I think this incident has made it abundantly clear just how difficult it is to control a situation like this 5000 meters below the surface. It makes me wonder just how many drilling locations around the world are one step away from disaster.

Obama should be working on changing the attitudes of his citizens towards oil first, this is an important wakeup call for Obama who until just before this had started to issue drilling rights off the USA cost, these disasters have happened all over the world be people care less when it's a third world backwater. Hopefully Americans will think that bit harder next time they're filling up the 8 litre SUV. I'm not laying the blame firmly at their feet most of the west is equally to blame but they top the excess leader board. BP deserves criticism and has said that they will pay for the clean up operation, that won't be happening if Obama talks the company out of business.

Update codecs on network for Media Player / Movie Maker
cookie_monster replied to cookie_monster's topic in Windows
Well I've managed to package the Media Player Codec pack that I posted first I've selected just the AVI codec and it works in media player and movie maker. We'll see how it works out. -
Hi all I'm wondering if anyone is having similar issue as I am with their Ruckus kit especially when using the guest vlan and wpad/pac files. We're using 7942 APs on 8.2.1.0 build 21 of the sortware, on the internal VLAN where the proxy info etc are set by DHCP and DNS all works fine the issues are with student and staff kit in the public VLAN. The guest vlan is set to WPA/AES encryption it is also set to display the AUP then redirect to the required website once the user has accepted it. Windows picks up the proxy information from DHCP 'BUT' it doesn't apply until the browser has been restarted. This means that the user opens their browser types in the URL acccepts the AUP but then it just sits there until they close and reopen the browser, this is a bit of a pain. The next issue is OSX which won't take proxy info from DHCP and we don't have a DNS server in this VLAN as we use the ISP's which we don't control. To get around this I've hosted a .pac file on the smoothwall that they can set manualy. This works ok but they then seem to have the same issue with having to open and close the browser, this presents an issue with rubbish like the i-phone etc where closing and reopening the browser doesn't actually close and reopen the browser it just seems to minimise the app you actually have to select something to close the browser. I don't have one to check at the moment but I've been told this by a few members ot staff and students. This process is confusing allot of users and I causing me a headache. Does anyone else have these problems? Thanks.

Update codecs on network for Media Player / Movie Maker
cookie_monster replied to cookie_monster's topic in Windows
Hmmm I gave K-lite a try and it packaged well and rolles out so that's good, Media Player now plays AVI files but Movie Maker still doesn't. Oh! I guess I'll look into the other options. -
Update codecs on network for Media Player / Movie Maker

If I only select a couple of file types I take it all of the other current codecs will be unaffected? Also I take it this won't affect file associations? Thanks. -
Ouch, I spent £130 on 13 lessons and I think it was £30 for the test. That was 15 years ago but still that's some inflation.

They're already paying for them and unless they want to move away from Windows in the next few years then they really have no choice. More and more hardware and software won't support XP so the OS will need to move at some point Office is a different matter we are still on Office 2003 with few issues BUT if you refresh the OS you might as well do Office especially if they're already paying for the updates. Other than the cost of your time it's a no brainer really. Keep in mind that certain MIS products i'm thinking of one beginning with S don't yet support Office 2010 though I've seen some on here have already tested it.

Congrats. I passed first time but that was back in the days that they handed them out with enough cornflakes tokens I wouldn't fancy it these days it sounds awfully expensive.

Any things to watch out for or tweeks when making the msi? -

Someone has bought a load of i-pod Nano things to make short videos with, they then want to edit the videos in Movie Maker. The problem is that Movie Maker won't open the type of .avi file unless I install a codec pack (like the one in the link below). Has anyone had any luck packaging codecs like this into an msi file or have a better suggestion on how I can overcome this issue with Movie Maker? We want to stick with Movie Maker if possible as it's already installed network wide. Media Player Codec Pack specs and Video Player specifications - CNET Downloads Thanks.

I would get a new drive ASAP and then rebuild the array. If the other drive turns out to be ok you can use it in a less critical system you don't want any suspect drives in your servers.

When you do come back can you not crash your car through reception please

Interesting counselling was something I thought about as well but I decided on paramedic in the end.

I agree if you want to do something you have to make it happen.

Hmm yes I've noticed that it syncs data which could be a pain over wireless. I've also noticed that if you don't untick the correct box at first run it tries to convert files that it finds into an apple format

I've been asked to put i-tunes on some wireless netbooks. I've heard of issues with profiles etc anyone on here using i-tunes sucessfully on a Windows network? Thanks.
-
The best way that I've found so far is to set them in the default profile so that applies to all new users. I also used POWERCFG.EXE to turn on hibernate using a batch file. http://www.windowsitpro.com/article/tips/jsi-tip-8369-powercfg-exe-is-a-command-line-tool-that-allows-an-administrator-to-control-the-power-settings-of-a-windows-xp-sp2-system-.aspx

Interesting there are several threads on here documenting that flaw and I observed it as well. Are you using a whitelist rather than a blacklist so all exes are banned everywhere except where you specify or allowing them everywhere except where you specify they're banned. Thanks.
