Absolutely. Make the policy Restricted so therefore everything is blocked. Then just add the files or locations you want to allow. The SRP will effectively become a whitelist.

We were offline again too. The engineer phoned me to say that he didn't know what had happened to the Lightspeed box but it is now fixed. Guessing that they just rebooted all of their kit to get it working again. They really need to sort this out otherwise we will be forced to seek an alternative. Shame because I really like the service when it is working, which admittedly is the vast majority of the time however that doesn't help the teacher(s) whose lessons have been ruined. Not good at all.

Is Version 9 stable? I've been holding off upgrading from v8 in case it causes any issues. Although, I think now might be the time to upgrade.

We are currently using a paid for solution called OneLan, however I'm switching to a free solution next week. I've came up with a very simple WordPress solution hosted on an internal VM. The client PCs are running Mint OS and automatically launch the WP page in full screen mode. Does everything that we need it to and cost absolutely nothing.

Hello all, I've just been asked to setup a VirtualBox lab in one of our suites. The teacher wants to run Windows XP and Ubuntu within the environment. It is my understanding that the Windows VM will require it's own licence. Is that correct? Thanks in advance!

I tried it a few weeks ago and I was impressed in how easy it was to setup. As you mentioned, there are many limitations which means I won't be using this any time soon. MS also need to improve their documentation on this as there isn't that much of it. Having said that, the tool is the simple/limited, what else could they document. Hopefully they will develop this tool further and not just forget about it.

We are now receiving a "Service Unavailable" message. I'm going to contact Microsoft however it would be great to know if others are having the same problem.

Hello, Is anyone else experiencing issues when trying to open OneNote online documents via Office 365? This has only been an issue for the past three days. When opening a doc the subsections don't load and all you see is a spinning wheel as though it is trying to download the document. It eventually opens but it can take a while. Word, PowerPoint online documents open fine. Our broadband appears to be just as nippy as it used to be so that doesn't appear to be the bottleneck. Any one else noticed this?

Yes they removed it about a year ago. It caused uproar at the time.

I don't think that placeholders are available. Apparently MS are going to bring this feature back. I think it is going to be with the Redstone 2 build due in early 2017. I may be wrong with the timing though as it's hard to keep track of all of this stuff...

According to the tec articles the things listed will be part of the free version.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I've got this working now. My setup was the following: 1. Download Beta version 2.5 of Password Control. This version is required for the funky shortcut setup later in this post. It also seemed to allow the licence file to work from over a share. 2. Install the software to a workstation and licence it. 3. Copy the entire folder to a server and share it out so that staff have read only access. Made the share a hidden share. 4. Created a new security group in AD for the purposes of AD password delegation. 5. Setup password delegation for the parent students OU. The child OUs are divided into Years of Intake. 6. Created a shortcut pointing to the share with the following properties \\server\share$\PasswordControl.exe -root "ou=Students,OU=User_Accounts,dc=network,dc=com" -s "DC.network.com" 7. Edited the PasswordControl.exe.config file on the share so that the Works like a charm now. Thanks again to everyone in this post as well as @dalehopper for one of his previous posts.

Hey guys, Just noticed on the RM support pages a couple of new tec articles referring to a new product called RM Inform. Does any body know what this is? Is anyone using this? I can't see anything on their main pages referring to it. One of the TEC articles refers to the following url http://www.rminform.com Looks like it is an agent that you install on your PCs and they report back to the mothership how often PCs are being used, login times etc.

Thank you. I've tried copying the WiseSoft folder within Program Files from the computer with it installed to another PC. When you run the program it asks you to register it. Is there a way of automating this registration process? - - - Updated - - - It was already registered on the original PC, by the way.

Hello, Is anybody here using Password Control on a Server 2012 R2 network? Is it compatible?

We currently have a calendar user setup in o365. Works fine however it relies on people adding it to their calendar. Instead, I'm thinking about adding a calendar to our Staff SharePoint site. I'll add a workflow to send an email to the All Staff email group when someone adds or changes an entry. That way everyone is notified of changes. It should be simple to configure using SharePoint Designer.

I used to see this a lot in the past, although at my current school we don't use them so I haven't seen it for a while. The controller on the back of the board used to cause this, so I suspect it is probably that. Do you have any spares. Could you swap out the controller to see if the problem follows to the new board? When we weren't able to fix the issue we used to ask the teacher to switch the board off and then back on again. This would clear the fault for a day or so.

Not sure of an easy way of doing this. I would just start by using "Computer Management" on each server to find the shares and then manually check the share permission. Discounting homedrive/profile shares (depending on how it is setup) I wouldn't have thought that there would be a huge number of shares in operation.
