Also within Ovi Maps, go into the settings (the spanner icon) > Internet and in the Connection item you can set it to offline. Get a car charger for it though - the GPS isn't very battery friendly.

Certainly on my nokia you can download the relevant maps to it (free from their site) in advance and use it in offline mode.

If you've got a Nokia or Android phone with GPS you can get either OVI Maps (Nokia) or the sat-nav version of Google Maps (Android) for free.

It might be worth clarifying what they mean by "software that can compress files", whether they are wanting archival compression like .zip and not something that can do a lossy compression of Powerpoint/Word files such as Compress, optimize and shrink PowerPoint presentations, Word documents and Excel spreadsheets using PPTminimizer (from a quick google, no idea if it's any good).

It has context menus, so it's not that different to XP's wizard. Plus it can handle the .rar files which our franchise course students keep sending us despite explicit instructions not to.

The legal stance is that the employer has to provide an eye test, and if glasses ("corrective applicances") are required solely for use at the computer, they have to pay the whole lot. If you need glasses for more general use then they're not obliged to make a contribution, but clearly some places are more generous than others.

Also insist on a DSE assessment of your workstation, particularly if you think your eyes might be deteriorating because you're spending all day a computer.

I really hope that when this new law that allows communities to "recall" their MP if they have acted in an inappropriate way comes in somebody finds a loophole that lets you sack an MP who says one thing in a manifesto and then does another thing.
