Ok but surely I haven't actually created www2.schoolname.thurrock.sch.uk yet? To my mind I have to make this URL exist and move the services (presumably the folders from the apache path above) to it?
-
Ok I am going to go through this step by step so stick with me in case I get stuck...so: 1.On the DNS server in the schoolname.thurrock.sch.uk forward lookup zone I am creating a new A record called www2 with the IP of the internal server
-
Ok if I create a new A record I am asked for the name of it and the FQDN is greyed out, whatever I type in the name box automatically precedes the FQDN Now I know at this point you're wondering how I can be finding it so difficult but to me creating a new record such as internal.schoolname.thurrock.sch.uk means those services have to exist at internal.schoolname.thurrock.sch.uk which they don't because they exist at http://www.schoolname.thurrock.sch.uk
-
Ok I think it's starting to make more sense. So moving the services seems like a better idea but does this involve creating a new forward lookup zone or just a new domain within the existing schoolname.thurrock.sch.uk forward lookup zone? I also don't have any control over what the external server looks at, that I presume is down to the hosting company and the county council.
-
Yes the new site is hosted outside of the school by the design company, our URL has always been and remains http://www.schoolname.thurrock.sch.uk The suggestion from their tech guys was that I need to create a CNAME record pointing at schoolname.fluencycms.co.uk but again this somewhat goes over my head. Our other internal services have the same URL followed by /something as you mention, for example the room booking service is /mrbs or the network status feature /monitor Now on the web server if I go here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Apache Software Foundation\Apache2.2\htdocs\WWW I can see folders named mrbs, monitor and such so I assume they are installed to the server

Hello I am posting this query here as our file server is 2003. The problem is only affecting one user and at first I thought perhaps they were making an error, but having tested and seen for myself I do not think this is the case. Sometimes when the user saves a file (PowerPoint mostly) it will not immediately appear in their documents. For example if they go to attach it to an e-mail or even search for it in their documents. I even tested this by arranging their files in date order. But then give it until later in the day or even the next morning and there it is. Has anybody seen or heard of this before? Thank you

Hello I haven't made any changes to my internal DNS due to lack of knowledge and skill. In the DNS setup I have a forward lookup zone called school.county.sch.uk for example and in here is a Host A record called www pointing at the web server, if I remove this record then the other services I speak of stop working. Our intranet page is only accessible in school but everything else such as VLE, HAP+ and the website itself have always been accessible outside the school as well. Thanks for picking this up, hope the information helps.

Hello I am going to repeat myself with regards to the new website problem as I am getting nowhere. As mentioned in other posts our new school website does not appear inside the school unless the address is removed from the bypass proxy list but this stops other web based features we have from running. With the exception in the list we just see the old Joomla site hosted on the internal web server and I have tried to read about redirecting but it all made very little sense to me. The new website does work outside of the school because the county council made the relevant DNS changes. Is there a simple way around this? Thank you
-
Hello Yes it is the website I am trying to redirect, the home page we see in our browser is all working fine. As far as I can tell the existing website is hosted internally or at least the content management system for it sits on our web server. The new site is being externally hosted so our local authority processed some DNS changes their side allowing the new site to be viewed outside of the school. However inside the school through group policy Internet Explorer is configured to bypass the proxy for our web address, lets say http://www.school.county.sch.uk. If I remove this entry from the bypass proxy settings then we do indeed see the new site but weirdly other systems such as our room booking form stop working. On the DNS server I have a forward lookup zone for school.county.sch.uk and in here is a Host A entry called www which to the best of my knowledge has something to do with all this but I don't know enough to figure out what I should be doing with it. Apologies if any of that isn't clear.

Hello I have posted my various issues surrounding this problem in other places of the forum but perhaps have complicated matters. Forgetting any other services that we may use all I am trying to do is get the PCs to go off and look for the new website instead of the old one. To me this has to be relatively simple but perhaps I'm not looking in the right place or going about it the wrong way. If anybody has anything to offer on the matter please feel free. Thank you in advance

New Website-Internal Redirect
Bankesy replied to Bankesy's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
You may have pointed me in the right direction with this, I thought if I'm reinstalling why not re-install the latest version? Went through the process and got to the setup which made me think there must be a setup for the existing version and so have found the config page which contains proxy server settings. I can remove the proxy server settings for HAP but cannot save it as I get the following error message: Server Error in '/HAP' Application. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Input string was not in a correct format. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.FormatException: Input string was not in a correct format. Source Error: An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Hello We have recently launched a new website hosted externally to the school whereas the old one was internally hosted. Initially we could not see the new one while in the school but then I discovered a group policy defining that the proxy should be bypassed for our address, say http://www.testschool.testcounty.co.uk So I removed this entry from the policy and sure enough we now see the new website. However we also use something call Home Access Plus which has a room booking system built in and removing the above entry has caused this to stop working. Now I have determined that Home Access Plus is installed to another of our servers by IIS so I want to know how I can tell IIS or that system to still look internally while retaining the external website. Any ideas or help greatly appreciated Thank you in advance

