  1. Hi folks, So my Iomega NAS is filling up very quickyl and its now got the point where i can only manage a weeks worth of backups of student and staff data. I have been told i can build my own server for backing upto for studnet and staff data only. So i want a case that has lots of 3.5" bays so i can put in as many 1TB drives as i can in a RAID 5 system running under FreeNAS. Any ideas? Cheers
  2. im not sure, canon something or other. We have used the same camera for other videos and its been fine.
  3. cheers for the reply guys, found the article on interlacing interesting, will have a proper read tonight. Im using adobe premiere elements 3 and im currently exporting it again at 50fps to see if that makes a difference.
  4. most office documents store the last saved by name in the properties tab. I think the program your thinking of was called Antiword(dos based) or something and from what i remember focused on word documents only. I just tested the windows version of antiword and gave me no useful information so maybe this is worth a look http://www.metadatarisk.org/download/download_report_overview.htm
  5. Hi all, Im having trouble with some video, never had a problem before but this one is annoying me. We did a diary of our year 7 rugby team playing at wembley on the grand final day. The ripped video is 10gb and plays no problem on the computer. When we have edited it and converted it to DVD and burn it the picture blurs when the camera moves. I have tried encoding the video to mpg and watching it on the screen and it still blurs but the uncompressed video doesnt. I've not done anything different to previous videos so im stumped. http://img367.imageshack.us/img367/1316/videorm1.jpg

    COD 5 [PC]

I got it and absolutly love it, prefer it over COD4.....but then again i dont see whats so wrong with COD3. To me COD3 and 5 have more action packed levels than COD4 did.. colourgolden on xfire
  9. Hi all, We're going to be testing some software called Accipio Learning. Something to do with kids who dont like school get to use virtual classrooms at home and in school should they ever come in. A requirment of the software was to not have Office documents open in the Internet Browser window. I couldnt find anything in group policy to change this setting so i made my own ADM file for it. Its a machine policy so should work for all users. I have called the policy EduGeek options so its easy to find and easily expandable for other options, that cannot be managed out of the box. I have tested it on 3 users so far and seems to work. Remember to gpupdate for it to work. You will have to rename the attached txt file to ADM and then add it to your group policy template, im sure you all know how to do that. Let me know how it works for you if you find it useful. Mike eduGeek.txt
  10. Is it MSI deployable?
  11. yes we are using IE7, seems daft that we cant control backgrounds unless we downgrade to IE6.
  12. Hi all, We have setup desktop backgrounds via group policy all working but recently (well the last 6 months or so) we have been getting the message "Internet Explorer cannot find the Active Desktop HTML file. This file is needed for your Active Desktop. To turn off active desktop press OK" I have seen some google posts regarding an IE dll is corrupt but i dont think this will be the issue. Mike
  13. So does the username still appear in the web proxy logs?
  14. Hi all, If anyone uses ISA Server 2004 at their place can you tell me if 800+ connections all day every day is normal? Recently, well the last 5-6 months the internet has gradually slowed down to less than dial up speeds but speeds up when everyone goes home. Im sure its down to the amount of connections the firewall has. Any tips on limiting the amount of usage clients can have? We have policies in place that only allow HTTP and HTTPS for pupils but in the weekly reports it shows 99.8% of requests are from SecureNAT clients. We have no Secure NAT clients setup as far as i know. Is there a way to see which IP addreses these NAT clients are? Cheers Mike
  15. I dont think we have a AUP from our LEA.
  16. Hello all, How does eveyone deal with Mobile dongles? do you let staff use them? We have a few staff members at school who use them as they are more reliable than our LEA provided internet. My concern is they are totally unfiltered so can be used for porn, facebook, myspace etc. More often than not they are not used in class (as far as i know) but its possible a pupil could get on a laptop with it on. Mike
  17. Yes i guess so, but we are not an academy for another year, and then not in our new building until about 2011 (which wont happen due to the land they want to build on being flooded.....twice since the 2007 floods) Update: Came in this morning and the server is no longer failed, green across the board. Wonder how long it will hold out?
  18. Hi all, Thanks for all the replies, it gives me something to think about. BSF did talk about it being a problem if the hardware fails at this point, i replied "been ok so far :D" Sods law it had to happen! I did take the drive out and put it back in and it started rebuilding but im not hopeful it will sort it out. the BIOS (at boot) did report the drive a degraded, not failed? I think i will approach this as worst case scenario and restrcuture the server. Put in a IDE drive for a system drive and use new scsi disks for the RAID. At the moment its got 3 73gb drives with 2 partitions, 1 syste,m and t'other data, not ideal Cheers guys...any other ideas and opinions greatly appreciated. Mike
  19. Evening all, So it was bound to happen, i have a 4 year old server with a Ultra 320-1 RAID card in. 1 of the drives failed tonight, its been years since i've done anything with RAID. Question, does the replacment drive have to be the same make/model? same speed and roughly the same size? I assume if its larger it will just use what the other drives are (70gb) Sorry to sound daft, like i said its been years..... Cheers Mike
  20. Its awesome!
  21. Create a new markseet with the aspects that you use to enter the target grades (could be named anything if you didnt use the default ones, i never!) Then if your targets dont change just select "latest Result" and then create sheets for the whole year group and export. Sorry if that makes no sense, i wrote it quickly as im leaving early.....
  22. We have had a few things happen at our place. One morning myself and Mark (my then technician) came in early to carry on getting the servers up (crashed the night before) so we was it at school opening about 6am. Caretaker was the only one in and we walked into the new building. We have those doors that lock open, walked through one set of doors and just before we got to the doors to the library we heard the door unclick and a girls voice shout "Mark" we both span round and saw the door closin, but no girl. Caretakers have seen doors banging when they where patrolling with police when the alarms have been set off. Me and the caretaker have also heard one of the toilets flushing late at night while locking up. It is a scary school!
