Not sure about allowed but it all sounds like too much effort just so some kids can watch a footy match. -

Smoothwall caching of i-player
cookie_monster replied to cookie_monster's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I thought that might be the case but thought I'd ask. I seem to remember reading something about i-player using some sort of P2P tech but not to worry I'll just have to hope the internet connection holds up. -
A load of staff want to show the england game on wednesday using i-player so I was thinking about bandwidth. Will our Smoothwall cache the i-player feed or will we just have 20 seperate streams? or does i-player have some special P2P tech that might help in this situation? Thanks.

Secondary school 1500 pupils with about 500 desktops. We have about 8 physical servers but 2 run VM's, overall we have about 16 (VMs and physical) servers including the Citrix boxes and the Smoothwall. We'll look to move more to VM's going forwards.

We currently use Foxit PDF reader which comes as a small neat msi download, one problem is that there are a couple of small addons like JPEG2000 support that aren't part of the msi download. Has anyone found a way of getting these as part of the msi or am I going to have to create my own package with the extra features? Thanks all.

Another policy that can help here is "Load and unload device drivers" BUT this is not really recommended. Microsoft Corporation

Adobe Flash Player v10.1.53.64 released. This is the final version!
cookie_monster replied to Arthur's topic in Downloads
I just place the new msi on the share then remove the old msi from GPO then add the new one. Next time the PC boots it removes the old and installed the new. I don't 'replace' the msi and redeploy I don't think that will work. -
XenApp + Flash = CPU over use
cookie_monster replied to localzuk's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
It's just a nightmare we have several Citrix VM's that can handle 30 users using word, IE and other apps with no problems until they start using Flash websites and the CPU goes through the roof. Offloading onto the client is an 'ok' idea but doesn't work with our Linux clients and it seems to go against the whole idea of thin low power clients. -
Update codecs on network for Media Player / Movie Maker
cookie_monster replied to cookie_monster's topic in Windows
The link you gave appears to say that most of the codecs are fine, I haven't included the real networks ones. Thanks. -

Oh is that to the redistributale MSI? I thought that might just be to the general installer with toolbars etc. -
well once you have it formatted for Windows you can download the vids without i-tunes but they're mp4 files anyway so you can't open them in movie maker Ahhhggghhhh

Typical it's expired so i had to reapply but it always seems to take over a day. Anyone got the direct link to the msi? Thanks. -
Sigh yes I was wondering the same. Someone came in and said that they wanted to be able to take the nano and a laptop so they can download stuff on the move, they said that i-tunes was required to download from the nano (something that wouldn't surprise me with Apple) but I'm now doubting this so I'm going to find out. If I can avoid installing that software I will.

I'm going to get a nano to play with later, someone bought one in yesterday but I couldn't get anything off it as it's formatted for OSX. Should I be able to Windows format it and then just connect it like a pen drive to get content off of it without the need for i-tunes? Thanks.
