Looks quiet a nice job, shame they re-used such large computers (and XP). Did you suggest positioning the towers behind the monitors or even hanging them in adjustable straps under the desks? Where I used to work we designed rooms so that towers were hung under desks to create extra space, ensure an open feel and it also means the students cannot hide between each tower as they can do in that layout shown, also monitor brackets would lift screens up above the workspace creating more room for books / resources. Ensure its cache files don't go to the profile path of the user if its a roaming or mandatory user put them to a folder per project on the user's drives this ensures they don't go missing or if your roaming they become huge profiles.

Yes I would its the only way I will run it I don't have a pair of 24" touch screens on my desk and my laptop doesn't have a touch screen either, the interface is perfect for touch screens ala Windows Phone, Windows Surface and then I setup a colleagues new Dell Laptop with a touch screen and it was great on that but until everything is touch we need a no-touch way The start menu exists for a reason as the pants search is still pants (just less big dirty manky ones!) and the "start menu" aka click the button to bring the start screen back up still is naff. I'm more productive with a start menu and will be glad when it returns in full in the next iteration of Windows. 8.1 as a base OS, start menu issue aside, its fine and seems good my Laptop runs nicely on it and haven't had too many issues so very happy with that and it does perform better than 7 did on it so just give us the start menu back and the world will be happy, even Apple didn't decide to do such crazy things

I personally would suggest that you should have a physical vCentre server as by your info you have the 1 SAN and 1 vMware cluster so if the SAN throws a wobbler you cannot get your vMware database with the VM details so your in a bit of a vicious circle that vCentre won't fire due to SAN and you cannot poke vCentre to fix it as the san is not working etc... (see the pattern here). Once you have this physical you can then have the P4500 software on that, thus you can take the storage down and still work on things, I would also say running them in a cluster with differing software isn't that good either so you should look at sorting this out. The software is a free tool you can get by filing in a form, stick it on a PC / Laptop, and stick that on the network so it can access them and away you go to patch them and then look at the future planning. Before people go but vMware say a virtual vCentre appliance is fine and even give you one from the website, @Ric_ can tell you the joys of running a Virtual vCentre on the same storage and systems as the actual main systems, its supported by VMware but its really not a good idea and makes life a lot more messy when things go wrong than you need it to be if its a physical box.

and if you want to make it truely Win 7-esq with a start menu install classic shell - Classic Shell - Start menu and other Windows enhancements which fixes all the irritation of not having a start menu and apps hiding away etc...

Agree with the do it phase, I've done a couple of houses, cat6 into a SOHO rack in the garage or loft or under-stairs, got the BT master socket to that location as well so its all in one handy spot and do everything over the cat6. Had 4 by the main TV in the front room (HDMI extenders are usually over a pair of cables) and then 2 elsewhere in that room and then doubles in the bedrooms is the usual spot. Kitchen was a bit different we put 2 behind the bracket for the TV so we could do HDMI to it from a Bluray elsewhere to keep the kitchen clutter free and then one above the kitchen cupboards for a WiFi AP if required as the kitchen was the center of the house.
