Global. Thanks for your help.

Hello again Sorry but whereabouts am I looking for this checkbox or msExchHideFromAddressLists? Changing to a universal group didn't appear to make a difference but the others aren't set this way anyhow. I've set up other distribution groups through Exchange without problems but the ones I speak of here were pre-exisiting and other entries in the Exchange distribution list appear to have been automatically created from security groups.

Hello On our Exchange 2010 distribution lists I can see security groups\distribution groups that have been setup on the domain controller. They follow a Year2011, Year2012, Year2013, Year2014, Year2015 pattern in the OU on the domain controller and as far as I know the Exchange server picked these up automatically up to the Year2014 group but it doesn't display the Year2015 group and as such the group does not appear in the Global Address List. I'm sure I setup the Year2015 group on the DC just like the others so does anybody have any idea why it wouldn't be displayed in the distribution lists on the Exchange server? I've tried adding it manually only to be told it already exists or that it can't search the OU I'm pointing at. Thank you

I don't know how it behaves on a fresh image but I will test it. I have however used a new laptop which my test user has never logged on to because I thought maybe it was related to the Outlook 2010 profile on his devices but I still had the same errors having installed Office 2016 and logging him on for the first time.

On my PC where it is working I uninstalled Office 2010 and installed Office 2016 so I followed the same steps on the 2nd PC but had the problems described. Then I did try installing it as an upgrade but still had the same problems.

Apologies I've just noticed an error in my first post, I meant to say I'm trying to move from Office 2010 (Outlook 2010) to Office 2016 (Outlook 2016) and our Exchange server is 2010. I got the errors described here https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3098831 which is where I got the clue about auto-discover but as I say Outlook 2010 is using auto-discover to setup the profiles now so I find it hard to believe this is the problem. Could it be linked to permissions in any way?

Hello Well what happened was the IT teacher went ahead and got himself and all the students setup with Dropbox. The practicality of it? We are a small school with only 1 IT teacher who only ever teaches in one room so yes all of his students were to log on to the Dropbox app. Due to some historical\aging problems with the Windows image and Group Policy the school has been stuck on Internet Explorer 9 for a while which does appear to be causing some problems with the Dropbox web interface\uploader. In terms of content control, I'm not exactly sure what the IT teacher did but he can see the students Dropbox folders to leave and collect work. You mention MS and Google services that sync with AD, is this One Drive and Google Drive?

Hello Our IT department are keen to extend their use of Dropbox, the idea is it will be installed on the workstations and then the students will sign in with their Dropbox accounts which have already been setup. At the moment there are no problems with staff using Dropbox this way but the students receive a 'No Internet Connection' error. As far as I'm concerned it's not our internal firewall preventing access so I forwarded the page from Dropbox FAQs concerning firewall and port configuration to the local authority. Has anybody else had or overcome this problem?

Hello I am just enquiring as to whether anybody knows of any problems likely to occur from moving to Outlook 2016 from Outlook 2016 while using an Exchange 2010 server? I have carried out 1 test install of Office 2016 on my own machine and Outlook still worked but when doing so for a member of teaching staff I could not get Outlook 2016 to create a profile. I'm wondering if there are some necessary steps to configure the server? I read that there is no longer an option to manually configure settings for Outlook 2016 as it relies on auto-discover but this has always worked for Outlook 2010 here.

Hello This is one of those 'everything else' questions so I wasn't sure where to post it. With open evening coming up the school is looking at ways to capture potential parent\pupil reaction. So far the best the idea I've come up with is a simple survey using something like Survey Monkey if the tour guides had a tablet to ask questions like overall tour rating (1-5), overall school impression (1-5), leave a number\e-mail for follow up etc. Does this sound good or does anyone already have a better system for this sort of thing?

Hello As we are migrating to a new 2012 server I thought I would delete any unnecessary OUs and objects but don't want to remove anything vital. I came across a container called MOMLatencyMonitors and in it is another container called SERVERX which is empty. Is it safe to delete the SERVERX and MOMLatencyMonitors containers? Perhaps if somebody could tell me what MOMLatencyMonitor is? Thank you

My case for using Pupil Premium is being heard at the moment. Had a lovely walking tour of the school with the Deputy Head looking at all the cabinets and explaining why the switches\cabling need upgrading plus which areas would benefit from having data points installed.

