What I'm getting at is do the PCs not use ActiveSync to retrieve e-mail or is ActiveSync purely a mobile protocol? If it is a protocol should I not expect to see it in the protocol list under the server name in Exchange System Manager?
-
Yes well this being a school I have contacted the ISP and reported this so they can look into it. This might seem like a silly question but do the domain PCs not require ActiveSync? I have no problems with any PCs picking up email.

Hello alanhardisty I have printed off your instructions and begun to follow them. At step 2 on canyouseeme.org when testing port 443 the error I get is the connection timing out, is this the same as it not being open?
-
Hello I back the ESET AV, currently running it in this school with clients both on and off the domain with no updating issues
-
Getting closer I think... I ran that test and as expected it failed but I read here Exchange ActiveSync and Outlook Mobile Access errors occur when SSL or forms-based authentication is required for Exchange Server 2003 that there can be a problem with ActiveSync if Forms Based Authentication is turned on which for us it is due to using OWA. Is it safe to turn it off? I have found Microsoft Server ActiveSync in Exchange System Manager under Protocols>HTTP but all its properties were greyed out. So I went exploring in IIS where again I found Microsoft Server ActiveSync, this time with editable properties but didn't want to touch them. Any of this mean anything?
-
Hello Thank you both for your help so far, I really think we might be going in the right direction but if you don't mind I have a couple more questions: 1. With regards to ActiveSync-is this something that should be installed on the Exchange server? I see in Mobile Services>Properties that everything to do with Exchange ActiveSync is enabled but no mention of it in Add\Remove Programs. I found this download: Download ActiveSync 4.5 from Official Microsoft Download Center but thought I would ask first. 2. The Petri Article-I found the IMAP service which was disabled so took the steps to enable it and run automatically, now step 4 of my original post doesn't occur and in step 5 the Mail option is no longer greyed out. However still when accessing the Mail app the 'Connection to the server failed' message still appears. I did notice that the POP3 service was also disabled, could this be part of the problem? Your thoughts are welcome

Hello again Perhaps I should have explained I'm really new at this and not entirely familiar with the technologies. The only devices that currently pick up e-mail here are the PCs connected to the domain, I have not tried to connect anything other than these iPads.
-
Hello If anybody knows the answer to this it will be great: Configuring an iPad to pick up mail for an Exchange 2003 account has become problematic (I say become but as far as I know it has never worked on this network) What I'm doing: 1. Click on Mail>Exchange 2. Enter my e-mail address and password 3. Enter the server name and my username 4. Then the error message 'Cannot Verify Server Identity' appears with the option to continue anyway 5. Continue>Then presented with the options of Mail, Contacts, Calendars and Reminders with the green tabs but Mail is sort of greyed out 6. Save>Account is added immediately followed by 'Cannot Get Mail-the connection to the server failed' Does anybody know what could be going wrong? I have assumed it is an Exchange error as I have tried multiple up to date iPads. If anybody has any information it would be such a help, thank you in advance

Hello Thank you very much for your response penfold, you really pointed me in the right direction with this and now its all up and running again plus I can access the PC through VNC and it doesn't stop whatever is playing. In case you were wondering, it was only a case of the Xibo Client Options URL and Server Key being correct.
-
Hello Penfold This is very helpful and perhaps you could enlighten me further, see actually Xibo has stopped working altogether for me but for easy posting purposes I explained as above. I have no experience with Xibo and when I started here a short while ago it worked as you described, the PC would auto login and then Xibo would start. However now it doesn't start at all, do you know if I'm right in thinking that it's the Xibo Client Options>Server URL and Server Key that control this? If it is then I've found the server key on the admin web interface for Xibo but no idea what the URL could be. I have asked on the Xibo forum so don't worry if you don't know. On a separate note I did manage to install both Team Viewer and VNC on the PC and get iPlayer working, the only problem is with VNC when I cut the connection the iPlayer stops working. Does anybody know how to stop VNC doing this? With TeamViewer there was an option to not lock the PC on session end but I only have a trial. Thank you

Hello This is a long shot but I have struggled with this and thought I might ask: Here we have a PC in the ceiling connected to a TV and it runs Xibo digital signage software. The software running on the PC now has an error message that requires clearing. I thought it would be possible to remote onto the PC (being that it's in the ceiling) from mine and clear the message. However this does not actually provide control over the PC and I cannot see what's actually running on it because all I get is my particular remote session. Am I being really silly or is there an actual answer to this? Any help greatly appreciated, thank you

Hello Thank you for your reply. I have not completely removed and re-installed the driver from the server, I was trying to avoid this at first due to lack of experience. Do you mean have I physically moved the PC to a different room? Are you thinking this might make a difference because it will be connected to a different switch in effect?

