Hello Sorry to post again and I suppose this is mostly directed at DEvans: having read what you put there regards Sync Centre I notice that on the domain PCs that Sync Centre does indeed appear to be running. Looking at my own for example I can see that apparently there have been some recent successful offline synchronisations and when going to 'Manage Offline Files' I can actually see My Documents. Does this mean I'm much closer to a solution that perhaps first thought?

Hello I do appreciate all of your explanations and help but I do need it put in much simpler terms with regards to the policy setting. I have an OU with the staff laptops in and other separate OU's listed by room (Room 500) for example which contain any PCs in that room. I'm a bit lost as to where I should be setting a policy for cached logons and\or offline files. I assume it is based on PC\Laptop and not user? Apologies if my simplicity is frustrating : )

Hello If you have seen my other posts in the another section of the forum regarding Windows Deployment Services Error Message you will see it has now been resolved. That was step 1 in completing the project so we now have an image for staff laptops but as mentioned here they need to sync between home and work. My idea is to create an OU and join the laptops to the domain but how do I turn the user logins into cached logins? I take it this is the correct order to do things and once this is working play about with offline files?

It would appear that the deployment server is indeed 2008 R2, do you have the details of how I might add the driver?

Currently our laptops have nothing to do with the domain or the network, they are simply stand alone for use at home and users only access the network in school. That was useful regarding the cached logons, I shall investigate this. So it is a case of setting each individual user My Documents folder to work offline opposed to using any group policy?

That's right its their My Documents that they wish to see but I'm a bit lost as to how they would sign on to the laptop at home and it would sync. Surely adding a laptop to the domain allows staff to log in as normal for use in school and then when they take it home they have to log in locally? The laptops are running Windows 7 but I'm trying to set it up from server 2003.

Hello When trying to deploy an image to a laptop, I receive an error message informing me that there is no network card driver available in the image but that it could be added to the image. How do I go about this? Thank you

Hello At the start of the month I posted a thread seeking advice on how teacher laptops can be set to sync with the domain, i.e they can see their My Documents at home and if they add to it they can then see the files on the school PC's. Anyway I got myself in a bit of a muddle with exactly what it was that needed doing but having consulted a technician at another school it would appear that the solution is to configure offline files. Does anybody know how I go about this? I imagine the laptops have to be added to the domain and placed in their own OU so offline files can be configured by group policy? Or is it more to do with settings on the user folders? Any advice welcome, thank you in advance

Hello Does anybody know of a way to create a list of new users in Active Directory from file? I have all the new users details in a spread sheet and wondered if there was an easier way than setting them all up manually and individually. Thank you

Hello Everybody here just uses Internet Explorer 10. I've tested in Internet Explorer 8 and the files open in the browser if they don't first require saving. I did already read that article and found the registry entry and the files I refer to aren't in either list, this problem occurs for the simplest of files such as .doc, .docx and .pdf for example.

Hello Does anybody why OWA powered by Exchange 2003 would be doing the following: Basically no attachment is automatically allowed and deemed safe. All messages with attachments come with the warning about being potentially harmful and either have to be saved prior to opening or open following a message regarding security certificate. This is only happening in Outlook Web Access, going through Office Outlook is fine. Is it something simple? Thank you in advance.

Hello again Yes thank you I understand that it is web based but does it seem right that the user has to first go to the school website in order to access it? I thought perhaps it worked like Dropbox for example where something actually gets installed on the laptops? Perhaps it's just easier to put a link on the laptops straight to the HAP page on our website? Apologies if my understanding seems simplistic.

Hello Interesting mention of HAP as it would appear this school (I haven't worked here long) already has this available on the website. Is it perhaps the case that it is not being used correctly on the laptops? Is there client software for HAP or do users just need a link to that page on the website from the desktop? I know which server it is being hosted on but can see no mention of it being installed or which version it might be?

Hello This may be a really far fetched idea but the following has been proposed and I think I've seen something similar implemented but wasn't in on the configuration. Our teachers are issued with laptops for home use and as such are not on the domain but it has been asked if it is possible for whatever they save on these laptops to be accessible on the school domain PC's. I assume this will have something to do with the user profile and\or joining the laptops to the domain? If any body does know how this is possible and what to do then I will gladly listen to any advice. Thank you in advance.

Ok so how can I configure the exchange server that the global address list is duplicated into each users contacts?

Hello Yes I have contact sync enabled for the account on the iPad and the contacts default set to Exchange. I go to Contacts>Groups and have the options: iCloud All iCloud Exchange All Exchange Contacts Suggested Contacts Exchange Global Address List Choosing any combination of these makes no difference, only suggested contacts are synchronising and the GAL is empty unless you do a search. I don't think this is an iOS thing as my Android phone has also not picked up the contacts. Could this be a clue: when using Outlook through Microsoft Office on a PC the mailboxes only appear in the GAL and not in [email protected] contacts. I tested this theory by copying one contact from the GAL to my contacts and it showed up on the iPad.

Hello Well it was almost perfect so I hope this thread is still open and being watched. Everything is working: mail, calendar, everything apart from contacts. The contacts list on the iPad only shows the suggested contacts from exchange. The Exchange Global Address list group on the iPad is empty unless you do a user search in which case they do actually show up. Any ideas on how to get all the contacts to show up in the contact list?

Ideally we are looking for a piece of software to make things look pretty, we currently use Publisher and I know a lot of other schools do to but wondered if there are any alternatives. We did investigate using a media\print company. Any advice welcome, thank you in advance

Hello My personal advice on this for what it is worth is to get a visualiser that integrates with your IWB software (SMART\Promethean) for example. I've always found this easier as it can be launched from software (Notebook\ActivInspire) which is probably already in use. Otherwise it just becomes another bit of software to worry about.

Unbelievable! It's only gone and started working. I took a re-read of your article very closely, line by line just to check everything and here was the problem: Exchange Virtual Directory: Authentication only set to basic and not integrated. Good morning again First of all let me say how grateful I am for all of the responses so far, its all really helpful and I'm learning lots. There was a slight breakthrough yesterday when reading your article (alanhardisty). The part about checking the certificate lead me to realise that I had in fact been using the wrong server name on the test connectivity site. My error came about due to the fact that the exchange server sits on another server (as in not dedicated) and they both have the same name to look at on the screen but the certificate details made me realise it was actually issued to say mail.testschool.testplace.sch.uk Armed with this information I ran the connectivity test again, this time with very different results. There were many green ticks until the end until the following errors occurred: 1. An ActiveSync session is being attempted with the server. Errors were encountered while testing the Exchange ActiveSync session 2. Attempting the FolderSync command on the Exchange ActiveSync session. The test of the FolderSync command failed 3. Exchange ActiveSync returned an HTTP 500 response (Internal Server Error) I have noticed that the ASP.net version is set to 2.0 and not 1.1 as you suggest but I did not want to change this in case something else stops working.

Ok that clears that up. Next question...how to determine the IP address of the Exchange Server? Will it have its own IP address or is it just the IP address of the server running Exchange System Manager?
