Recommendations: "VLE" ~ Online Platforms for Edu
SHimmer45 replied to WilliamGates's topic in Cloud Services
we have been a moodle school for a long time ticks the various boxes we need, only downside to all VLE's is that the require decent content and people to keep the content flowing otherwise they can do a bit dormant -
on a x86 client the file which controls the overlay config called nulloverlayconfig.xml is in c:\Program Files\SMART Technologies\Education Software\ id assume the file is the same for x64 clients? perhaps in the program files x86 part if its being fussy about where it installed on a x64 client
-
if its a x64 there is the WoW32 node bit in the registry
-
iirc smartink is sat in software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run\ in the registry (if using x86) there is an XML file which controls what the smart ink overlay is allowed to "overlay" which might be useful its in the smart education folder.

ran patch 23172 >> Database Only Summer 2017 >>Full Release Summer 2017>> Patch 23172>> workstation patch 1 and all appears to be ok i have a note that patch 23191 might need to be run and just seen that Workstation Patch 2 has appeared........ really
-
check the spring release notes im sure it mentions it and there is the technical roadmap which gives an overview of how long platforms are supported
-
last release was the end of 2008 SQL support i think iirc. they have been pushing that people need to update SQL to 2012/2014 for a little while

inflammatory comment commenting based on the published items in the media which are likely not to contain all the background facts is wrong -
would bumping the number of connections/installs to SOLUS help, i did this a few releases ago but it does seem to not handle machines being off and coming on well. this is where i miss the older SOLUS where it would deploy it as the user loaded SIMS which worked better for workstations which are not always on when the update is deploy, and then people need to use SIMS as soon as the machine is on.
-
the last couple of upgrades have listed the database update separately to the main release i thought makes it easier to see what actual DB version you are when it comes to seeing what other patches will apply. The number of patches for SIMS after upgrades does seem to be on the increase.

you can remove the bloat from the install.wim for the education versions so it is not present at the time of install so it doesn't get pre-provisioned
-
also have an RT hardware is great the OS less so shame they didnt do discounts on the X86 version at the time
-
powershell and a CSV i did it for the 1st time a couple of years ago and despite a few early mistakes it works well. Technet have some decent examples to get you going (i cant program at all really an i manage )

well if i can source a suitable part it doesn't take long to replace them. our budget is under increasing pressure and things like speaker systems we could do without having to replace as the money can be used else where.
-
Hi all, we have alot of the above speaker systems installed in school, some of them are getting on and the speaker in the satellites are starting to fail. i have had one apart to see if its possible to replace the speaker driver (which it is) but i am having trouble sourcing a suitable part. from what i can gather its a 2" full range speaker with a measure resistance of 6.7Ohms and the power handling of the system as a whole 40W (80W max) Farnell and CPC dont seem to sell speakers of that size with that kind of power handling but then they dont specify if its RMS Watts. as usual just seeing if we can save money as new active speakers are 50-60 a set. cheers

if you dont want to pay for a product to deploy updates and you dont have or want to use wsus, then WSUS offline updater is an alternative which could be used and scripted to run on machines.
-
did you created your profile using the sysprep Audit mode? the unattend will only copy from the local Administrator account & not from anything else
-
the username and password for accessing the MDT share can be anything which has access to the share - if you are automating the connection to the deployment share remove that bit and attempt to do it manually (its the 1st part of the wizard when it boots MDT) check to make sure you can ping the IP and hostname of the MDT server just in case there is anything funny going on
-
another +1 for MDT Standalone

looks like .net 3.5 needs IIS installed as it part of the package
-
hmmm id be tempted to flatten it and then install .net before doing windows updates, if there is something iffy about the install you dont want that coming back when its your email server.
-
2008r2 its installed/removed from the Roles&Features wizard
-
screen shot of error ?
-
if its server 2012 onwards you need to specify an installation source (little button or box at the bottom of the wizard screen) for .net 3.5 if you point it at the winsxs folder on your installation source it will complete.

SMART Ink / Notebook 11.4 - Office 365 display issue
SHimmer45 replied to Cache's topic in Educational Software
should work from version 1.0 onwards? i did notice that iexplore is in the include list so ive taken that out and put an exclusion for it just in case there were cancelling each other out. see how it goes over the next few days.
