This is the 21st century isn't it? I have to keep reminding myself because sometimes it feels like 1999 - the year I started here - you walk around and loads of things are still the same. We have hubs and switches that were here before I started as well. Now I'm depressed. I'm going round the corner to the garage to binge on chocolate.

Come along and have a look - the caretakers are using a Centerprise PC that is nearly 15 years old. We have Dell GX150s in use in classrooms that are around 10 years old, and we have Toshiba S1400-153E laptops in use across the school by various staff members that are nearly ten years old.

Ha, we have lots of machines that are over ten years old still in daily use. Some of them are held together with superglue.

I get all the same when I stumble across sites that feature photographic materials and equipment I was using in the early eighties. Ilford Multigrade anyone?

I've been asked to investigate the use of DropBox in a school environment where staff use it as a means of having access to certain files. We were looking at creating accounts for all our teaching staff, installing the software on their laptops, and running a training session to get them up to speed. I have approached our LA with their take on the possible data protection implications and we are awaiting a response. Is anyone else using DropBox in this way?

We're finding the kids are typing the ip addresses of websites into IE as Websense only has the website name as an entry. PITA.

No, I think the problem is she's just a nasty person and possibly racist as well. Not a nice way to treat young children.

Got to take my hat off to Dan at WStore - the HT / LG here sprung a last minute order on us and we needed to buy 47 PCs asap for our new sixth form. A day after placing the order we had the PCs and we're very happy bunnies now. So it's many thanks to Dan who got things sorted for us even though we mucked him about a bit with the monitors. This is an annoying issue. Glad we picked it up before 1st March! The IP address of worldmathsday.com / worldeducationgames.com that we see is 202.58.100.185. This isn't being blocked and students are able to access the page okay. The problem is when they come to use the sign in box: We know the usernames and passwords are correct but it just sits there with "Contacting Server" in red displaying. Changing to another proxy (but less heavily filtered) works fine. Does anyone know the IP address of the server where the signing in authentication is going? UPDATE: We've contacted WMD Support and are awaiting a response.

Yikes, I've seen similar stunts performed in India. One slip and you're under the wheels though!

I'm not referring to just the public sector, I'm talking about the UK as a whole.

The government missed out on what I call a 'JFK' moment - 'ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country' - they could have called for increased productivity and public support to address the deficit, instead they chose to alienate us all by beating us over the head with cuts and raised taxes. I hope the 26th proves to be a day to remember.
