I was just about to say mapped drives causes this. I once mapped all staff users to a NAS and it caused a hang, black screen with white cursor for about 5 - 10mins. As soon as I took it off, it was lightening quick again. Check your mapped drives are correct and the location of the mapped drive is adequately spec'd

Hi Guys, I want to make everyone's home drive available offline for use on laptops, how do I do this through group policy? I have been to COMPUTER CONFIG > ADMIN TEMPLATES > NETWORK > OFFLINE FILES but not sure what to put in the Value field? The drive I want to sync is M: Also, our staff having roaming profiles and are reporting when they go home, the desktop icons are greyed out. Is there a way of making the desktop available offline too? We have been doing it manually for staff so far but its too time consuming. Regards

All sorted. Had to delete the 'copy files' registry entry for every printer, then it started working as expected. The reason for this was our new Windows 7 build is 64bit and the old was XP 32bit and registry keys still pointing to 32 bit drivers. Many thanks

Still having terrible problems with this, it won't even let administrators add / remove printers. I have started adding printers via GPO to get us by, however a lot of them say 'Driver Update Needed' when allocating out via policy.

I once mapped a NAS to all teachers through group policy and i warn you now it causes all kind of issues. We had 20min + blank screens at logon because so many people were trying to connect to the mapped drive. I recommend a NAS mapped drive its not pushed out via GPO or script to a large amount of users. Can you map the drive manually on the Windows 7 workstation?

Problem solved, just realised the server had changed IP address! Set it to what it was before statically and now working. Many thanks for your help

Dear all, WDS was working fine, however i tried to build a PC today and i got the error PXE-32: TFTP Open Timeout I have tried 4 PC's in 4 locations and all have the same issue. I had a look on the net and found a reg edit fix (change udpport policy to 0) , however i still have the same problem. Any ideas?

Will this let me remove old entires from say the headteachers outlook without having to install on his machine?

Dear all, I'm having a nightmare with users sending email to old groups that have been removed from the exchange address because outlook autocomplete is storing them on their profile in the To... field. For example, they type 'a' and it brings up all staff, they click it and try to send the email but it bounces back because it no longer exists or has changed name. From my understanding you can either remove autocomplete feature or you have to get users to remove it from their own account by highlighting the email address and hitting the delete button. Is there a way of removing the entries which are incorrect without having to ask the end user to do it?

You seem to have them as a user Configuration AND Computer Configuration? This could be why mines not working, i've only set it on User Configuration but i can't find Point and Print Restrictions in COMPUTER > POLICIES > ADMIN TEMPLATES > PRINTERS I am no longer getting the first pop-up logged on as a standard user, but im still getting this one

Anyone? This is causing a bit of a nightmare at the moment. Users are getting the pop-up above and can't install printers as they are not an administrator or this error when trying to add / remove printers. It worked perfectly in my last school on Server 2008 when point and print policies were available.

Neither of these seem to be working on a lot of accounts. It applied to some but not others. I have a few more to change soon. Is there a logon script i can use to force the mapped drives onto the users too just incase as i have had to change quite a few manually and save back to their roaming profile.

Dear all, We have two Exchange servers running Exchange 2007. One of them is no longer picking up new users added to active directory so we unable to setup new mailboxes on this server. On the second server, you can see the new users and give them a mailbox, however outlook refuses to add the account and says the name cannot be found on the exchange server that has the problem. Any ideas? Screenshots of each error below: Some existing users are getting similar pop-ups, others are fine!

Dear all, We have put in a new SIMs server and I now need to change the mapped drive to change to the new share path. I have changed this in group policy, however its not updating the drive in question. USER CONFIGURATION > PREFERENCES > WINDOWS SETTINGS > DRIVE MAPS I have tried create, update and replace and none seem to be applying to the users roaming profile. If you logon as the user and disconnect the old drive and remap using the same drive letter to the new path it works fine and stays on the users account. Any ideas how I can force an update on this drive path through group policy? I tried making a new GPO with mapped drives but that's having no effect either unless you give the user a new roaming profile.

Yep its fairly easy. First create a blank GPO and name it relevantly eg [Printer] - Printer name. Next, link it to the relevant OU. Then go to your print server and load up the printer console. Right click on the printer, deploy with group policy, point to the blank GPO you created in your domain, select per machine, refresh and you should be good to go!

I recommend rolling back to IE9 too as everything works fine in IE9. We have Server 2012 on our DC and IE10 settings still don't work.

I tried EVERYTHING to get proxy settings and other settings working with IE10 and nothing worked. I tried GPO's, scripts and reg keys and none of them worked. In the end, I remade our Windows 7 images with IE9 and now it works perfectly. Atleast now it will buy me some time to look into it before trying the upgrade again. It caused havoc as no-one could get onto the internet!

Yep I hate outlook cache mode as it takes ages for people to appear in the GAL and groups. Its already disabled through GPO in the way described above. I have the templates installed already, I just need to know what setting to change to configure the mailboxes automatically.

Is the issue resolved when the user does not have a roaming profile or a fresh roaming profile? I've come across this a few times and for us it was either the roaming profile was too big or a mapped drive was trying to connect and causing a hang on startup. We mapped a drive to a NAS for teachers which was causing this. As soon as I migrated data onto the network storage and reconfigured the drive, the problem was resolved. With printers I find the best way of deploying printers is through group policy rather than logon / startup scripts.

We just use PC Model - Asset Tag and in the description in AD specify its location. It helps a great deal when completing an inventory! for example: PC Name: HP7800-01232 Description: Library PC

Good Evening all, I am thinking of removing roaming profiles for students now we have upgraded to Windows 7 as everything is done though group policy for student accounts. The only problem we have is when the user does not have a roaming profile, outlook 2010 needs to be setup each time. Is there a way of bypassing the setup or automatically applying the required settings through a script or GPO? Currently, the student has to click 'Next' three times and finish in the configuration wizard before they can access their email each time they logon but all settings are already populated automatically Many thanks

We want to avoid staff having to bring their laptop down to us to install drivers and programs so adding them to the local admin accounts might be the only way for those who request it and we will do the same as mentioned above. I have tried group policies to allow staff to install drivers but so far without success. Does anyone know the GPO required to allow driver installation when logged on as a standard user?