Hello I am hoping that somebody can help with the following situation: In a particular classroom with a particular networked printer the Windows 7 workstations are what I would consider to be slow at detecting the presence of the printer. What I mean by this is: 1. In applications such as Office I will get a 'No Printers Installed' message but after closing down and re-opening it will appear 2. Opening devices and printers from the start menu does not display and printers or faxes for a few minutes but does eventually Here is what I've tried so far: 1. Updating the printer driver 2. Installing the driver manually (not via group policy) to another machine in another room-worked perfectly fine 3. Office repair\uninstall and re-install 4. Running a Microsoft Fix-It which repaired print spooler issues (apparently) 5. Fully updating Windows 6. Hard drive clean up (de-frag\error checking) Conclusions so far: 1. It's not an Office problem 2. It's not a driver problem 3. It's not a PC problem as 3 out of 4 in the room are the same make and model but the symptoms occur on the 1 other machine as well 4. It's not login related as the symptoms occur regardless of staff\student logon One possible hint: the delay I speak of does not occur when logging on locally, only when logging into the network. Any knowledge or suggestions on this are welcome, perhaps and obvious troubleshooting step I've missed?

Hello I am experiencing a problem on a Windows 7 machine when trying to add a networked printer. Initially having chosen the printer I require I get the error message: windows cannot add printer, then if I try again I get the error message about the print spooler service not running. I'm logged on as an administrator and have tried fixes such s restarting and deleting the contents of the Printers and Drivers folders from C:\Windows\System32\Spool but no luck. They are currently no other installed printers on this PC so I suspect its not a driver clash. Any help will be welcome, thank you

Hello This will sound like a very basic question to anybody who knows but I cannot work out how to add a printer to an OU in Server 2003. It is not an R2 version so does not have Print Management under Administrative Tools. However what I can see in many of the OU's is a policy titled 'Win7 Printers' but from here I cannot work out what it is doing or which bit of the policy is actually adding a printer. If anybody knows it would be very helpful, thank you

Hello Is there anybody out there who can help me with a real weak point in my understanding? (even if I am letting the profession down) Having recently started using WPKG it occurs to me that I have very little knowledge of scripting/coding. In this particular instance I am trying to rollout Audacity 2.0.5 onto machines which already have 2.0.3. This is the code from the WPKG wiki page: id="audacity" name="audacity" revision="%version%" priority="1"> The problem is as I say I don't truly understand it and as such am going round in circles trying to figure out which bits of that code I need to change/remove. I apologise if this appears as if I'm trying to get others to do my work but any help in simple terms will be appreciated and I think if i could properly understand one installation I could go on and do others. Thank you

This seems to be more complex than it should be: Yes i have installed it to a network drive and then placed the shortcut to the executable part on the start menu so how comes it doesn't just pick up that everything it needs to run is in that folder where it's installed? Plus I don't appear to have a product key or a Admindeployment.xml file so am I perhaps using the wrong download? Thank you
-
Hello I'm not sure that I'm about to post this entirely in the right area of the forum but here goes anyway: I have installed Visual Studio Express 2013 for Desktop to a shared applications drive and then used WPKG to rollout the shortcut on the clients but when accessing receive the error message: 'The program can't start because MSVCR120.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem' I find this strange given that the application isn't installed to the computer to begin with and that 'missing' file is in the location where Visual Studio is installed. I would use WPKG to rollout Visual Studio to clients but have read of the complexity and issues surrounding this. Any advice will be welcome

Hello I have a question related to creating a path for software as it gets rolled out. Take for example the command: md "%AllUsersProfile%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\IT" xcopy "\\server\folder1\folder2\folder3\Shortcut.LNK" "%AllUsersProfile%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\IT" /h /c /y That is a typical example of the current setup obviously placing shortcuts in the IT folder on the Start Menu but what if I wanted to create a sub folder under IT such as Programming? Do I simply add \Programming to the end of the path or does it already have to exist on the target clients? Any help will would be welcome, thank you in advance

What does the %comspec% bit stand for?

Hello I have another WPKG related question, does anybody out there know of any command that will move a folder from the All Users Start Menu (Win 7) into another folder on the All Users Start Menu? Thank you in advance for any help
-
Hello I'm new to using WPKG and all the command files that go with it, does anybody know if the msiexec command works with .exe files or does it have to be .msi? I can post an example of what I've got if somebody really wants to help. Thank you in advance

Hello I hope I'm posting this in roughly the right area. I am trying to find out if it is a requirement for all schools to have a service such as SIMS Learning Gateway where parents can access the various reports on their children from home? If it is a requirement (which we have been told it is) does anybody know of an alternative service? Our web services manager is currently looking into getting this sort of functionality built into our Its Learning VLE so any advice would be appreciated. Thank you in advance

Hello Does anybody happen to know if there are any particular guidelines relating to the minimum height a server should be raised off the ground? Just curious but thank you in advance if you have the answer.

Thanks for the advice, it worked and looks all pretty with a new logo now : )