Hello I am having difficulty understanding DNS and the records within following the implementation of a new school website, it used to be internally hosted now it is externally hosted. However inside the school we still see the old site but outside everybody can see the new one following the DNS change request processed by Thurrock County Council. So my best guess is we cannot see the new one internally due to some sort of DNS problem. Where I have got to so far: 1.-On the DNS server I have found the forward lookup zone for testschool.county.sch.uk 2.-Inside here is a 'www' Host (A) entry which has our website address for a fully qualified domain name and the IP of our webserver According to the hosting company I am required to create a CNAME Alias record for testschool.testcms.co.uk However when I attempt this inside the forward lookup zone the fully qualified domain name box is greyed out and reads testschool.county.sch.uk and simply adds as a prefix whatever I type as the name for the record. I try to use www and testschool.testcms.co.uk for the name and fully qualified domain name of the target host but get an error message which I assume is due to there being an a Host (A) record with the same name. I did try deleting the www Host (A) record but this stopped other things from working. Can anybody tell from that description what I might be doing wrong? All help appreciated, thank you in advance.

Hello Just out of curiosity did you do the SOLUS 3\SQL upgrade yourself or was a Capita engineer involved? I've been using SOLUS 3 for a while and not come across that error message but I do know that my clients pick up an update when they are switched on if it was deployed while they were off. In this scenario my SOLUS 3 console usually tells me the update was partially successful. I know that recently there was an update to SOLUS 3 itself and the SOLUS 3 agents, maybe it would be worth checking this. The initial Autumn 2 update got pulled I believe and re-released so maybe just check that too. Sorry if any of the above sounds like really simple advice.

Hello Having recently migrated to Exchange 2010 I am experiencing a problem when attempting a backup using Backup Exec 2014. I get the following error message: 'The consistency check of the snapshot for the Microsoft Exchange database has failed. You should check for possible data corruption in the Exchange Server that is online' Now I did read somewhere that it may be as simple as turning off the option to 'Use Snapshot Technology' under the 'Advanced Open File Options' in Backup Exec but this has made no difference. So then I was advised to run Eseutil on the mailboxes which in this case are grouped by year and luckily I have some no longer used so I can test in on those (I had rather hoped the problem might be in one of them so I deselected them from the backup but it still failed). Having read about Eseutil it just seems very complex to me with a lot of different options that look like they could do a lot of damage if not used right. Can anybody explain to me the simplest option to use and how to go about it? Any help greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

They are just standard users on the network

Hello I hope I am posting this in the right section, some of you probably helped out when I posted all about Offline Files here. Well having managed to get that working the staff can now take their laptops home and view their work, however whilst at home and logged in with the cache profile they do not have the right to carry out tasks such as installing printers? Is this to be expected or can something be done? Any help greatly appreciated.

Hello Does anybody know if the following is possible: Teachers would like to be able to set a level in Excel based on the result of another column. For example if any of the cells C2 to C10 contain a value of 5-10 or 11-15 and so on then the cells D2 to D10 appear with the level that mark relates to. Any ideas welcome.

Hello I'm sure I'll be doing something really silly here but I'm trying to move from the 2013 to 2014 version. The 2013 version is installed as part of the deployed image, shortcut sits in a subject specific folder on the Start Menu with no desktop icons. Having downloaded and installed the new version though it a creates new folder on the Start Menu and produces the desktop icons. I thought it might update in place and the existing shortcut would then point to the 2014 version.

Glad you guys made me look in the right place : ) It's a relatively new network to me, didn't even realise there were quotas in place but a quick Google search on how to check such a thing and I found the entries. Fairly self explanatory and problem already solved.

Hello I seem to be facing an unusual error whereby just one particular user account is told there is low space on the home area and 2 other map drives when logging on. Everybody else is absolutely fine. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance

Hello Does anybody know of a way to import staff timetables from SIMS to their Outlook calendars? Capita say it's not possible but I was going to try exporting to Excel then converting to CSV for import.
-
Hello Does anybody know if it is possible to accept and invite to a calendar which is not linked to the inbox of which the invite was sent? For example our Head's PA can see her own inbox\calendar and that of the Head's. Sometimes a meeting request\invite will be sent to the PA inbox but is actually for the Head, is there a way the PA can accept it but assign to the Head's calendar? Any help or advice on this will be appreciated. Sorry forgot to mention I'm talking about Outlook 2010 here.

Hello When I look inside the policy I can see no item level targetting has been applied. Changing the action to create didn't help either.
-
Hello No under Scope all I have is Authenticated Users. Yes it is set by preferences, do I perhaps need to change the action from Update to Create?
