Just today we're getting Attendance crashing every time you try to print a registration certificate or print off the registers. Has anyone seen this, not done the June update yet but wasn't aware of the May one breaking this! Nick

Mmmm the workstation eventually goes in,...but it's unfeasibly slow, i hadn't been patient enough! (login >10 minutes!) This surely isn't right, but the workstation and the pc running as the sims server are both fairly spec'd. The NICs are running at 100Mbps, plenty of ram, paging file space... the only thing i've noticed is that their peer to peer network is utilising a hub not a switch. could this be the cause of the slowness. mapping a drive and access shares is fast enough...just sims is a complete dog like i've never seen before. Morning all, The entries for SIMS32 in the ODBC Data Source Administrator applet (under System DSN)...who or what puts these things here. I have a mashed up install of sims and noticed that these entries are missing on this one workstation, or is this to do with FMS rather than SIMS. Get to the log in screen in sims, log in, and then it sticks on the splash screen, pulsar.exe isn't doing anything on the cpu....any thoughts? Re-runs of simsinst have proved fruitless. It's on a older computer but you wouldn't expect it to take more than ten minutes to load into sims.net? would you?!! Plus task manager says it's not responding...

How would I change the open gl setting in sketchup, not google earth? Just running memtest now! Nick

Thanks for the Automatic restart tip. I've finally managed to recreate the problem (after using teacher accounts, sysadmin account, administrator account..I couldn't get the thing to crash for me!!). I get the BSOD and the usual text... The stop code is 0x0000008E (0xc0000005, 0XBF8010FD, 0XF7997A48, 0X00000000) Later in the message after the safe mode stuff it says win32k.sys - Address BF8010FD, base at BF800000 DateStamp 41107F7A Ta Nick P.S. Graphics driver is up to date. Tried flashing the bios but the utility says the bios isn't for that motherboard..I definitely definitely downloaded the one for the mx46-533v. Double triple checked...

For those that use a SketchUp MSI did you manage to get around the "Update to the latest version or incapacitate Sketchup" issue?

Morning all, Lovely weather. We've got a few older RM blue trim boxes here with the AOpen mx46-533v mobo's inside and 256 RAM. They seems to work fine and dandy until someone runs Sketchup. This causes a serious problem and restarts the machine without warning...Could this be to do with the OpenGl requirement, graphics card or processor panic? Any ideas. We have some other newer machines which seem fine. Nick

forgive my ignorance...why would virtualising one server onto one physical server be better than having just a real server. i suppose i'm asking of the benefits of virtualisation really aren't I!

Good idea? Bad idea? I've been asked to investigate the possibility of 4 virtual thin client servers on one physical server (which i suspect has to be a very beefy spec) N

yep tried both automatic dns pickup and also manually entered the servers ip for dns...the DC does DNS

Chaps Got a XP SP2 laptop trying to add it to our admin network. Have an IP, can access interweb etc..but when I try to add it to the domain I get a message saying that the DC can't be reached. I can ping it by IP but not by name..I've dropped the firewall on the laptop, flushed the dns, pinged the laptop from the server by ip, re-install tcp/ip stuff in Add/Remove Windows components? What else is there to do? Ta Nick

Hi guys. Bit of advice please. We've recently started video conferencing with a school in Chicago via Skype. The first time we tried it it was really good. Smooth audio and video from our end (the Chicago school didn't have a webcam at that time). Did the same today this time with a webcam in Chicago..and found serious dips performance, dropping calls and audio/video here and there... Now i do realise the route I've chosen is a free one(!) and there are compromises to be made...and the poor performance could be down to a million things (whether it's raining, if it's a Tuesday, if I've got my blue shirt on.... but if any of you have any advice for improving performance or indeed a better way of doing it (and relatively cheap...one where I don't need a dedicated ISDN line etc..) then I would be most grateful.. Hi all, I've recently been experiencing some monkeying around with keyboards by pupils. One keyboard's keys had entirely been repositioned..I was actually quite impressed with their efforts....just wondering if anyone has any strategies to deal with this. Can't think of anything to prevent it other than glueing the keys down..and I've definitely got better things to do than that..
