@hardtailstar What are you using to wipe down the laptops please ? Also was there any discussion about who should be doing the wiping, e.g. were you asked to do it initially? I work in primary so may find it harder to argue pupils should be doing it.

New laptop with no VGA output in a class with VGA only cabling () and old smartboard 4:3 We purchased an adapter to convert HDMI to VGA (not a powered one) and I can duplicate display ok to projector but of course image is small. Teacher wants image to fill the smartboard so I dropped the resolution to 1024x768 and duplicated display but the benq projector still reports to be receiving a full HD signal. Any ideas ?

Just got me thinking, the display listed in windows 10 on the PC was correctly identified as the HP monitor so I guess there must be some sort of communication protocol over the VGA cable between PC and monitor? And this worked through the splitter so why can't projector do the same, i.e. tell PC it's connected and it's display capabilities etc ? Actually I did set up initially without splitter so maybe thats where it ID'ed the HP monitor but still recognized it with splitter in place! edit: i didn't install any hp monitor drivers / software, just plugged it in vga

I think the driver is they have loads of paper documents taking up space, so they want to scan them to say pdf and store them securely "somewhere" for a long time. Maybe teacher confused like you say probably when kids reach 25, still we don't use sims anymore plus will sims / any current MIS even exist in say 20 years !?

Hi, been asked about this. Basically a few select staff need somewhere secure to store confidential pupil documents (will be kept for 25 years!). Thought of just a folder on a file server with appropriate permissions. But then you have to worry about backups and ransomware etc. So then thought maybe just create a new office 365 or google account and use a shared Onedrive / Googledrive folder How would you do it ?

thanks, never used extended screen before but in this setup I don't think that is even an option?, e.g. in PC display settings only one display is present (the monitor). I.e. PC doesn't seem to know it is connected to a projector as well, maybe because poor quality splitter /projector ? just need a sanity check on this (it's been a long week!) PC resolution at 1920 x 1080 VGA out to svga splitter with two outs one to 22 inch monitor one to projector onto old smartboard 4:3 aspect ratio so normal image on board is 16:9 i.e. black space above and below image I can change projector aspect ratio to 4:3 so image fills the board but then geometry is distorted, e.g. squares no longer square. What other options do I have ? I suppose I could change PC resolution to 4:3 e.g. 1024 x 768 but then you'd get black space left and right on monitor ?! If I put a 16:9 laptop in place of PC I guess I'd still have same issues ?

Picking up some good tips in this thread Perhaps we should start a new one on must have / essential apps ? Two new ones I've found during lockdown: Johnson and Johnson 7m workout app, like it as no need to sign up, free and no adverts, all exercises have video demos BirdNET from cornell lab, record audio of bird song, upload and AI algorithm trys to ID species for you (top tip tried to fool it by whistling but got ID'ed as homo sapien)

Also I think there is some debate/concern esp. for youngsters who've grown up with mobile phones that it may be "rewiring their brains". To be fair though mine could do with a good rewire!

That paper maps thread just made me wonder how many edugeekers don't have a smartphone. I got one very late in the day as didn't see why I would need one but am now a convert ! I think I would really miss it now. Got used to using it for so many things in addition to calls/texts e.g. reading the news, listening to radio/music, taking photos, recording audio, checking weather, emails, maps/navigation. I do have a slight niggle at the back of my mind e.g. I managed for so long without one quite happily but have now come to rely on it, maybe a bit too much. Not sure if that is a good thing ?!

well switched it on (MFA just for my user) installed MS authenticator app on phone and now get notifications on phone to approve office 365 login, so far so good . Think you may need a paid license to use the "Conditional Access policies"

That sound like a good idea, have you considered a career in government maybe working for dominic ? I think it's possible to spoof phone numbers so hang up and call back on a different phone to official number with case ref would work but maybe too complicated for some ?
