No Clients connecting to WSUS
cookie_monster replied to Tricky_Dicky's topic in Windows Server 2000/2003
Is WSUS on the default website if not you'll need to add a port number to the URL e.g. http://servername:8530 Also do you mean no clients are checking in at all or are there a couple? This can happen when you have ghosted clients without seleting the susid. -
making staff local administrators
cookie_monster replied to RabbieBurns's topic in How do you do....it?
Do you need to run this script with admin rights to change the group membership? Our logon scrips run with the logged on user privilages so couldn't make the change. -
making staff local administrators
cookie_monster replied to RabbieBurns's topic in How do you do....it?
I think as Steve says scripting will be the only option here restricted groups will add users to the local admins group on all PC's that the GPO applies to this is why it's great for removing people from admins How many PC's do you need to modify? You could create a GPO and filter it to a specific group then lock down the desktop to stop the users mapping drives or browsing UNC paths to another PC's C: drive. What is the need for users to have local admin access is it a problem with certain apps? -

Passthrough power cable connectors for HP switch
cookie_monster replied to cookie_monster's topic in Wireless Networks
It's got a few fans I'll let you know how hot it gets -
I received a new HP 3500 switch today and popped it in the rack but had trouble fitting the power lead in, on further inspection I noticed that the power connector has a little lug on that is stopping the power lead connector from fitting non of our other HP switches (2900 and 2600s) have this. I need a passthrough power cable with the grove cut out so I can connect the switch to the APC UPS can anyone tell me what I should be searching for, is there a specific name for this connector I can't seem to find one. To clarify I need a lead like in the link below but with a groove below the middle pin. Steren - 505-370 - 6' Computer Equipment Power Cord Extension from $2.99 - Electronics at Gigaweb.com I have a feeling the answer will be obviouse Thanks. EDIT It's a C15 connector, now to find where to buy one. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEC_connector#C15_and_C16_connectors

Change Xenserver iSCSI storage IP
cookie_monster replied to cookie_monster's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
Ok I better take a look, I'll need to dig out the book if I do need the CLI. Thanks. Edit This looks like a useful link. http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Virtualization/Xen/Q_25078517.html -
Hi all, due to a change to our core network and move to layer 3 I need to change the IP of my Xenserver iSCSI storage. I'm going to turn off all VM's and than change the IP and netmask on my SAN then change it on the Xenserver and then reconnect the storage. Am I likely to run into any issues? Running Xenserver 5.5 with all updates and a Sun 7110 SAN. Thanks.

Just got back off holiday to find this, I felt a bit lost for a few mins but now that I've found the links and my subscribed threads I'm happy. I like the look and it feels quite snappy as well. Well done

Anyone tried this? Limiting a user's concurrent connections in Windows Server 2003, Windows 2000, and Windows NT 4.0
-
Actually it's an active directory issue related to the multi master model. You could limit user logons in User Manager for Domains in the NT4 days. The NT4 client and server were more tightly integrated the change when moving to AD was massive and some features/abilities were lost however there were big gains managing multiple NT4 domain trusts was a PITA.

Hi Guys, i'm just taking a look at Scribus. Did you get the issues ironed out? @ Geoff - does it now play nicely with folder redirection? If not what are the problems that it causes with folder redirection? @ randle - any specific issues when packaging or extras that you need to install? Cheers.

Yes...but then I was thinking Linksys

You could just try installing it will fail telling you that it can't find the HD if there's a problem.
-
Thsi can be a pain I had a similar issue with some netbooks recently. Two options spring to mind 1. USB floppy drive (i've used this before) 2. Nlite nLite - Deployment Tool for the bootable Unattended Windows installation
-
I was hoping you would be on your way with that already i'll be in touch. Cheers.
