Alright chaps As well as being played before the game and during half time at old trafford on sunday (man utd vs chelsea, ha ha!) me band is on xfm tonight around 11 p.m. after which you can vote for us to be played again on thursday. if you're bored around this time, tune in and vote for us! ta Nick
  2. I'm having a similar problem. Adding any image file as a OLE object in a field in an Access db, brings up a message about being unable to find the OLE server. Apparently Office 2003 uninstalls microsoft photo editors, which is what Access used to use as the OLE server. has anyone else had this problem and got round it. The dib thing above doesn't work for me. I'm thinking it's permission based, because as admin it works fine. Presumable there's an Office .dll lurking somewhere that the application needs to see, but can't? Any ideas?
  3. Hi there We have a cc3 network, some of our user's top level work folders are listed in blue colour as opposed to the usual black. Any ideas what this is about?! Nick
  4. I bought some from RM's online shop for about a quid each...it was over a year ago though
  5. Quickly becoming the bane of my hopefully short and futile existence..the minibooks we have seem to have really quirky behavioural issues when using WPA-PSK. Has anyone seen an issue whereby an 8 character key is fine, as is 9 up to 11...as soon as you have a 12 character key, it just stops working and can't get a DCHP lease...Done all the updates etc... Nightmare for parents who are trying to get connected at home without tons of experience or knowledge on WPA. It took me an hour to get it going at home....and I have pieces of paper to prove my intelligence..... Nick
  6. Thanks guys, I found that italian instruction one...works a treat...just gonna try FN-GM's one as it's a little bit shorter (and easier to remember!!)
  7. Howdy, Who knows how to get to terminal session or prompt before the minibook loads up into the log in screen with Xandros. I've got 100+ kids with minibooks who are changing the password and then forgetting them...how can I reset password without wiping the minibook and starting again...using terminal i can sudo passwd user Ta
  8. We've bought some Brother HL-2150Ns lasers (about £100) and printing from the minibooks with the default Xandros distro on couldn't be easier. No driver files/disks needed..went through the wizard and it picked it up.
  9. youtube downloader is a nice free piece of software to download the flv then convert to avi...you can choose not to include the original audio in the new file...after which you could stick it in windows movie makers, or iMovie (it is good) and re record the dub. then export as avi
  10. Evenin' all... Having a bit of a problem with setting up new forums in a course. I can create the forum and post to it using one account. Then I log in as another and click on the forum link and get the following Must specify a course module or a forum ID Wierd thing is, you reload the page a couple of times and then it works..until the next time... Any ideas, is it a permission thing? Ta Nick
  11. I'm using the cornflower theme, just developing a test site to see if it will look and do what we're thinking of. going to site files, opening the picture and copying the url was what i needed to do. . http://localhost:8888/moodle20/file.php/1/filename.jpg anyone else who might get stuck, this is what the url should vaguely resemble...
  12. I may be being excessively thick here but I just can't add an image to the middle column on the front page. I load up the html editor and click the picture icon, and the settings box appears but if I try to click the browse button, I get nothing. I've also uploaded the image to System/Front Page/ Course files but I don't know how to code that into html. any ideas? Ta
  13. sorry i dont' follow can you explain what i need to put where .... (be nice now!!)
  14. mmm don't seem to have rc-update...where could i get it from?
  15. done it...kinda... added debian sources to sources.list installed build essential then followed this http://www.fukt.bth.se/~per/identd/README only problem is it doesn't run the identd on startup. you need to issue the command $ /usr/sbin/identd -d as sudo bash before it will work any ideas on how to automate this? Nick
  16. got build essential inc make and gcc. ran the ./configure, make and make install seems to have done stuff but not sure what. how to i install the .deb file?
  17. We're using IdentD as part of our filtering/security setup on laptops and workstations...just turned it on to find the minibooks' internet is now screwed...downloaded a linux package for identd, but Xandros doesn't seem to have the Make command that the install needs.. anyone got any ideas how to get round this...i mean anything...but maybe not involving a hammer or a blow torch... Nick
  18. Yeah, I'm not that bothered about them being bricked, because it's a five minute job to restore the original image.. just concerned about the administrator level access and the rooting thing. I can't remember enough linux stuff from uni to be able to convince myself they can't mash our servers... ..i had one year 8 kid asking me about A records in DNS yesterday...scared the life out of me...
  19. No responses..is that because no one else is using them? I'm facing management of 140 of them in a few weeks..
  20. Yep, so this is the solution RM send me and it works a treat..learn something new everyday! Thanks y'all
  21. It's Promethean ActivStudio. How do you do it, build a package and allocate?
  22. We've got a bunch of new whiteboards in classrooms, I've installed the software and drivers on the local machine, rather than making a package on the network, as we have always done. But to see the software, the teacher has to be a priviledged user, hasn't been a problem in the past because it used to be one teacher per classroom (therefore machine)...but now we have one classroom for one class, so there will be at least 5 or 6 teachers needing it in any one classroom... I'm concerned about the ability for the teachers to access the C, drop stuff onto the desktop etc... I may be being thick as two short planks...are there other ways of giving standard users access to locally installed software, without compromising the workstation.. Ta
  23. So we're investigating using these for first year student, with no shares or printers mapped, just using the wireless networks for web access, and the basic install of Linux out of the box, but I'm concerned about the easy access to Terminal etc..has anyone found a way of locking them down, to avoid this issue, or how have people set them up on their network (XP install, cc3 build)...whats the best route to take... Nick
  24. Hi chaps, Good to be back..... :-( This morning, I walked in to find hdd0 of a raid 5 array on the frdc has gone...doh. My bigger problem is that I don't know the serial of the server and RM are saying they can't progress the call until they get the serial. There's no sticker on the server anywhere..They pointed me to a folder on the cc3 server called rminst which contained no useful info, i found a folder called $rmints$ which did contain a serial number but they reckon THAT machine doesn't have a raid...arghh.. Long question short, any other way of getting the serial number of an RM CC3 server...
  25. Does June fix it? Nick
