Free Chromebook Video Editing
TurnItOffAndOn replied to TurnItOffAndOn's topic in How do you do....it?
Thank you David We use this in one of our secondary schools. It is really good, but it is the cost that is prohibitive. We want to use it in primary schools for one small project that only lasts for a few weeks. -
Evening all A long time now post! We have recently moved from iPads to Chromebooks and Chrome tablets as an organisation. A lot of our schools used iMovie on iPads to create videos. I am looking for something we could install on Chrome devices, either web-based or Android apps. Does anyone have any suggestions? Like all schools, it would be nice if it was as free as possible. Many thanks Ant

Google Workspace - Documenting your Setup
TurnItOffAndOn replied to TurnItOffAndOn's topic in Cloud Services
I want to document everything so if I have to migrate another school in the organisation, it would make it easier and quicker to complete. -
Morning all We have recently migrated to Google Workspace for email, etc.. To help in the future I want to document all the various settings that have been applied. Has anyone found an easy way to do? Many thanks Ant

Afternoon all With it being Christmas, I am hoping for a miracle ! Over the last 4-6 weeks, we have been experiencing issues sending emails to Google and Google hosted accounts. It was working one day and then the next not! We host our own Exchange 2010 server and have done for many years. When we send an email to Google we get the following bounce-back; mx.google.com rejected your message to the following e-mail addresses: 'Anthony Short ([email protected])' ([email protected]) mx.google.com gave this error: [82.16.27.51 12] Our system has detected that this message is likely unsolicited mail. I have done loads of testing with MX Toolbox and I get positive results back. I have registered and been verified by Google's own Postmaster service. I am on no spam lists at the moment. I have checked all out going traffic and all SMTP is coming from our exchange server. I have also followed the Google Bulk Sender best practise stuff too. We have an SPF record but we do not use DKIM or DMARC polices. First has anyone else experienced any of these issues with Google recently? Obviously, if you have and have managed to solve the problem or if anyone else knows of anything please could you point me in the right direction? Many thanks Ant

Windows 7 Clients losing GPO delivered Wi-Fi Details
TurnItOffAndOn replied to TurnItOffAndOn's topic in Wireless Networks
We are using the meru controller with Microsoft nps for authentication -
Right I am having an issue with Windows 7 laptops that keep losing\forgetting their Wi-Fi details. We use GPO to deliver our Wi-Fi details using Computer Configuration\Policies\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Wireless Network (802.11) Policies. We also have a certificate delivered by GPO to so we can use that for authenticating clients. We use NPS on Windows 2008 R2 and Meru Wi-Fi and controller. So this happens totally at random with any of the 150+ laptops we have on site. A laptop is unable to find the login server. A pupil will bring the laptop to us. The only way we have to remedy this is to connect the laptop to the network using a CAT5e cable. You login as administrator and then run GPupdate /force. Reboot the laptop and disconnect from the wired network. The laptop will then work no problems. You could say doing this is not a great hardship but it is now almost becoming a daily occurrence with multiple laptops. Has anyone else experience this problem? If so, did you find away around this? Many thanks Ant

We are in the same boat too! Going to cost £24k to upgrade to the new notes! Don't get new budget until September. Then everyone will wanting it and we will be left waiting in the queue. I found out when I wanted to purchase a new bio reader in October. Having to look at the prospect of other systems even though nrs is really good.

Onsite Prerecorded Video Server Options?
TurnItOffAndOn replied to jmair's topic in How do you do....it?
+1 for estream from me. I have also used clickview too! The main reason we changed was because estream seemed to give more value for money. You also don't need to install a client on a pc to run it. I know the cloud version may have changed this. We purchased estream outright with freeview. The signage is great especially integration of your content into signage. Sales and support are very good and Andrew, sales director is very passionate about the product and always like to hear ideas of how to improve the product. -
Frustrating intermittent temporary profiles issue
TurnItOffAndOn replied to ryanplym's topic in Windows 7
Are any of you suffering with blue screens on startup and shutdown? We seem to be and then it wipes out the reg fix we do and they un-activates the PC from KMS. We have now used two different builds now and get the same issues. I am starting to believe it is either a driver issue or a hardware issue. -
Frustrating intermittent temporary profiles issue
TurnItOffAndOn replied to ryanplym's topic in Windows 7
I think we may have a solution for this problem. We have visual studio installed on these PC's. We have found an article on the internet that talks about visual studio seems to give the registry the impression that it is full. So we made the following change to the registry and it now seems to be fixed. The key we added was; [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control] Added a dword; RegistrySizeLimit = 41ffffff Re-boot the PC and no more temporary profiles. I hope this helps Ant -

Right I have removed Sophos and it is now playing ball. All gpo stuff is applying and no more temporary profiles. Must log a call with Sophos. -

I have started to get this problem today too. I am also getting resource errors whilst doing gpo deployment. I wondered if it was a windows update or Sophos causing the issue. I am currently re-imaging pc's to see if that helps. I have also moved pc's out of groups in AD to see if this stop it but to no luck. -
[sims] Sharing Assessment Manager data with parents and students
TurnItOffAndOn replied to Schoolcomms's topic in MIS Systems
Looking good! This kind of data would be our reports so being able to call it what we want may be a good idea as I am sure other schools call it different things. I could live with assessment. I think your idea of being able to map aspects to common assessment and target grades would be handy. Our assessment team change names of aspects from one year to the next. We are using online reporting and I love the way you are always wanting to improve the product. Ant -
Lightspeed Client Issues
TurnItOffAndOn replied to TurnItOffAndOn's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Hooray! I thought I was going mad and the only person suffering from this! Had a deeper look into this yesterday afternoon. We think it might be related to the network card. We have found away of replicating the error by removing the network cable. We mainly have all Dell's. Most of our OptiPlex's have Intel Gig cards whilst our laptops have Broadcom Ethernet cards. If you remove the cable and plug it back in for the Broadcom's, the issue with the client does not occur. If it is an Intel card, the issue with the client occurs. We are trying new drivers today and also looking at Anti-virus as well as I have heard about one or two issues with Sophos. -
Afternoon all. I was wondering if anyone else has suffered with the Lightspeed user client that you install on all your PC's. As you are aware this program gathers all your AD details and places them into a Registry key (HKLM\Software\Lightspeed Systems\User Agent\Current User) to then present to the Lightspeed server. So on boot up and initial login, these details are correctly filled in and web filtering works perfectly. If you leave the PC for a while (an hour of so) some of the details, Computer DN, Computer OU, User DN, User Group DNs and User OU seem to disappear. The only remedy is a reboot or to use remote access to services and restart it. We are only implementing this on staff at the moment. I have reinstalled the client and I still get the issue. I have also told the service to restart if the service should fail. We logged a call with support but they did not really help that much, because a reboot or reinstall of client seemed to solve it. I just wanted to see if my fellow colleagues on Edugeek had any suggests, apart from bin it or burn it!
