  1. Specops software do\did a free bit of software that allows you to use a spreadsheet/csv file and map columns to AD fields and import users on mass.
  2. Why not just use WordPad or Write. It has no spell checker or proofing tools to worry about. We use very basic cheap laptops which are locked down with just windows on it. We don't attach it to the network. This keeps it simple and reliable.
  3. We had Clickview for 3 years. I was not happy with the price rise either. I was given a small discount for giving a 5 year commitment. I got a quote for Planet estream. It worked out £20 cheaper so I went for that. We have now had it just over a month and I have to say it is fantastic. No client, just a web browser. Works on all web browsers on all devices. You can upload content straight from an idevice or android device. It streams rather then downloads a chapter. No buffering just instant playback. If you get the freeview module like we did, you can record every freeview channel and not only 8 like you can with 24/7 or 16 with 24/7 cloud. Eventually ClickView came back with a very good price, but is was too late, planet estream was ordered. We have not looked back, planet estream in my opinion is the best value for money video on-demand product a school can buy. It does video on-demand so brilliantly but has so many other strings to it's bow.
  4. In the Dell BIOS you need to turn off low power in the power management settings for wol to work. We also had issues with our HP switches as they would not allow the packet to go over vlans. We tried some of the other settings in AB but they seemed to not work.
  5. From what I have seen, apple have more apps in the App Store and developers seem to develop for that but the LearnPads do allow you to install content from the google play store and you can allow these apps on the LearnPads. I think the issue is more with a lack of volume purchasing from google, unless I have missed this ability.
  6. I can only talk about meru, but we had 49 ap's and a controller installed last July. We have the best and most reliable wireless we have ever had. With our old netgear setup, it would take 30 laptops with 2x2 cards in them 15-20 minutes to login. Those same laptops with no changes except the ssid now take 2 minutes. We find it just works. It is all down to setup of the system. We had SwitchShop in to implement our setup. We had various ssid's setup for different purposes. I would say it is down to setup, get this right and you should have no issues.
  7. We have just purchased a LearnPad for testing purposes for a project. Works well with our meru wireless network. Students find it nice and quick. Really easy for us to administer plus the mdm has some really handy features like the qr code setup and the ability to hand work in from the tablet to the web interface wirelessly. We also have 40 iPads too. These are such a pain to administer and supervise as you really need a mac if you want to lock them down in to supervised mode. They also take time to transfer content from the iPads. Though iOS 7 has made it easier to connect them to any computer to transfer content.
  8. We had a similar issue across the whole site. It turned out to be something to do with the WMI and NLA service. There is a folder in C:\Windows\System32\wbem\Repository. If this gets above 180mb, it slows down your PC. On startup/login the PC/server has to verify the contents in this folder. We did think it was either our build on the PC's or our group polices causing the problem. I do have links, but I am unable to post them as I have not posted enough yet! http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/itprovistanetworking/thread/f3beb19c-b83d-422e-ba53-12eb4df81179 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2617858
  9. Now before you laugh, please read.... We currently have 2 students in school that have problems using wireless. We have Dell laptops. These connect to the either HP ProCurve 420 or Netgear ProSafe AP's. We have tried most things! We have created new login accounts for them and logged a laptop in as administrator for them and they both have the same problem. They either can't get logged in. If they do, they have no policy applied. And then failing that the wireless will just drop after 10-15 minutes. We have tried this mainly in a class full of pupils, but we have tried it in isolation. If they us a PC they seem to be fine. We have even connected the laptops to the network with a cable and this works most of the time as well. We are almost putting it down to the pupil giving off electro-magnetic radiation! Firstly, has anyone experienced this issue before? We feel like we are the only ones. And secondly, if you have experienced this, have you found anything to get around this issue, apart from just use PC's?
