Icals is the way to go build the script with your chosen permissions and off you go. If your using folder redirection its a little different to setup

As per the title, how many people on here for data backup (not for virtual machine backups) buy in storage or make their own? interested in what people use . In the process of upgrading our fontline storage so need to match this with backup space, used Buffalo Terrastations previous but the performance is pretty poor (storage server and SW Raid) but they hit a reasonable price point for what is dormant/very low access type data.
-
you could run a script from a computer to copy data from one to the other (connect to each nas as a mapped drive) Xcopy / Richcopy/robocopy have the ability to only copy changed files which handy for limiting the amount of data you are actually copying.

+1 for using local storage. the live migration feature is nice as well, Veam also do a free edition of their backup software (i installed it the other day) which provides a nice interface but is from what i can see just backup up the VHD (which hyper-v can do anyway)

[sims] Everyone ready for the move to SQL 2012/2014?
SHimmer45 replied to localzuk's topic in MIS Systems
so they are migrating to 2014 as well, i think i mentioned in an earlier comment that we are being migrated to 2012 in jan (i was told it was 2012 all this talk of 2014 is making me twitch lol) shouldnt they be sticking to 1 version to make things easier for themselves and their clients -
if you create the folder and ask it to inherit permissions from above can the SEN staff access it? if they can add the group to the folder perms with FC and remove inherit from parent does this kill off the access? +1 on using the older method to set share and access permissions imo MS dropped the ball in adding extra mouse clicks to setting permission

KMS Quick reminder about adding new keys
SHimmer45 replied to round2it's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
You need a KMS key for a KMS host to respond to activation requests. depending on your licensing you should have both KMS and MAK keys but it depends what licensing model/agreement you are using. you can use the mak key to activate clients if you added it to them. -
would anyone recommend something like a QNAP NAS over a Dell box for file storage or actually gone down this route

we have meru here (a MC3000 and an iirc ap310's) we brought a few of the newer 320AP's and you need to set the mode on the newer points to the same as the old ones otherwise they fight each other and you dont get anything from the old point.

if there is any real downsides i doubt you are going to notice

[sims] CAPITA pull Autumn 2014 Release - Why???!!!
SHimmer45 replied to tech_guy's topic in MIS Systems
applied this a release at the beginning of the week havent had an reported issues yet do i need to be concerned about the scheduled tasks as we are still running solus 2 -
you should be able to convert the vhd to vhdx and from fixed to dynamic by clicking edit button just under the disk path in the VM's properties. it will export out the existing hard disk into a new one and iirc keep them both, it can be quite a long process.

many people recommend building images on a virtual guest as you have very minimal hardware drivers installed (i used virtual box). MDT does take a little more set up. if its failing on the capture before it even begins the transfer its going to be because a step is failing (an iffy line in an unattendfile for example) your fix of effectively closing the image would make me look at the how WDS is creating and closing the image is there something wrong there. kind of like using ghost to clone machines but not getting it to mark the partition active
-
handnt but seeing that its a very good price (less than a fuser!)
-
no i dont think it does however im sure the print has had one fitted to it. im sure the problem is because the fuser isnt quite getting hot enough on the outer edges, their not cheap so its a risk on a hunch. school is looking to move to more centralized solutions so getting funding for a new printer might be tricky.. only other printers i have found which last well are the kyocera FS1700/1750 / 1800/1900/1920's newer ones are to be blunt dog sh*t

Hyper V - Server core-completely stuck without a clue!
SHimmer45 replied to Snookered's topic in Windows Server 2012
ok assuming that the networking is ok on the machine you need to modify you can connect to the registry remotely using regedit assuming the service is started on the remote server. iirc regedit does work on core, but you can make the change on any pc that can connect to the server with the problem. (from your message when you attempt to RDP to the server guest not the hyper-v host it just kicks you out) -

if its a reg setting on the core server, you could start the remoteregistry service and then connect to it and modify the entry using regedit from a pc with a GUI -
think the time has come to replace our venerable HP 4250dtn which after 230K pages is starting to "ghost" toner down the sides of the page despite fitting a maintenance kit. i don't think they still make these so what is the equivalent model and is it any good

SHimmer45 replied to abillybob's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
have you added IE 10/11 to an image as i know there was a bug when capturing MDT images if they were installed without modding the answer file to remove a specifc IE 9 setting -

SHimmer45 replied to abillybob's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
are you using WDS to boot into a MDT environment or actually using WDS? do the log files reveal anything, sounds like a step is erroring and dropping the whole process -
this is what i was very badly trying to get at
-
i mean the IP your are connecting to manage the switch as a whole, which by default isnt part of any vlan.
-
+1 on using MDT, just use WDS to deliver the boot image for MDT. if you install MDT using SQL as the back end you can add/transfer all your WMI targeting as well