Hello Having recently had a turnover in printers we have been provided with a range of Kyocera models, some of which are multi-function (TaskAlfa 266Ci). In areas where these printers are networked everything is working well, I setup scanning through the browser interface and created various address book entries pointing at different users documents. However some of these are USB and I am told that they do not scan over USB unless there is some 3rd party software involved as Kyocera do not provide their own. Does anybody have any suggestions? Preferably something that scans to PDF. Thank you

Hello again I think I'm making this whole upgrade more complicated than it needs to be Earlier in the week I renamed hapconfig.xml in the existing AppData folder then copied all the files for version 10 over (apart from AppData), this looked promising as when I followed our existing HAP link it presented me with a setup page and created a new blank hapconfig.xml in AppData. So I left it there and copied everything back to its original working state thinking I would return another day and do the same only first I would login and open the existing HAP+ Config interface on a laptop so I could see all the existing settings on the form then go through the process described above on a PC, be presented with the new blank form and fill it in. However I've gone to do this and instead of now getting the new HAP+ config options I get an access denied error for hapconfig.xml. It did cross my mind that maybe I was trying to jump too many versions from 7.9 to 10 but I tried just going to 7.10 and it still didn't work. So I've resolved that I should just set it all up again from scratch but can't find written or video instructions for V10, can you point me in the right direction please?

I agree with the point regarding more experienced teachers being replaced with younger members of staff. I think the younger members of staff expect to be able to do more from the start, maybe because it's the way they were trained. I see it as a good thing though, the more people there are demanding a certain system the more ammunition I have to demand the funding to implement. I think the rise in expectation level is part of what keeps a network moving forward. As for the original question I would say yes here staff are confident in the use of IT or they are at least confident (sometimes overly) in my ability to fix it should it go wrong. I do see some instances though of departments trying to keep up or move forward just because another department did the same without having the same genuinely good ideas for using something new, iPads were a classic example of that here as departments looked to use up left over money without really considering how they would use them to any great benefit. For training purposes I try to produce written step by step guides to things on a regular basis, just finished a Basic\Intermediate and Advanced Guide to Excel 2010

I think though applying for additional funds internally without being able to suggest where the funds might come from could be fruitless as management would surely just point to the numbers already produced. I've just been reading about how Devolved Formula Capital funding or Pupil Premium funding can be used to justify these projects here https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/capital-allocations and here https://schoolleaders.thekeysupport.com/administration-and-management/la-funds/funding-for-facilities-and-site-development/ict-equipment-sources-of-funding I agree that every aspect of the network should have a set lifespan but this can be very difficult to stick to when you take over somewhere new and find out the age of different equipment and that the previous network manager has not stuck to those timespans leaving a number of things due for renewal at once. Some our switches are still running at 10/100 and not all of the cabs have fibre. My last place underwent academy conversion even though it was a good school but still the money that was thrown at the network was unbelievable and I suppose this is the only way really to implement mass projects that have an immediate impact for everybody.

See I've started something now : ) On a similar note I do remember the site team at my last place going through this process of applying for a fraction of funds available but I don't know the details and obviously that was for buildings maintenance.

Hello I'm probably posting this in totally the wrong place but it seemed like the least specific\technical area. Does anybody know if there is such a process as being able to apply for additional funding if it's going to be used on network upgrades? I'm trying to justify\afford ripping out all of the switches\cabling and having it put back to a modern day standard (£25,000). Strange request I know but any advice would be good.

Another vote for PaperCut even if we are running a slightly older version it's never given me a problem.

Hello Sort of hoping for a quick response here. I've come in this morning to find one of the switches sort of just frozen with all its LEDs on permanently so I pulled the power and put it back but now it doesn't seem to be booting, the only light that comes on is the FDx permanently. Has anybody seen this before? I want to avoid replacing the switch if I can. Thank you

Hello With pending summer upgrade work I have been taking a lot of advice with regards to licencing. This school prior to my arrival it would seem has always bought the required licensing outright but I had a couple of sales phone calls with reference to EES and it just seems too good an alternative to be true. Apparently it's going to cover the required client access licenses for the servers being replaced this year (but I still have to pay for 2 server 2012 licences separately) and then next year when we come to upgrade Windows and Office we just pay the EES subscription again and that covers all of those required licenses. The only down side I could see is that if one year there is no development work then we're basically just paying to retain licences but I suppose this is offset by access to the latest upgrades as they are available. Does that sound right or have I been lied to?
